In the requirements definition phase, conceptual models are used to understand the developing software. Although scenarios are often described on the basis of conceptual models, there are cases that necessary requirements are omitted in the scenarios when the scenarios are created manually. Herein we propose an approach to support scenario creation from conceptual models where event lists of scenarios, which include checkpoints to define requirements, are generated from conceptual models automatically. The conceptual models represent the core resources of the software, the owner of the core resources, and use cases as class diagrams. Then software engineers and their clients arrange the event lists and define requirements as scenarios on the basis of the checkpoints. Our approach can support describing scenarios with all the necessary requirements from conceptual models. To confirm the effectiveness of our approach, we compared our approach to the all-manual approach.

In this invited presentation, we give an overview on a soundly based approach to Secure software engineering based on the UML extension UMLsec. More specifically, one main current focus is the automated, formally based analysis of software artefacts against security requirements. This is motivated by the observation that the current state of security engineering in practice is far from satisfactory. The goal is thus to start with the actual industrial engineering methods of security-critical software-based systems, to identify problems which are practically amenable to tool-supported, formally sound analysis methods, and to try to solve these problems using these methods. An important objective is to ensure that these analysis methods can actually be used in practice by keeping the additional overhead in using them bounded: First, they take as input artefacts which are already available in current industrial software development (such as UML models and program source code) and do not have to be constructed just to perform the analysis. Second, the tools should be reasonably easy to use and have a strong emphasis on automation. We also present results from some recent work on applying model-based security analysis to the analysis of economic aspects of securing critical infrastructures. In complex and collaborative ecosystems like business networks, different partners need to share their respective expert knowledge in order to be successful. Due to the diversity of business applications and highly customized application suites used by business partners, knowledge exchange and the establishment of interoperability between enterprise applications is extremely difficult. Different representations and meanings of enterprise data lead to incomprehensibility between partners inside collaborative environments. This paper presents an model-driven approach to support sustainable interoperability for enterprise applications in collaborative environments. Based on an event-driven architecture, Knowledge Links enable dynamic modelling of knowledge transformations between knowledge domains. They keep background consistency between the connected domains, thus making enterprise applications interoperable. Knowledge Links can be created and modified at any time, which enables sustainable interoperability. Business partners are able to rely on their enterprise applications and don't need to switch to another system. Sensitive data stays covert due to the nature of modular ontologies. The presented approach is exemplified in the context of the OSMOSE Project and will be evaluated by the proof-of-concept scenarios in this Project.

The competition inherent to globalisation has led enterprises to gather in nests of specialised business providers with the purpose of building better applications and provide more complete solutions. This, added to the improvements on the Information and Communications Technologies (ICT), led to a paradigm shift from product-centrism to service-centrism and to the need to communicate and interoperate. Traditional segments like banking, insurance and aerospace subcontract a large number of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) that are undergoing this change, and must ensure the criticality and accuracy of their business is not affected or impacted in any way. This also is an excellent motivation for improving the capabilities for capturing the knowledge about businesses, not only their processes and methods but also their surrounding environment. The EU co-funded FP7 TIMBUS project comprises tools and techniques to improve business continuity featuring an intelligent strategy for digital preservation of business assets and environments based on risk-management. This paper proposes the modelling of service-based business information capturing strategies to help in the proper establishment of a knowledge base that permits a seamless interoperability between enterprises.

Nowadays, security analysis of complex systems has become a major concern. Many works have been achieved to reduce vulnerabilities in such systems. However, existing methods used to perform security assessment as a holistic approach are still poorly instrumented and limited in scope. In this work, we propose methodology and associated framework for security analysis. The methodology relies upon model-driven engineering approach and combines two types of methods: a qualitative method named EBIOS that is usually simple and helps to identify critical parts of the system;then a quantitative method, the Attack Trees method, that is more complex but gives more accurate results. We present the automatic generation of Attack trees from EBIOS analysis phase. We show on a SCADA system case study how our process can be applied.

model-driven engineering aims at managing the complexity of large software systems by describing their various aspects through dedicated models. This approach requires to employ different modeling languages that are tailored to specific system aspects, yet can be interpreted together to form a coherent description of the total system. Traditionally, implementations of such integrated languages have been monolithic language projects with little modularization and reuse of language parts. This paper presents a method for engineering reusable language components that can be efficiently combined on the syntax level. The method is based on the concepts of language aggregation, language embedding, and language inheritance. The result is the ability to efficiently develop project-specific combinations of modeling languages in an agile manner.

Complex system developments are more and more collaborative. Collaboration strategies largely depend on the development context at modelling, instantiation or enactment time. To put collaboration in action, we propose collaboration process patterns to define, reuse and enact collaborative software development processes. In this paper we describe the definition and application of collaboration patterns. Our patterns, inspired from workflow patterns of Van der Aalst, are described in CMSPEM, a Process modelling Language developed in our team in 2014. In this paper, we briefly describe the CMSPEM metamodel and focus our presentation on two collaboration patterns: Duplicate in Sequence with Multiple Actors, Duplicate in Parallel with Multiple Actors and Merge. The approach is illustrated by a case study concerning the collaborative and representative process "Review a deliverable".

model-driven techniques offer new solutions to support development and verification and validation (V&V) activities of software-intensive systems. As they can reduce costs, and ease the certification process as well, they are attractive also in safety-critical domains. We present an approach for model-in-the-loop testing within an OMG-based model-driven process, aimed at supporting system V&V activities. The approach is based on the definition of a model of the system environment, named Computation Independent Test (CIT) model. The CIT enables various forms of system test, allowing early detection of design faults. We show the benefits of the approach with reference to a pilot project that is part of a railway interlocking system. The system, required to be CEN-ELEC SIL-4 compliant, has been provided by the Hungarian company Prolan Co. in the context of an industrial-academic partnership.

model-driven development (MDD) is a well-established area in software engineering. Today, it is applied in many sectors of industry to support various activities in systems lifecycle, from requirements to verification and validation. One of the first, and most notable modeling languages for specifying test cases for complex software systems is the UML Testing Profile (UTP). Unfortunately, the problem with such a language is that the scope of concepts and modeling elements is too broad in order to solve specific problems. In this paper, we introduce a textual domain-specific language, the UTP-based Testing Language (Ubtl) that allows specifying test cases from UTP. This approach eases the use of UTP, because only particular aspects are captured within the language and a test engineer is obligated to use transformable constructs only. The remainder of this paper consists of an application of Ubtl on a system and a test architecture from the automotive domain.

User Interfaces (UI) design is a complex and multi-faceted problem, owing to the ever increasing variability of the design options and the interaction context (devices, user profiles, and their environment). Moreover, UI design choices stand on users' needs elicitation, which are difficult to evaluate precisely upfront and require iterative design cycles based on trial and error. All this complex variability should be managed efficiently to ensure moderate design costs. In this article, we propose a variability management approach integrated into a UI rapid prototyping process, which involves the combination of model-driven engineering (MDE) and software Product Lines. Our approach supports the separation of concerns through multi-step partial configuration of UI features, enabling each stakeholder of the UI design process to define the variability on the assets she manages. We have implemented this approach in our existing MDE UI generation Framework.
