As a key component of point cloud acquisition technology, LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) acts as an eye in autonomous driving. The vehicle-mounted LiDAR point cloud system is the prerequisite foundation for the vehicle to be able to perform environmental perception, path planning, navigation, and other behaviors. In practical applications, LiDAR point clouds have a wide distribution range and a large amount of data, which poses major challenges to existing transmission and storage technologies. Aiming at the point cloud from automotive LiDAR in autonomous driving, we propose a point cloud lossy compression framework based on range image index and classified sparse sampling. This paper takes the original data packet as the compression target and converts it into a 2D range image and a 3D point cloud based on its data characteristics. On this basis, we can segment 3D point clouds into ground point and non-ground point cloud by applying progressive morphological filters. Then, we perform de-redundant sparse processing at different intensities on the two. A sparse 2D range image is generated by referring to the range image index of the downsampling 3D point cloud and is represented as a more compact form of one-dimensional range vector combined with its corresponding occupancy image and Morton sorting. Finally, the image coding method is used to further compress the point cloud. Experimental results show that our proposed method is better than the existing algorithms, thereby effectively reducing the spatial redundancy of the point cloud and achieving higher reconstruction quality. © 2021 IEEE.

To keep pace with the exploding data volume raised from geographical distribution edge networks, more and more edge servers have been built in recent years. As the computing power and storage capacity are different on each server, requests have to be transferred from one server to another before finally being responded and returned back to users. Such server-to-server transmission naturally introduce non negligible latency, which inevitably affects the quality of service (QoS). To eliminate this transmission latency, Internet Service Providers (ISPs) are building or renting more edge servers (both computing servers and storage servers) to reduce transmission distance and enhance the server configuration, which brings great costs. Fortunately, through a large number of real trace analysis, we found that it is possible to reduce server number while keeping the QoS! In this paper, we first disclose three key characteristics from Kuaishou Company: (1) Unbalanced request frequencies on dif-ferent servers;(2) Imprecise latency measure on server-to-server transmission;(3) Nonlinear latency reduction to server number increment. Based on these findings, we propose a frequency-aware edge storage server deployment strategy Frend that is an improved Genetic Algorithm to optimize the number of edge storage servers by the internal diffusion capability that is a new latency measure called S2SL. Through a series of experiments using real application data, we demonstrate that while achieving the same S2SL, Frend can reduce the number of required edge storage servers by up to 56% compared with the state-of-the-art Anveshak method. © 2021 IEEE.

A deterministic model of COVID-19 transmission is established by using a differential equation system, which integrates the protective adaptive behavior of human population and the protective effect of vaccine. Based on the data of reported cases and vaccinations from February 1, 2020 to July 16, 2022, parameter fitting is performed by MCMC method to estimate the intervention effect and transmission trend. The results indicate that (1) this epidemic may level off around October 2021 if without any intervention, but in big cost of disease burden, leading to 5.46 billion cases (about 10 times of current infections);(2) 210 million people may be free of infection due to vaccination, which is 37% of the current number of infections;and (3) according to the current situation of intervention measures, the cumulative number of cases in the world would slowly increase and tend to be flat by 2024. The epidemic will be completely ended in February 2026, and the cumulative number of cases will reach 870 million. The findings show that protective behavior, vaccination and its protection rate are still the key factors to determine the global epidemic trend. © 2023 SPIE.

In the realm of vehicular edge computing (VEC), where tasks generated by vehicles can choose local processing or be offloaded to nearby edge servers. However a prevalent issue arises due to the inherent spatiotemporal correlation observed among these tasks, this correlation results in similar tasks producing identical output results, leading to a significant amount of redundant computation. Consequently, this redundancy not only increases the workload on edge servers but also prolongs task completion time. Therefore, we design the Dynamic Programming Scheduling algorithm based on Computation-Reuse (DPS-CR), which adopts a computational reuse model that relies on vehicle road data fusion, while solving the offloading problem of vehicle generation tasks with bandwidth resource requirements under the common coverage range of multiple base stations (BSs). We simulated the situation of vehicles passing through the intersection in the uncongested scenario and the congested scenario. The experimental results show that, compared with baselines, the DPS-CR can significantly reduce system cost (SC) by effectively utilizing the resources offered by BSs. Moreover, our proposed DPS-CR can minimize the probability of task loss in vehicular environments. © 2023 IEEE.

To identify mask wearing quickly and automatically in public places is particularly important for epidemic prevention and control. In this paper, we present a real-Time mask wearing detection algorithm based on improved YOLOv5s, which speeds up the reasoning speed by 510% and achieves a detection accuracy of more than 96%. The proposed algorithm can be easily deployed in Raspberry PI. We also design a Web-based mask wearing detection system consisting of two parts: The cloud subsystem and the edge subsystem. The cloud part mainly realizes data storage, model training, equipment monitoring, big data visualization and other functions. The edge part uses Raspberry Pie as the core deployment equipment to complete data collection, model reasoning, information early warning and other functions. Our system features the advantages of high real-Time, low cost and low network traffic. It can be widely deployed in the supermarket, parks, intelligent light poles and other open scenes, resulting in greater practical application value. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper proposes an approach based on numerical simulation to enhance the accuracy and generality of fringe field modeling in Quadrupole Mass Filter (QMF) systems. The proposed method involves SIMION simulation calculations to achieve the desired outcomes. A numerical model of the potential distribution is constructed using the finite numerical difference method in the region where the QMF and end plate are connected. The exponential fringe field function is selected as the basis for approximation, and the fringe field function is obtained through the least squares method. The potential gradient curves for different end plate gaps are derived, revealing the impact of gaps on the fringe field intensity, length, and penetration into the QMF. The proposed method is validated by comparing the obtained fringe field analysis model with literature data The research establishes the reliability and validity of the proposed method for effectively analyzing the fringe fields between the end plate and the QMF electrode in QMF systems. This makes it possible to study the properties of such systems by phase-space dynamics methods. © 2023 SPIE.

Vienna ab initio Simulation Package(VASP) is software for performing electronic structure calculations and quantum mechanical molecular dynamics simulations, and is widely used in materials simulation and computational material science research. Currently VASP is accelerated on NVIDIA GPUs via the OpenACC programming model, which cannot be directly compiled and used by domestic GPU like accelerator platform. We use the HIP programming model to port VASP to GPU like accelerator. Refer to the OpenACC port of VASP, we use the HIP API for device and data management, write kernel to implement cyclic accelerated computation, and use mathematical libraries such as hipBLAS and hipFFT to support the computation. After the porting was completed we compare the computed results of the HIP port version of VASP with the CPU version and the OpenACC version. We passed the validation of the correctness of the HIP ported version. We also analyze the principle of All-to-All parallel communication and propose optimization strategies such as aggregated communication and merged copy for the case of multiple bands communication, which are implemented on the HIP port version. We choose the ***105 testcase to test the All-to-All before and after optimization. The results demonstrate a 25.57% performance improvement after optimization. © 2023 SPIE.

This article is based on the logistics drone to deliver path planning problems in the urban environment. Combined with the flying characteristics of drones and the distribution location, considering the conditions such as the customer's collection and delivery needs, the logistics drone's delivery path planning model is established[4]. Secondly, the model is processed. For the first time, the NSGA-II algorithm is used to solve the order of the distribution path of the logistics drone, and the second will be solved by improving the traditional algorithm. In the drone execution task, if the weight coefficient of the target functions is adjusted, different transportation sequences and paths can be obtained, and different planning results can be obtained by adjusting the attention of customer satisfaction. The analysis of the algorithm is available. Compared with the traditional A*algorithm, the algorithm transportation path adopted in this article is shorter and the delivery is faster. © 2023 SPIE.

Melanoma is a dangerous skin cancer that may spread if not detected early. Thus, the medical industry has evolved with automated diagnostic tools that may assist physicians and even regular people diagnose an illness. Here, we provide a combined method for identifying melanomas on the skin. For our proposed approach, we make use of three forecasts. This problem was solved by training a neural network and two-learning machine classifiers on data describing the borders, textures, and colours of skin lesions. These tactics are combined for maximum effectiveness by majority voting. Tests show that using all three methods simultaneously improves precision. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.
