Nowadays, blogs are regarded as standard text-based communication tools on the internet. In contrast to traditional web pages, the blog has several significant features: it allows authoring via a web browser, and offers automatic backlink requesting, called trackback. The latter provides direct communication between blog servers. In this paper, we propose a distributed computation method based on trackback communication and present the implementation of a software verification system based on distributed computing. The software verification system consists of ordinary blog systems which are used as frontend interfaces, and verification blog bots which are used as backend inference engines. One of the prominent features is that one can limit the danger of intrusion into vulnerable verifier programs to the private networks where the verification blog bots are operated. © 2012 Springer-Verlag.

Cloud computing utilizes arbitrary mega-scale computing infrastructures and is currently revolutionizing the ICT landscape by allowing remote access to computing power and data over the internet. Besides the huge economical impact Cloud technology exhibits a high potential to be a cornerstone of a new generation of sustainable and energy-efficient ICT. The challenging issue thereby is the energy-efficient utilization of physical machines (PMs) and the resource-efficient management of virtual machines (VMs) while attaining promised non-functional qualities of service expressed by means of Service Level Agreements (SLAs). Currently, there exist solutions for PM power management, VM migrations, and dynamic reconfiguration of VMs. However, most of the existing approaches consider each of them alone, and only use rudimentary concepts for migration costs or disrespect the nature of the highly volatile workloads. In this paper we present an integrated approach for VM migration and reconfiguration, and PM power management. Thereby, we incorporate an autonomic management loop, where proactive actions are suggested for all three areas in a hierarchically structured way. We evaluate our approach with both, synthetic workload data and real-word monitoring data of a Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) application used for the protein folding in the bioinformatics area. The efficacy of our approach is evaluated by considering classical algorithms like First Fit, Monte Carlo and Vector Packing, adapted for energy-efficient reallocation. The results show energy savings up to 61.6% while keeping acceptably low SLA violation rates.

Advances in virtual server internetworking and the internet have been accompanied by increased incidences of computer related crimes for such domains. At the same time, the number of sources of potential evidence in any particular cloud computing forensic investigation has grown considerably, as evidence of the occurrence of relevant events can potentially be drawn not only from multiple computers, networks, and electronic systems but also from disparate personal, organizational, and governmental contexts. Potentially, this leads to significant improvements in forensic outcomes but is accompanied by an increase in complexity and scale of the event information, particularly since such information is treated as composite events. In order for digital investigators to effectively administer the virtual machine(VM) environments they need to have automated methods for correlating and synchronizing such event data as a critical concern. The contribution of the paper is the provision of a University case study of our ongoing work that integrates an automated detection of a computer forensic scenario for virtual network server clouds. This is work based upon facts derived from digital events synchronized within the VM environment. We use our preliminary case evaluations to present the formal parameterized context for which such VM log events are likely to occur based on the event condition action (ECA) paradigm adopted from work done in [16][19]. © 2012 ICST Institute for Computer Science, Social Informatics and Telecommunications Engineering.

Network bandwidth and hardware technology are developing rapidly, resulting in the vigorous development of the internet. A new concept, cloud computing, uses low-power hosts to achieve high usability. The cloud computing refers to a class of systems and applications that employ distributed resources to perform a function in a decentralized manner. Cloud computing is to utilize the computing resources (service nodes) on the network to facilitate the execution of complicated tasks that require large-scale computation. Thus, the selecting nodes for executing a task in the cloud computing must be considered. However, in this study, a three-phases scheduling in a hierarchical cloud computing network is advanced. The proposed scheduling can utilize better executing efficiency and maintain the load balancing of system. © 2011 IEEE.

In recent years, the market of mobile device keeps growing dramatically. Apple iPhone and Google Android are the two representatives of this kind of devices. However, the mobile applications of these platforms can only be executed on some specific platforms;these applications are not portable to other platforms. Another kind of application is Web-based widget, such as Yahoo! Mobile Widget. This kind of application can be executed on different mobile platforms if there are local runtime environments installed on them. However, Yahoo has to provide a different runtime environment for each different mobile platform;if there is any platform which is not supported by Yahoo, Yahoo! Mobile Widget cannot be executed. Most of the Web applications can be executed on mobile devices because more and more Web-related standards are supported by mobile Web browsers. However, the drawback of Web application is that it cannot be executed without internet connection. In this paper, we propose a Web-based widget execution runtime environment and adopt the Google Gears technology for offline execution. In this way, mobile users can enjoy Web applications via their mobile Web browsers even if their phones are under offline mode. © 2011 IEEE.

Mining of repeated patterns from HTML documents is the key step towards Web-based data mining and knowledge extraction. Many web crawling applications need efficient repeated patterns mining techniques to generate their wrapper automatically. Existing approaches such as tree matching and string matching can detect repeated patterns with high precision, but their performance is still a challenge for practical web crawling applications. In this paper, we propose an efficient approach for mining repeated patterns based on indent shape of HTML document. Indent shape is a novel and simple model of HTML document, in which tandem repeated waves have strong association with the repeated patterns to be detected. By scanning an indent shape with a horizontal indent-line from bottom to top, the tandem repeated waves are identified by filtering the wave segments with low self-similarities. After that the boundary of HTML code corresponding to repeated patterns can be identified, which could be transformed to regular expressions formal-defined easily. Extensive experiments on two practical data sets retrieved from internet show that our approach achieves high efficiency significantly, and its precision performance is also generally better than the existing approaches. © 2011 IEEE.

Currently, there is a growing interest in developing methods, systems and tools for managing disasters in a computational and integrated manner. This is due to the development of several next generation emerging technologies, which seem to be more fit for purpose. Various emerged distributed and computational paradigms include collective intelligence, internet of things, social networking, contextaware, sensors and collaborative technologies such as grids, clouds and crowds;these are just few to name here. In our previous works, we have discussed and demonstrated the potential of these technologies for disaster management in a manner, which seems to be more synergetic towards an integrated and more informed decision-making. In this paper, the aim is two-fold: firstly, to demonstrate quantitative evidence supporting the increasing occurrence of disasters in terms of costs during the preparedness and recovery disaster stages. Secondly, there is current stagnation in resource matters, that is to say, it would be of particular importance to develop a more focused and resource balanced disaster management approach. Due to the data complexity and volume, our survey is predominantly focused on evidence from disasters occurred in 27 European countries. © 2011 IEEE.
