Environmental monitoring is critical in understanding whether the quality of our environment is getting better or worse. Information gathered by using an environmental monitoring system is important to make decisions. Vietnam is a vulnerable country of climate change. Specially, in the South of Vietnam, the Mekong delta is known as the region getting the most impact of sea level rise in Vietnam. That leads to a lot of problems making the worst effects to residents in the area, who are mainly still very poor. On the other hand, Vietnam is going on industrialization process that makes a strong effect on the environment. To deal with these challenges, different projects of environment management have been proposed and implemented and many monitoring systems have been built in those projects. Those systems are basically sensor networks with high cost in developing and maintaining. They are related to modern technology such as cloud, communication mobile and wireless. They provide the data for large community for different purposes. Therefore, building such a system is normally a long term project that requires an incremental and modular development for a complex system. This paper, on one hand, represents some common characteristics of an environment monitoring system that requires more study to develop a formal model and a methodology for their specifications, implementations and verification. On the other hand, we would like to adapt the formal model approach proposed for Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) to an environmental monitoring system. In many development projects models are core artifacts used to generate concrete implementations from them. However, for many systems it is impossible or not useful to generate the complete software system from models alone. Hence, developers need mechanisms for integrating generated and handwritten code. Applying such mechanisms without considering their effects can cause issues in projects, where model and code artifacts are essential. Thus, a sound approach for the integration of both forms of code is needed. In this paper, we provide an overview of mechanisms for integrating handwritten and generated object-oriented code. To compare these mechanisms, we define and apply a set of criteria. The results are intended to help model-driven development (MDD) tool developers in choosing an appropriate integration mechanism. In this extended version, we additionally discuss essential integration aspects including the protection of generated code and elaborate on how to use action languages to extend generated code.

Safety case development is highly recommended by some safety standards to justify the safety of a system. The Goal Structuring Notation (GSN) is a popular approach to construct a safety case. However, the content of the safety case elements, such as safety claims, is in natural language. Therefore, a common understanding of the meaning of a safety claim may be difficult to reach. Consequently, the confidence of a safety claim can be misplaced. In this paper, we propose to use an SBVRbased controlled language to support safety case development. By using the controlled language, the ambiguities caused by natural language can be mitigated. Furthermore, an SBVR editor for building a vocabulary and a GSN editor with vocabulary support are developed. Finally, a case study has been carried out to show the benefits of using the controlled language for safety case construction.

The paper summarizes the results of numerical analysis conducted with the aim to compare the distribution of stresses in masonry pillars constructed using different bricklaying techniques. The analysis was carried out in reaction to the discussion of members of Czech standardization committee TNK 37 – Masonry structures. Currently, most of masonry load-bearing structures in the Czech Republic are made from clay blocks without mortar in perpend joints. The analysis seeks the answer to the question whether it is possible, in case of the eccentrically loaded masonry pillars with unfilled perpend joints, to consider the value of design compressive strength calculated using the same approach as for pillars with filled perpend joints for the check of vertical load resistance. Supplementary comparison of the behavior of the pillars with filled and unfilled perpend joints loaded by lateral load in the plane of the pillar (corresponding to short shear walls) was also conducted. 2D FEM model created in ATENA Science software was exploited for the analysis. The results confirmed that the approaches contained in ČSN EN 1996-1-1 [1] are basically applicable for pillars with unfilled perpend joints. © 2016 Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

Traditionally, the global behaviour of distributed reactive systems has been considered hard to specify completely, and therefore many details are left to the designers to decide. The challenge addressed in this paper is how this situation can be improved. Is it possible to specify the global behaviour of distributed reactive systems in a way which eases comprehension of the system without compromising the specification's correctness, completeness, modularity and readability? Instead of defining the global behaviour models in a monolithic way, we approach the problem by decomposing the specification into interface functionality and core functionality. The resulting interface-modular method for system specification is presented and discussed in this paper using a TaxiCentral as case study. The novelty of this method lies in the clear separation of interfaces from core functionality, and the use of activity diagrams in combination with collaborations to express and compose the specifications. Given a set of core functionality and interface functionalities, the core functionality and interface functionalities are composed into a specification of the complete global behaviour. The prospects for automatic design synthesis from such a specification are discussed.

The maintenance and evolution of software architecture models may become tricky when design rationale is lost over time. Lots of requirements and decisions must be taken into account when dealing with software architecture, such that proper traceability mechanisms should be used all over the system life-cycle. In a previous work, we specified an architectural framework based on domain specific languages meant to address this traceability problem. We now relate a comparative case study we conducted over a simulated project where participants had to develop an online book store in two phases, the second phase imitating a system evolution. We evaluated the functional completeness of the software they built as well as the traceability of design decisions and rationale. The participants were also asked to criticize the design method and language they used in a feedback report and through a questionnaire. Even if the size of the case study is rather limited, it clearly highlights the advantages of our approach regarding, among others, its expressiveness and decisions traceability (The present paper is a revised version of SA design by stepwise transformations [8]).

In complex and collaborative ecosystems, different partners need to share their respective expert knowledge in order to be successful. Due to the diversity of business applications and highly customized application suites used by business partners, knowledge exchange and the establishment of interoperability between enterprise applications is extremely difficult. Different meanings of enterprise data lead to incomprehensibility between partners. This paper presents a model-driven approach to support sustainable interoperability for enterprise applications in collaborative environments. Knowledge Links enable dynamic modelling of knowledge transformations between knowledge domains and keep background consistency between the connected domains. Knowledge Links can be created and modified at any time, which enables sustainable interoperability. Business partners may rely on their enterprise applications and sensitive data stays covert due to the nature of modular ontologies. The presented approach is exemplified in the context of the OSMOSE Project and will be evaluated by the proof-of-concept scenarios in this Project.

software architecture derivation and evaluation are complex and error prone activities that still represent an open problem with many challenges and opportunities where model-driven software development can play a leading role. In software product line development, the use of model-driven principles could help by providing a richer semantic representation of a product line and by capturing the architectural design decisions and its impact on the product quality attributes. In this chapter, we analyze the main challenges and opportunities surrounding the product architecture derivation and evaluation and introduce QuaDAI, a method for the derivation, evaluation, and improvement of product architectures in model-driven software product line development environments. The method comprises a multimodel, which represents the different viewpoints of a software product line, and a process conducted by model transformations that automate the derivation, evaluation, and improvement of product architectures.
