Machine to Machine (M2M) communication system has started gaining its real world momentum by the introduction of internet and mobile technology into this system. Several works have come up to use this integrated system into many different vertical solutions and tried to bind one solution platform for many monolithic systems. One recent innovation is to use HTTP REST architecture as communication platform. This work tackles the first step of implementing OpenMTC as M2M and IoT communication platform. Involved sensors are carbon monoxide gas concentration, temperature, and humidity, combined with Zigbee and Arduino microcontroller to make up 2 Device Application components (or DAs, as proposed by ETSI M2M standard) connected to OpenMTC GSCL. Reliability tests were performed to measure sensor accuracy and system response in sensor-gateway communication. From the experiments in Kamojang Forest (West Java, Indonesia), we conclude that the system is sufficient to operate, considering 341 meters optimal range for sensor and gateway communication for the related area and 1250 ms average data transmission between sensor and gateway.

In the face of enormously increasing amount of personal digital data distributed over various devices, end users are challenged to efficiently store and administrate them. Mostly, users are making use of public storage services in the cloud and local storage devices. Whereas, people with IT expertise make use of sophisticated and expensive network attached storage solutions or self-managed server solutions. Moreover, besides the pure data storage process itself, privacy aware data handling will become important in the future which enables access control to the data in order to avoid malicious access from other users, applications and / or services. For taking advantages from the benefits of the aforementioned different approaches, we advocate an integrated solution. Due to privacy concerns, the most important aspect to take into consideration in such a combined solution is trustworthiness. This paper introduces a trust level based data storage and trust level based data access control solution which changes the control process of data storage and data access. The introduced solution enables user-friendly data handling based on assigned trust levels to storage solutions in a distributed data storage environment and the classified sensitivity level of the data to be stored.

The promising potential of cloud computing and its convergence with technologies such as cloud storage, cloud push, mobile computing leads to new developments for divers application domains, which provides a strong technical support for remote healthcare service as well. Experts and researchers believe that cloud computingtechnology can greatly improve the level of healthcare services. Currently, many experts have done fruitful research in this domain. This paper presents a cloud computing based remote healthcare service system. This system mainly consists of three parts: Portable medical devices, intelligent terminals (phones, tablets, etc.), cloud services platform. Portable medical acquisition devices transmit physiological signal to the intelligent terminal via wireless way (Bluetooth/WiFi). Monitoring software in smart terminal responses for data display, storage, and push the measurement results to the cloud service platform. Cloud services platform is a special website developed using cloud server, cloud storage and cloud push technology, which is the core of the whole system. Users can view and maintain their health data record anytime and anywhere only need an internet equipment. Physicians can view their patient's health status through the same way. If necessary, the doctor can also push the diagnosis to patients and their families' smart phone, so related people can get the diagnosis result at the first time. On the smart terminal, a virtual instrument browser is proposed which can dynamically load virtual instrument page programs and can turn them into executable virtual instrument applications, which can break through the install limitation of measurement application, to avoid installing many applications on the phone.

People spend a third of the lifetime on sleep. Exercise and light exposing have critical influence on sleep quality. Exercise affects sleep efficiency, and the light exposing affect sleep circadian rhythm. This paper investigates the impact of sleep rhythm and efficiency with a HTML5-based behavior recording and analytic service -- Healthy Sleep Space (HSS). HSS takes advantages of important features from HTML5, such as consistent user experience across multiple mobile device, offline processing etc. With HSS, users can record their sleep and behavioral information, then analyze collected information in the cloud, regardless of internet condition or type of mobile devices. We propose a simple Sleep Quotient (SQ) index to evaluate the quality of sleep. Based on the SQ values, HSS provides appropriate exercise and light exposure prescriptions to modify user's daytime behavior, and eventually to improve sleep quality.

Practical work in the laboratory is the most important component in training of the polytechnic specialists. The usage of information and communication technologies as well as internet makes it possible to increase the number of laboratory facilities available for training students. Bauman University has some laboratories of remote access specialized in such important disciplines like robotics, nanotechnologies, plasma physics, radio-physics, and etc. They are designed for shared use by universities not only in Russia, but also in other countries. These laboratories feature the automatic dispatch and information system that enables to carry out remote experimenters via personal cabinets, to store and process the obtained data, and, moreover, allows the system administrator to control the operation of the laboratory equipment. This paper illustrates all the stages, an establishment of remote training session, conduction of the experiment, and primary processing of obtained data. The diagram of equipment operation via internet is shown, the structure and principles of interaction of the distributed software tools for the remote experimentation are considered.

Web of Things (WoT) can be considered as a merger of newly emerging paradigms of internet of Things (IoT) and cloud computing. Rapidly varying, highly volatile and heterogeneous data traffic is a characteristic of the WoT. Hence, the capture, processing, storage and exchange of huge volumes of data is a key requirement in this environment. The crucial resources in the WoT are the sensing devices and the sensing data. Consequently, access control mechanisms employed in this highly dynamic and demanding environment need to be enhanced so as to reduce the end-to-end latency for capturing and exchanging data pertaining to these underlying resources. While there are many previous studies comparing the advantages and disadvantages of access control mechanisms at the algorithm level, vary few of these provide any detailed comparison the performance of these access control mechanisms when used for different data handling procedures in the context of data capture, processing and storage. This study builds on previous work on token-based access control mechanisms and presents a comparison of two different approaches used for handling sensing devices and data in the WoT. It is shown that the aggregated data submission approach is around 700% more efficient than the serial payload submission procedure in reducing the round-trip response time.

Many applications require localized computation in order to ensure better performance, security, and lower costs. In recent years, the emergence of internet-of-Things (IoT) devices has caused a paradigm shift in computing and communication. IoT devices are making our physical environment and infrastructures smarter, bringing pervasive computing to the mainstream. With billions of such devices slated to be deployed in the next five years, we have the opportunity to utilize these devices in converting our physical environment into interactive, smart, and intelligent computing infrastructures. In this paper, we present Aura -- a highly localized IoT based cloud computing model. Aura allows clients to create ad hoc clouds using the IoT and other computing devices in the nearby physical environment, while providing the flexibility of cloud computing. Aura provides localized computation capability from untapped computing resources. Computations done on Aura are highly flexible, giving clients full control to start, stop, migrate, and restart computations in nearby devices as the clients move between different physical locations. To demonstrate the feasibility of Aura, we have ported a lightweight version of MapReduce to run on IoT devices, and evaluated its performance.
