The ongoing convergence of cloud computing and the IoT gives rise to the proliferation of diverse, large-scale IoT and mobile cloud systems. Such novel IoT cloud systems offer numerous advantages for all involved stakeholders. However, due to scale, complexity, and inherent geographical distribution of such systems, governing new IoT cloud resources poses numerous challenges. In this paper we introduce rtGovOps, a novel framework for on-demand runtime operational governance of software-defined IoT cloud systems. To illustrate the feasibility of our framework and its practical applicability to implement and execute operational governance processes in large-scale software-defined IoT cloud system, we evaluate our approach using a real-world case study on managing fleets of electric vehicles.

This paper is mainly concerned with the static interconnection network, its topological properties and metrics, particularly for exiting topologies and proposed one. The interconnection network topology is a key factor in determining the characteristics of parallel computers; suitable topology provides efficiency increment while performing tasks. In the recent years, there are numerous topologies available with various characteristics need to be improved. In this research we analyzed existing static interconnection topologies and developed a novel topology by minimizing some degradation factors of topological properties. A novel topology, Spider-web topology is proposed and shows a considerable advantage over the existing topologies. Further, one of the major aims of this work is to do a comparative study of the existing static interconnection networks with this novel topology by analyzing the properties and metrics. Both theoretical-based and experimental-based comparison conducted here shows that the proposed topology is able to perform better than the existing topologies.

Context-aware Cloud services, which may significantly enhance usability of the future internet-based information infrastructure, also brings in new challenges to Cloud system development. In this paper, we investigate application of value engineering, a systematic method for achieving optimal system design, to address the challenges introduced by the complex computing and networking systems required for context-aware Cloud services. We particularly study the Under Design (UD) and Over Design (OD) problems in bridging business planning and technical implementation of Cloud services. We propose a cognitive conceptualization of UD/OD from a knowledge introduction perspective and show effectiveness of the formalization through simulations.

Recent trends in online learning like Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) and Open Educational Resources (OERs) are changing the landscape in the education sector by allowing learners to self-regulate their learning and providing them with an abundant amount of free learning materials. This paper presents FORGE, a new European initiative for online learning and experimentation via interactive learning resources. FORGE provides learners and educators with access to world-class facilities and high quality learning materials, thus enabling them to carry out experiments on e.g. new internet protocols. Thus, this paper designs a conformance testing framework suitable for IP-WSNs. The framework is an automatic testing methodology that consists of a test agent as a test executor located on the internet side, a test manager in a gateway that manages testing jobs and test cases, and a software under test (SUT), which represents the actual target in the sensor nodes. In order to achieve highest level of knowledge dissemination, many museums have been digitalizing their collections and disseminated them to the world through the internet. On the other hand, cloud computing and mobile communication technologies will further enhance the penetration capability of digital information, enabling mobile users surfing the wave of information world at anytime and anywhere through mobile devices such as smart phones or tablet PC. Nevertheless, both technologies have their own limitations that may hinder their applicability to the digital museums. We use the National Palace Museum (NPM) as a reference museum for the application of cloud computing and mobile communication technologies to mobilize digital museums. A set of design guidelines specific to the NPM's services is formulated and a few edutainment systems were implemented based on these guidelines: (1) Qing Ming Painting and (2) Mao Gong Ding Inscription graphical exhibition systems. With mobilization, the NPM and other museums will be able to lift their world-class services to another level for the benefit of all.

NoSQL databases are the new breed of databases developed to overcome the drawbacks of rdBMS. The goal of NoSQL is to provide scalability, availability and meet other requirements of cloud computing. The common motivation of NoSQL design is to meet scalability and fail over. In most of the NoSQL database systems, data is partitioned and replicated across multiple nodes. Inherently, most of them use either Google's MapReduce or Hadoop distributed File System or Hadoop MapReduce for data collection. This paper investigates on the techniques to search for optimal configuration parameters sets for Hadoop HDFS (Hadoop distributed File System). An optimization technique, socalled the automated benchmarking configuration methodology (ABCM) [4], has been proposed and demonstrated by employing a two-staged sampling technique in order to mitigate the computational complexity and cost of the search process for the optimal configuration parameters set. In this paper, a few methods are further employed to sample those configuration parameters sets such as random Monte Carlo, correlation approaches (versus sequential approach in ABCM) in an effort to improve the level of the resulting performance from the identified optimal configuration parameters set and the execution time as well. Experiments are conducted to compare the level of the resulting performances, the Monte Carlo and Correlation coefficient-based algorithms are developed and implemented to identify a better set of Ω space [4] for a benchmark TestDFSIO in which the number of iterations are kept at the same for comparison purpose, and their resulting performances are compared against the sequential. It is observed that the optimal configuration parameters set identified by the Monte Carlo-based approach reduces the execution time of the benchmark run by 13.84% compared to the sequential sampling method, while the correlation-based method ended up with an unexpected result suspiciously due to lack of linearity of correlation which to be validated in the future work.

The success and continuation of cloud computing depends to a large extent on the quality and performance of the offered services. We propose in this paper a novel architecture for cloud computing called Community-based Cloud computing whose main goal is to improve the quality and performance of the cloud services. In this architecture, cloud services sharing the same domain of interest are partitioned into a set of communities led by a central entity called master. The advantages of such an architecture are (1) facilitating the discovery of cloud services, (2) providing efficient means for better QoS management and resources utilization, and (3) easing intra-layer and cross-layer compositions. However, one of the serious challenges against the success of such an architecture is the presence of malicious services that launch attacks either against the whole community or against some partners in that Community. Therefore, we address this problem by proposing a misbehavior detection framework based on the Support Vector Machine (SVM) learning technique. In this framework, the master of the community monitors the behavior of its community members to populate the training set of the classifier. Thereafter, SVM is used to analyze this set and predict the final classes of the cloud services. Simulation results show that our framework is able to produce highly accurate classifiers, while maximizing the attack detection rate and minimizing the false alarms. They show also that the framework is quite resilient to the increase in the number of malicious services.

The Future internet and the internet of Things (IoT) and clouds as its integral parts need a specialized theory for their information protection from different threats and intruders. The history and main results of research aimed at creating a scientific and methodological foundation of the Information Security Theory in Russia are examined. The discussion considers the formulation of the informal systems theory and approaches for creating the simulation models of information security (IS) maintenance (ISM) processes in conditions of incomplete and insufficiently reliable input data. The structure of a unified IS concept is proposed. Theoretical problems of designing an integrated information protection system's functioning, including IS assessment methodology, methodology of defining requirements to ISM and methodology of creating information protection systems (IPSs) are described. Finally, the results of the IS theory development are summarized and areas of further research are outlined.
