Raw sensed data lacks semantics. This poses a challenge to apply analytics directly to raw IoT sensor data. Such operational data requires an intensive enrichment processes to drive value. Pragmatic use of naming conventions and taxonomies can increase the quality of data and make it more interpretable. In this paper, we incorporate semantic and linked data technologies and offer a middleware called Gatica, to dynamically inject semantics to make the raw streaming data of an IoT gateway "Rich" on the device layer. Gatica collects the real-time sensor data, enriches them using annotations then transforms and exposes them in rdF triples, and finally streams rdF objects to the analytic endpoint for querying the linked sensor streaming data. Various analytic applications can utilize our middleware by sending SPARQL requests over the sensor network to our query interface and retrieving the results. Our middleware offers the ability to discover hidden patterns of mutually correlated variables and uncover actionable information within raw data for more utility. This paper details Gatica's architecture together with its implementation.

Development and improvement of intercloud environments is still in an early stage;correspondingly, analyzing adequate realization of many types of applications is essential. In the presented contribution we have chosen an application with a high potential for value generation through cloud and cloud of clouds, i.e. the real estate business. The reason for this accumulated benefit that clouds may generate is threefold: (i) the objects in real estate business have high values, (ii) some phases during their life cycle cover very long time periods, and (iii) many different actors are involved along the value chain, many of them are SME's. We give a to-the-point insight into the real estate sector (life cycle, value, chain, actors) and demonstrate possible effects through clouds for selected stakeholders. We further give a brief overview of cloud-based products in the field of real estate for a well-defined market (i.e. DACH-countries) in order to demonstrate the current situation.

In order to minimize the power losses and improve the voltage profile of the distribution network, introduction of production decentralized, also called decentralized generators or distributed generators (DG), in distribution network plays an important role. The optimal placement and sizing of DG is necessary for profound DG potential. To solve this combinatorial problem, a radial basis function neural network based optimization technique is proposed in this paper. Training and Learning of the Neural Network (NN) has profuse importance while dealing with the real problems, however, the computation time associated with the progression put a question mark on the effectiveness of the approach. RBFNN with conventional learning algorithms does not achieve the desired speed and performance in the training process. To overcome this difficulty a heuristic technique Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) is employed for efficient learning of the RBFNN. Network tested on IEEE-69bus system is used to evaluate the effectiveness of this method. The convergence of RBFNN-PSO is compared with Conventional RBFNN. (C) 2015 The Authors. Wireless networks can be classified in two types: infrastructured wireless networks and infrastructureless (ad hoc) wireless networks. Ad hoc networks are characterized by the need for efficient routing protocols. According to previous research, the Destination-Sequenced Distance-Vector (DSDV) routing protocol and the Ad Hoc On-Demand Distance Vector (AODV) routing protocol are two good representatives for each routing protocol category, Table-Driven category and On Demand category respectively. This paper analyses via simulation their performance with respect to the pause time of nodes movement. We find which routing protocol is appropriate for certain network conditions. When the nodes move continually then AODV seems to be better than DSDV. When nodes stay unmoving for a long time then DSDV is preferable. (C) 2015 The Authors. Published by Elsevier B.V.

A novel concept of an integrated spectrometric sensor platform is presented in this paper. The design and functioning of the proposed hardware and software for this instrument are discussed and its application prospects are investigated. It is designed to be a compact, portable and remotely operable sensing system, comprising of high resolution spectral and environmental sensors. In addition, it has the possibilities of internet connectivity and cloud based data access to users from far away operation sites. Thereby it is possible to perform measurements of environmental variables, real time online data visualization and storage of collected data with this system, which is a most unique feature of any such cloud based environmental sensing system developed until this time. With the open source and powerful data and spectrum analyzing software, this system is envisioned to be a highly potential and effective tool for monitoring of the environment-such as air quality, water pollutants, oil spills and many interdisciplinary fields.

It is a key issue that identification and addressing the entity which access the internet through the wireless network with various short distance transmission protocols. To solve the problem, combining with the existing identification and addressing technology of the internet and the IOT, this paper proposes a method based on distributed ID. This method can be divided into two stages. It first designs the structure of distributed ID. Using the distributed address allocation algorithm, it implements the automatic allocation of the distributed ID as well as the distributed ID resolution among the global IOT. After that, an addressing scheme is designed to meet demands of the IOT addressing. It first defines the structure of addressing and then implements the routing addressing algorithm which combines Cluster-Tree with Ad-hoc On-demand Distance Vector Routing. This scheme could improve the routing efficiency as well as achieve lower cost, lower energy consumption and higher reliability of the addressing. By the simulation on NS-2 platform, the experimental results highlight the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed method from three aspects: the correctness of identification allocation, the effectiveness of addressing scheme, and the stability of data transmission.

In this paper, we propose an approach of activity context integration as a means of evaluating semantic information, by integrating situational information from heterogeneous sensors in a smartphone. The proposed activity context integration is a method to provide a foundation for interacting with situation-aware mobile computing systems. Moreover, we develop a context-aware embedded middleware that generates high-level integrated contexts through the fusion of internal . external sensors in a smartphone. The proposed system extracts semantic information such as the user's activities.
