The prevailing referring expression comprehension (REC) method is based on two stages: 1) detecting multiple candidate proposals using an object detector and 2) aligning proposals with text descriptions. Existing two-stage models have achieved significant improvements with excellent alignment modules. However, their alignment modules treat each proposal equally without filtering expression-unrelated proposals. These expression-unrelated proposals may interfere with the alignment modules’ ability to accurately reason about the target proposal. These proposals also increase the difficulty of training alignment modules. To solve this problem, we propose a new framework, that can suppress expression-unrelated proposals for alignment modules. Specifically, we first design a suppression module, which calculates the relevance scores between the proposals and the expression by using the semantics in the expression. Then, these scores are integrated into three basic alignment modules, including subject, location, and relationship modules, to guide each module to focus on the expression-related proposals. We conduct extensive experiments on three benchmark datasets, and the results show the effectiveness of our suppression module and performance improvement.

Robot teleoperation attracts growing attention of researchers in many domains. Plenty of factors contribute to the good performance of a smart teleoperation system, and one crucial factor is that it provides an environmental feedback for the operator. Hence, in this paper, we offer a solution to help operator to perceive the contact force of the tele-robot. In addition, we introduce a strategy to cooperatively teleoperate two follower robots by using only single leader1 robot, which helps to reduce the control burden for the operator, as well as enables the teleoperation system to avoid the problem caused by the mismatched degree of freedom (DoF). Moreover, an impedance model based technique is employed to regulate the holding internal force during object-holding tasks. Experiments are conducted gradually, using a Touch X device as the leader robot and two arms of the Baxter robot as the tele-robots. Experimental results validate the feasibility of the proposed teleoperation system. © 2021 Chinese automation and Computing Society in the UK-CACSUK.

Transparent slide detection, pick and place automation are obtained in order to boost speed, accuracy and smooth workflow between slide coverslipping and digital scanning operation in digital pathology. Fully automatic, precise, robust solution has been developed by robotic arm using computer vision and image processing techniques. Magazine (slide holder) and gripper design, camera selection and mapping to robot base coordinate system are all guided. Python based software algorithms for slide detection and 3D position determination applied in dynamically changeable environment are also explained step by step. Complete automatic process control method is implemented and tested for different types of slide.

Tactile sensor developments have been seen in the past years. The flexible and soft type of these sensors became popular due to their capability to ensure safe physical interactions with humans. This paper presents a flexible force-sensitive sealed packet that can detect normal force acting on its surface. Our sensor used poly(3,4 ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrene sulfonate) or PEDOT:PSS and liquid binder to form a conductive liquid mixture and put it inside the sealed packet of thin plastic. One notable difference between our proposed sensor and other PEDOT:PSS-based sensors is that ours is low-cost and easy to fabricate. For our data acquisition setup, we used a voltage divider circuit with a 68k ohm resistor connected to an analog pin of an Arduino Uno. We also used the DAYSENSOR’s DYZ-101 5-kg load cell to determine the amount of force applied, which served as our ground truth. The changes in resistance were compared against the force applied. Linear regression analysis was done to show the correlation between the two quantities, and its slope corresponds to the sensor’s sensitivity. We performed a repeatability analysis of the proposed sensor, although some challenges were observed since manual pressing was done. We also tested the change in sensitivity once a different material, such as cardboard, foam, and copper tape, is placed between the load cell and our proposed sensor. Our results showed that we can achieve higher sensitivity and better linearity using foam. For future works, we plan to extend this study to skin-like wearable devices and tactile sensing.

Diabetic foot ulceration (DFU) is an open wound that occurs in approximately 15% of patients with diabetes, and is mostly located on the sole. Currently, it is one of the major challenges for healthcare systems around the world and a serious complication of diabetes. DFU causes infection and ischemia which can significantly prolong treatment and result in limb amputation and terminal illness. Thus, regular monitoring of the DFU area is necessary to assess the healing process and improve patient care. In this regard, we propose an end-to-end ensemble fully convolutional network (DFU-Ens), which mainly includes three modules: the U-Net module (DFU-Seg), the hybrid approach (DFU-Det) containing the YOLOv4 based detection module and the Vision Transformer DETR detection approaches. The ensemble solution is based on a high ranking strategy which combines DFU-Seg with a hybrid solution of bounding-box detection (performed using the latest DETR vision transformer architecture and YOLOv4) and patch segmentation. On the DFUC2022 validation set, we achieved 0.643 Dice score for the ensemble approach, 0.648 for DFU-Seg, and 0.556 and 0.581 for hybrid approaches based on YOLOv4 and DETR, respectively, with DETR having the best sensitivity. On the later published test set, DFU-Seg achieve a Dice score of 0.67 while the ensemble method achived 0.66. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Indonesia's renewable energy potential reaches 443 GW. The potential for solar energy has the largest portion up to 207 GW. Indonesia has average irradiation of 4.8 kWh / m2 / year. Even though it has great renewable energy potential, its utilization is still minimal. Indonesia still has areas that are not yet electrified. Patippi Village is one of the isolated villages in Asmat Regency, Papua. This village has a potential emission of 4.6 kWh / m2 / year with a communal load requirement of 31.08 kWh / day and an administrative load of 11.658 kWh / day. Hybrid PV-Battery-Genset systems integrate renewable energy sources to generate electricity for distribution to the regions to increase system reliability. The design and analysis were carried out using MATLAB / Simulink and HOMER Pro software with a Cycle Charging control strategy. The results of the analysis are used to implement a reliable off-grid PV-Battery-Genset hybrid system in clear and cloudy skies, with an economical Levelized Cost of Energy (LCOE) and Net Present Cost (NPC). © 2021 IEEE.

With the continuous development of deep learning, semantic segmentation, as the basis of 3D scene understanding, has also been widely used in 3D point clouds. Semantic segmentation based on the point cloud has obvious advantages due to its rich data. Aiming at the problems of unclear segmentation target and unclear edge in point cloud semantic segmentation, a 3D point cloud semantic segmentation algorithm integrating edge detection was proposed. Firstly, complete global semantic features are obtained by the mainstream 3D point cloud semantic segmentation framework. Then, semantic edge detection is used to extract edge semantic features from the point cloud. Finally, the fusion module fuses the semantic features belonging to the same object to make the segmentation target more accurate. In addition, a dual semantic loss function is used to produce semantic segmentation results with better boundaries. Experimental results show that the improved algorithm has better precision than KPConv in S3DIS and ScanNet datasets and better segmentation performance. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Accurate prediction of the Air Quality Index (AQI) is of paramount importance as the negative health impact of poor air quality on humans has been widely established. The paper proposes an efficient model for AQI prediction based on the transformer algorithm. This model is compared with the widely used RNN-LSTM and regression model and outperforms both. Real-time data on pollutant concentration and meteorological data for the Anand Vihar, Delhi, India monitoring station from November 1, 2017, till August 6, 2022, has been used for analysis. From the data available for 11 pollutants, the AQI is determined as per the Central Pollution control Board’s (CPCB’s) formula. The paper aims to predict the AQI along with the levels of PM2.5, CO, and PM10 pollutants. RMSE and MAE for PM2.5 evaluated using transformer are 17.74 and 11.15, respectively, best amongst all the models. Prior and accurate knowledge about Air Quality Index levels is directly relevant for policy-makers and the population at large so that the administrators may implement corrective measures. As the concept of smart cities is rapidly taking shape, the residents of such cities have the right to know about the air quality they are likely to breathe in the near future so that smart responses may be planned well in advance. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd 2023.

Industrial real-time Ethernet technology is widely used in modern industrial control systems due to its high communication rate and low application cost. However, in complex network environments, industrial real-time Ethernet may encounter data collisions, data loss, and other issues, which reduce the overall reliability of industrial control systems. To address these issues, a method for designing and implementing industrial real-time Ethernet redundancy networks based on parallel redundancy protocols is proposed. The method first analyzes the redundant data frame structure, dual-connected node (DANP) structure, and redundancy implementation principle of parallel redundancy protocols (PRP). Then, aiming at the standard redundancy discard algorithm principle and its shortcomings, an improved sliding window redundancy discard algorithm is proposed to adapt to complex network environments. Based on the discard algorithm, dual-connected redundancy nodes are designed and implemented. Finally, the dual-connected redundancy nodes are used as the core to construct industrial real-time Ethernet redundancy networks. The test results show that in a PRP-based industrial real-time Ethernet redundant network, when a single redundant network fails, the system can switch without delay, greatly improving the reliability of the industrial control system communication network

This paper presents the design of simulation model of the proposed Multilevel Boost Converter (MBC)-Three Switch Inverter (TSI) for Self-Consumption (SELCO) or known as microinverter in Off-grid Photovoltaic (OGPV) system. Individual PV without array combination is the applied rule towards Microinverter PV panel. The proposed MBC-TSI topology utilize only two isolated individual PV panel for a new approach toward two-stage microinverter (TSM) PV configuration. Conventional H-bridge topology with a total of 7 identical unit of PV panels and H-Bridge topology is taken for reference study aims for 230Vrms PV system with voltage gain almost the same with the proposed topology. The simulation model has been developed using MATLAB Simulink at Standard Test Condition (STC) with open loop switching technique adopted by implementing the switching signals produced by the pulse generator block. The steady-state simulation results show that the proposed MBC-TSI topology successfully generated a voltage gain, AV of 7.34 through reduced number of PV panel (2-unit PV instead of 7-unit PV from the reference study) and generated a balanced 3-level 230Vrms output with voltage and current harmonic percentage of 48.34% and 16.47% respectively. Thus, proved the proposed topology offering a new approach towards TSM in SELCO PV network.
