This paper presents Embedded Inertial Navigation System designed and manufactured by the Department of Automatic control and robotics in Silesian University of Technology, Gliwice, Poland. Designed system is currently one of the smallest in the world. Within it there is implemented INS-GPS loosely coupled data fusion algorithm and point-to-point navigation algorithm. Both the algorithms and the constructed hardware were tested using two unmanned ground vehicles varying in size. Acquired results of those successful tests are presented.

Several challenges can arise during augmented/virtual collaboration. In this paper, we identify and classify some of these challenges from a cognitive infocommunications (CogInfoCom) point of view. The starting point of our analysis is the VirCA NET application, which was built on the Virtual Collaboration Arena (VirCA) and developed at the MTA SZTAKI. First, we demonstrate how VirCA and VirCA NET belong to the CogInfoCom paradigm and how they are also related to Future Internet. To highlight our ideas in a practical use-case, we identify key features of infocommunication in a collaborative scenario for building industrial production layouts. In the collaborative scenario, factory planning is defined as a multi-stakeholder and multi-domain challenge, which distributed planning teams have to face. Based on the features of VirCA NET and the specifics of the scenario, we outline a list of challenges, some of which are already solved by the system to some extent, and some of which remain to be solved in future work. The challenges are presented in relation to the theoretical background of CogInfoCom engines and CogInfoCom channels, in order to further strengthen the link between augmented/virtual collaboration and the goals of CogInfoCom.

The development of a Hardware-in-the-Loop (HiL) simulation platform for precision induction motor (IM) servo drive development, evaluation and testing of various control architectures is described in this paper. The platform uses industrial graded hardware components, i.e. Mitsubishi IGBT inverter, 3-phase induction motor and incremental optical encoder as well as various measurement sensors. Its main computational core is implemented using an xPC Target platform which enables rapid validation, prototyping and deployment of various control algorithms via Matlab & Simulink.

To take up the challenge of global distributed companies, Manufacturing Engineering has to be accomplished in a worldwide collaborative way. Design and development of production processes and their execution are nowadays spread all over the world. To ensure quality standards and to create synergies between spatially distributed entities, distance collaboration tools must be provided to allow cooperation even over large distances. The Virtual Reality (VR) is thereby offering beneficial capabilities to exchange current planning stages, identify problems and solve them cooperatively. This paper introduces a new approach for distance collaboration, which enables users to work in a joint virtual space, nearly as if they were working together in the same place. Therefore two full-immersive CAVE-like systems are interconnected using the VirCA (Virtual Collaboration Arena) platform. The paper describes the requirements of Mechanical Engineers towards distance collaboration tools and the technical challenges solved with the enhanced VirCA framework. This working prototype is one premier application in the field of VR-enhanced spatially distributed collaboration. A typical use case scenario is provided to highlight the interaction and cooperation capabilities offered by VirCA NET.

The number of page views can be millions per day on large mobile websites, thus the amount of stored user-data (the amount of analytics data generated by a user visit event) can be millions per day as well. Poor system design, even related to gathering user behavior statistics, can lead to system crash, for example when the data-processing cost of operations is growing exponentially but the hardware performance under the application is around constant. Increasing the performance of the hardware exponentially is not possible in the practice, therefore only optimal data processing can lead to efficient system operation. Mobile web analytics is a process through which statistics about website usage and mobile user behaviors are gathered. Such an analytics program can be used as a tool to get information about mobile users, who they are, where they are coming from, how often they are visiting a website and how much time do they spend on a website. This information is very important from the perspective of business analysis as they helps to make appropriate decisions about a website. In this paper mobile supported websites are considered and it is shown how to calculate the number of user-data records generated in the database per day and total from system startup in general with the aim of estimating the resource requirements of a measurement/analyzing application to mobile supported sites. In addition, measurements are presented based on a user-data database of a large mobile supported website to illustrate the behavior of the proposed models.

Session 1 includes 109 papers selected from 2011 3rdinternational Asia conference on informatics in control, automation and robotics (CAR 2011), held on December 24-25, 2011, Shenzhen, China. This session will act as an international forum for researchers and practitioners interested in the advances in and applications of Intelligent control Systems. It is an opportunity to present and observe the latest research, results, and ideas in these areas. Intelligent control is a rapidly developing, complex, and challenging field of increasing practical importance and still greater potential. Its applications have a solid core in robotics and mechatronics but branch out into areas as diverse as process control, automotive industry, medical equipment, renewable energy and air conditioning. So, this session will aim to strengthen relationships between industry, research laboratories and universities. All papers published in session 1 will be peer evaluated by at least two conference reviewers. Acceptance will be based primarily on originality and contribution.

Article Bee Colony (ABC) is one of the most recently introduced algorithms based on the intelligent foraging behavior of a honey bee swarm. This paper proposes a new variant of the ABC algorithm based on Von Neumann topology structure for solving global optimization problems, namely Von Neumann Neighborhood Article Bee Colony (VABC). VABC significantly improves the original ABC in solving complex optimization problems. In this work, VABC algorithm is used for optimizing a set of widely-used benchmark functions and the comparative results produced by ABC. The simulation results showe that the proposed VABC outperforms the original ABC algorithms in terms of accuracy, robustness and convergence speed.

The present book includes a set of selected papers from the seventh "internationalconference on informatics in control automation and robotics"(ICINCO 2010), held in Madeira, Portugal, from 15 to 18 June 2010. The conference was organized in three simultaneous tracks: "Intelligent control Systems and Optimization", "robotics and automation" and "Signal Processing, Systems Modeling and control". The book is based on the same *** received 320 paper submissions, not including those of workshops or special sessions, from 57 countries, in all continents. After a double blind paper review performed by the Program Committee only 27 submissions were accepted as full papers and thus selected for oral presentation, leading to a full paper acceptance ratio of 8%. Additional papers were accepted as short papers and posters. A further refinement was made after the conference, based also on the assessment of presentation quality, so that this book includes the extended and revised versions of the very best papers of ICINCO *** to high quality standards is a major concern of ICINCO that will be maintained in the next editions of this conference, including not only the stringent paper acceptance ratios but also the quality of the program committee, keynote lectures, workshops and logistics.

In today's highly mobile, networked, and interconnected internet world, the flow and volume of information is overwhelming and continuously increasing. Therefore, it is believed that the next frontier in technological evolution and development will rely in our ability to develop intelligent systems that can help us process, analyze, and make-sense of information autonomously just as a well-trained and educated human expert. In computational intelligence, neuromorphic computing promises to allow for the development of computing systems able to imitate natural neuro-biological processes that will form the foundation for intelligent system architectures. This is achieved by artificially re-creating the highly parallelized computing architecture of the mammalian brain. As an interdisciplinary technology inspired from biology, artificial neural systems have been successfully utilized in many applications, such as control systems, signal processing, pattern recognition, vision systems, and robotics etc. In addition, the emerging neuromorphic computing field can also exploit the characteristic behavior of novel material systems with advanced processing techniques to achieve very large scale integration with highly parallel neural architectures for the fabrication physical architectures. This talk will focus on the technological challenges that we are seeking to overcome to enable intelligent parallel neuromorphic computing systems.
