Data security has become a major issue in recent years. It becomes a requirement to store the sensitive data with at least two backup systems in geographically distributed data centers in order to provide the security. In addition, there is a huge need for the computational power to analyze the big data generated through various high-throughput multiomics applications such as next-generation sequencing and mass spectrometry platforms. In this study, a geographically distributed asynchronous replication application and architecture, called LUNGBASE, based on the OpenStack Swift has been introduced. This study enables to replicate the data generated through the LUNGMARK project, a lung cancer molecular profiling study through bioinformatics-supported integrative multiomics analysis, carried out at the Molecular Oncology Laboratory of the TUBITAK-Marmara Research Center(MRC), Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology Institute(GEBI), in different geographical regions. In this paper, we proposed an architecture and application model that can perform an effective file transfer operations and smart and automated data movement on distributed environment.

Finding location in wireless sensor network (WSN) is a basic and crucial issue because sensed data without location information is useless. Mainly localization algorithms can be categorized into two classes: range-free and range-based. Range-free algorithms are more cost-effective than range based schemes;an additional ranging hardware is needed in range based algorithms. In this paper, we present a distributed range free localization algorithm: Varying Anchor Range Half Normal (VARHN) for WSN, in that connectivity, varying anchor ranges and method of half normal are used for providing a low estimated error than other range free algorithms. In VARHN algorithm, anchor nodes transmit beacon signals in the whole network at different range levels, which make multiple rings and circles of transmission ranges of anchors. The principle of half normal is used for estimating the position of unknown nodes. VARHN is also energy efficient because it doesn't need information exchange between nodes. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm has more accuracy than Centroid, Weighted Centroid Localization (WCL) and Convex Position Estimation (CPE) localization algorithms.

The web newspapers provide valuable information for readers. From all available information often we require some important & summarized information. However, each newspaper pages contain a lot of unrelated information. In order to improve the quality of news-pages, we developed an application which extracts single news from web pages. The information available on the web pages is semi-structured text document and is represented either by HTMI. or XML. format. In text document, representation of text depends on size and purpose of document. We propose another technique for web extraction in view of the qualities of structure of Web page. The tree is represented in the form of DOM (Document Object Model). While breaking down the page, DOM tree is constructed by parsing the webpage. For selecting text content from newspaper four patterns have been implemented. By using parsing technique selected news is converted into DOM tree.

Due to the rapid data growth of video monitoring, how to efficiently storing and querying massive surveillance videos is challenging, such as performance of querying, and fault tolerance for storage. The emerging cloud computing and big data techniques shed lights to intelligent processing for large-scale video data. This paper proposes a HBase based approach for surveillance video processing, storage, and querying. We adopt a distributed storage architecture, cut videos to many small ones and stored them in HDFS, extract video data through Hadoop preprocessing. In our approach, a number o strategies are used, e.g. pre-building regions, multi-thread and row-key optimization, to write data into HBase cluster in parallel. Evaluations show that our method has good performance.

In this paper, we propose mathematical models for predictive assessment of response times of road traffic video surveillance systems. Their performances depend highly on the ability to perceive mobiles within a certain radius of networked sensors, then distinguish their potential trajectory for further decision making. Most QoS measurements and evaluations used within actual literature are hardware based, and do not consider the influence of the technical architecture. We therefore proposed a process based decomposition of video surveillance systems to obtain functions approximating each ones time consumption. The integration of these components guided us to generic mathematical models validated through experimentations. The comparison between them shows a considerably lower response time for a distributed architecture over a centralized.

The virtual machine placement problem can be described as designing optimal placement scheme for virtual machine in cloud environment. Cloud data centers are facing increasingly virtual machine placement problems, such as high energy consumption, imbalanced utilization of multidimensional resource, and high resource wastage rate. In this paper, typical exact and heuristic algorithms as solution to the virtual machine placement problem in the cloud are surveyed in terms of energy consumption and resource wastage. The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the performance of both the exact and approximate algorithms developed by using the WebCloudSim sytem.
