Personalization is becoming a crucial factor in many areas of life including education. Currently, a learning environment (LE) such as moodle, ILIAS, OLAT and dotLRN is far from being able to adapt the assessment to the students'individual context, prior knowledge and preferences, because personalization is still insufficiently implemented or even not addressed in this system. In contrast, an adaptive assessment system (AAS) takes the students'characteristics into account in order to personalize the assessment, which may result in more objective assessment findings. This paper analyzes how current open standards and specifications can be used to achieve integration between LEs and AASs seamlessly, so that they can profit from each other. For that reason, both LEs and AASs requirements are analyzed, because they have great influence on the further considerations. LEs require control information as well as assessment information from the AASs, which in turn require student as well as assessment information from the LEs. As a result of the paper, an interworking of several standards and specifications (OPAQUE, IEEE LTSC PAPI, IMS LIP, IMS QTI, etc.) is proposed, which can be used to achieve integration between LEs and AASs.

As our society moves from an information-based to an innovation-based environment, it is not just important what you know, but how you can use your own knowledge in order to solve problems and create new knowledge. Hence, assessment systems need to evaluate not just the students'factual knowledge, but also their problem-solving and reasoning strategies. This leads to a demand for the assessment of higher-order thinking skills (HOTS). This paper analyzes HOTS and possibilities for their measurement. As a result, adaptive assessment systems (AASs) are in response to the emerging need of personalization while assessing HOTS. AASs take student's individual context, prior knowledge and preferences into account in order to personalize the assessment. This personalized support helps students develop HOTS. But, this paper also reveals several arising issues, which need to be addressed when measuring HOTS with AASs.

To predict the throughput of the cluster tool and simulate the system operation process, the paper develops a simulation platform, named as ClusterSim. ClusterSim provides the easy-to-use interface to accept user's input about the cluster tool configuration. The results that ClusterSim runs include the wafer foundation period, the lot period, chamber utilization, and others. The output of ClusterSim is verified using Perkinson's model. The result indicates this platform is valid. ClusterSim provides an effective tool for users to analyze the cluster tool performance and validate feasibility of some routine recipe.
