The rapidly emerging internet of Things supports many diverse applications including environmental monitoring. Air quality, both indoors and outdoors, proved to be a significant comfort and health factor for people. This paper proposes a smart context-aware system for indoor air quality monitoring and prediction called DisCPAQ. The system uses data streams from air quality measurement sensors to provide real-time personalised air quality service to users through a mobile app. The proposed system is agnostic to sensor infrastructure. The paper proposes a context model based on Context Spaces Theory, presents the architecture of the system and identifies challenges in developing large scale IoT applications. DisCPAQ implementation, evaluation and lessons learned are all discussed in the paper. © 2017, Springer international Publishing AG.

Cloud computing technology present days fulfills the infrastructural needs of small and medium enterprises without creating additional load of initial setup cost. Industrial infrastructural needs like storage, computing has became like utilities that uses cloud. Features like availability, scalability, pay per use makes cloud as a dependable choice for enterprises. The growth of cloud computing depends on vital technologies like distributed computing, parallel processing, internet, virtualization technologies, etc. Virtualization enables resources utilization in efficient way. It offers multi-tenancy which is sharing same physical space by many virtual machines. Co-residency of virtual machine on the other side brings more security bumps. As co-residents share common channels like memory bus, storage controllers, cache these channels can become sources of data leakage for malicious VMs. Malicious attacker VMs use covert channel for accessing sensible data from target VM. This paper presents a novel model Encryption First Split Next (EFSN) model for covert channel protection. This model targets about two key issues like isolating conflict of interest files from attacker using split share model. Other is applying encryption for making attacker difficult even if he gains the data from covert channels. This suggested model gave positive reliable results. This can be a choice for lazy or immature cloud users to rely on for their data storage security needs from co-tenant covert channel protection.

In the Medical Information Systems (MIS), the patient out-sources his e-health records, a dramatically huge amount of health data, to a third party like cloud service provider. The internet providing host-to-host communication using TCP/IP network topology has not satisfied the growing demands of data processing in MIS. Based on the content-to-consumer paradigm, content-centric networking architecture was proposed for simple easy-to-manage caching features to users. In this paper, we proposed a privacy-preserving e-health records scheme that protects name and content simultaneously. Our proposal has multi-authority without a trusted single or central authority to distribute secret keys, which avoids the key escrow problem and meets the distributed features of MIS. As we know, this scheme is the first multi-authority content-based encryption (MA-CBE). Furthermore, this MA-CBE resists up to (N-1) corrupted authorities collusion attack, and the security is proven to be semantically secure based on the standard decisional bilinear Diffie-Hellman assumption. Our comparison analysis reports that the proposal gives a better performance than other related schemes.

Virtual network management is a basic component provided by cloud computing system. In cloud environment, the fact that VMs in the same subnet are located in different hosts, the traffic of VMs attached to different users should be isolated, the VM would be migrated to other hosts makes network management different from that in physical network. technology like overlay and SDN is usually introduced to establish a reliable and efficient virtual network management scheme. However, there are many drawbacks such as flexibility and hardware costs in most schemes introducing technology above-mentioned. We addressing these problems by designing a scheme on the hyper-visor layer of physical hosts based on overlay and SDN technology, which means the tradition virtual network can be easily transformed to our system without purchasing new devices supported OpenFlow or VXLAN(a kind of technology in overlay) protocol. Besides additional functions like monitor and traffic mirror can be customized by users' needs for the system's flexibility and scalability the SDN technology endowing. We also design a distributed Virtual Router(DVR) on each host to solve the general problem of traffic between internet and Intranet concentrating in most schemes. The experimental evaluation shows that our system has achieve the basic intercommunication under the situation of tenant isolation and its performance of communication between internet and Intranet acts obviously better than that in OpenStack scheme for our DVR design.

Cloud computing as a new and popular IT-based technology is a large-scale distributed computing paradigm. Cloud computing is driven by economies of scale, in which a pool of abstracted, virtualized, dynamically scalable, managed computing power, storage, platforms, and services are delivered on demand to external customers over the internet. Replica selection requires information about the capabilities and performance characteristics of a storage system. It is based on the user demand and failure occurs during response time. In data cloud, the selection of replica is an important issue for users and to access a data file. Our research is mainly focused on replica selection mechanism in order to achieve the best performance. This research proposes new replica selection base on ant colony optimization to improve average access time. We use Java to evaluate the approach. The obtained result showed better performance of the proposed algorithm.

In the current scenario, distributed computing systems play significant role for accessing the various kinds of internet services. The different handheld devices like palmtop, laptop, mobile, etc. can be connected across the distributed network. People enjoy social networking websites, online purchasing websites, and online transaction websites in the daily routine life. On the other hand, hackers are regularly watching the activities of the people who are categorized as the authorized users connected across the globe. The present work is related to propose a model which is based upon the object-oriented technology for occurring of cyber crime across the distributed network. A well known Unified Modeling Language is used and one can easily write the code for implementation of model in any object-oriented programming language. After that a UML model is proposed for filing the FIR online against the cyber crime. The activities in the above procedure are represented by the UML activity diagram which is finally validated through the concept of finite state machine.

Large-scale internet applications provide service to end users with servers, which may be located at geographically distributed data centers. Users may require different delay constraints for different services. To meet the service delay requirements to end users, the data centers must provide enough server resources which incur a large amount of electricity and dollars cost. In this paper, we tackle the problem of minimizing electricity cost under diverse delay requirements of different services for different users in a multi-electricity-market environment. We propose two algorithms to reduce the electricity cost, taking into account the location diversity and the time diversity of electricity price. Our simulation results demonstrated that the proposed algorithms were effective in terms of the reduction of the electricity cost while satisfying the diverse delay constraints.

The process of extraction of interesting patterns or knowledge from the bulk of data refers to the data mining technique. “It is the process of discovering meaningful, new correlation patterns and trends through non-trivial extraction of implicit, previously unknown information from large amount of data stored in repositories using pattern recognition as well as statistical and mathematical techniques”. Due to the wide deployment of internet and information technology, storage and processing of data technologies, the ever-growing privacy concern has been a major issue in data mining for information sharing. This gave rise to a new path in research, known as Privacy Preserving Data Mining (PPDM). The literature paper discusses various privacy preserving data mining algorithms and provide a wide analyses for the representative techniques for privacy preserving data mining along with their merits and demerits. The paper describes an overview of some of the well-known PPDM algorithms. Most of the algorithms are usually a modification of a well-known data-mining algorithm along with some privacy preserving techniques. This paper also focuses on the problems and directions for the future research here. The paper finally discusses the comparative analysis of some well-known privacy preservation techniques that are used. This paper is intended to be a summary and an overview of PPDM.
