This paper presents a RGB-D aided inertial navigation system that uses RGB-D sensor and low cost inertial measurementsensors (IMU) to provide state estimates for micro aerial vehicles (MAV) in GPS-denied indoor environments. The state estimation approach is based on the invariant observer theory which is developed for systems possessing symmetries. In our system, we review the invariant observer theory and design the invariant observer (Invariant Extended Kalman Filter, IEKF) based on the analysis of system symmetry for the RGB-D aided inertial navigation model evolving on a Lie group. In addition, a robust RGB-D based motion estimation approach is developed to provide relative pose estimates using feature correspondences captured by the RGB-D sensor. The RGB-D estimates are fused with inertial measurements through the IEKF-based observer which yields a simplified error dynamics and simplilies the calculation of gain matrices. The resulting framework is implemented and validated on a MAV, and experimental results from actual indoor flight tests demonstrate the effectiveness of the approach.

Wireless sensornetworks (WSN) based on unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) are ideal platforms for monitoring dynamics over larger service area. On the other hand, aerial sensornetworks (ASNs) are often required to be connected with a command center for sending data and receiving control messages in real time. In this paper, we study the problem of path planning for ASNs with connectivity constraints. The primary goal of path planning is driving UAVs to locations where the most informative measurements can be collected. Meanwhile, the worst link's capacity is assured to be greater than a pre-defined requirement. We proposed a solution for the path planning problem and it consists of two modules: network coordinator (NC) and motion controller (MC). The NC manages the topology of relay-assisted wireless communication networks. For the design of MC, we compare two motion strategies: maximum entropy and maximum mutual information. The simulation results show that our proposed solution achieves accurate signal reconstruction while maintaining the connectivity. We conclude that it's important to enable UAV-to-UAV communications for future ASN-based applications.

A methodology for generating optimal sensor location design for wireless sensornetwork (WSN) is presented. Location of sensors, cost of measurement and frequency of sampling are important factors that have been incorporated in the sensornetwork design formulation. The proposed methodology is based on the beacon-less location discovery scheme between the quality of state estimation and the total measurement cost associated with the sensornetwork. To accommodate different sampling frequencies and evaluate their effect on state estimation accuracy, a unique method is used. In general, higher accuracies of the state estimates are realizable at expense of higher measurement cost. Incorporation of these conflicting objectives of minimizing measurement cost and maximizing estimation accuracy results in a combinatorial optimization problem. The resulting solutions can be then analyzed by the process designer for determining an appropriate WSN.

There is large change in the utilization of wireless sensornetwork over the last few years. A Wireless sensornetwork essentially consists of a group of nodes deployed for monitoring the system via means of measurement of its parameters. WSN mostly consist of two terms i.e. wireless network and sensors. Wireless sensor is a significant technology designed for large-scale monitoring, providing sensormeasurement at high temporal and spatial resolution. The primary aim for the wireless sensornetwork are accuracy, reliability, flexibility, cost effectiveness, and no difficulty of deployment. This paper presents general idea of a variety of routing protocol which are particularly designed for sensornetwork. We have studied three routing protocols and have compared these according to different parameters.
