The present article introduces a novel approach to significantly enhance the computational efficiency of modern Digital Signal processing (DSP) processors. The algorithm enhances the efficiency of Sum of Products (SOP) operations, which are essential for real-time signal processing applications, by utilizing distributed Arithmetic (DA) techniques for the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) and its inverse (Inverse FFT) (IDFT) computations. The present study undertakes an exhaustive quantitative analysis to assess the computational delays of the proposed 2, 4, and 8-point Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) and Inverse Discrete Fourier Transform (IDFT) across various bit representations (4, 8, and 16-bit). For example, when using 4-bit representations, the computational delays for a 2-point Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) are measured to be 13.318ns, 30.629ns for a 4-point FFT, and 27.779ns for an 8-point FFT. Similarly, the delays for the 2-point Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) in an 8-bit representation are 13.727ns, the 4-point FFT in 22.276ns, and the 8-point FFT in 30.592ns. The study further includes the addition of appropriate delays for IDFT operations, which enhances the understanding of the effectiveness of the approach suggested in various scenarios. Furthermore, the research presents and evaluates three distinct categories of transforms, namely 2-point, 4-point, and 8-point FFT and IDFT structures. These structures utilize different quantities of Look-Up Tables (LUTs) for computational purposes. The research showcases the exceptional computing efficiency of the suggested design through detailed quantitative analysis, emphasizing its potential advantages in improving DSP implementations in practical situations. © 2025 IEEE.

MapReduce is a widespread programming paradigm used to develop scalable parallel applications in various fields. Despite the simplicity of the MapReduce model, using it to effectively solve real-life problems can be challenging for developers and designers. Furthermore, ensuring the reliability and correct requirements of any system is fundamental at the early stage of development, as late corrections are estimated to be more than 200 times greater than corrections during requirement engineering. Therefore, a systematic approach is required to assist designers in developing reliable MapReduce applications. In this paper, we present a design pattern-based approach to the specification and formal verification of MapReduce applications using the BPMN notation and the Event B method. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

The integration of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) with Natural Language processing (NLP) has transformed how spatial data is accessed and utilized. By enabling GIS interfaces to interpret natural language queries, NLP enhances user experience, democratizes geospatial data, and improves query accuracy. This paper reviews state-of-the-art methodologies for geo-parsing, geo-coding, and spatial query interpretation, addressing challenges like geographic ambiguity, imprecise spatial relationships, and scalability limitations. Key contributions include a systematic literature review identifying research gaps such as insufficient context-awareness and a lack of annotated datasets, alongside case studies demonstrating the benefits of NLP integration in applications like disaster management and urban planning. Future opportunities are explored in leveraging deep learning, multimodal data integration, and adaptive user interfaces to further enhance GIS accessibility and usability. Addressing these gaps and building scalable frameworks will pave the way for GIS systems that are not only powerful but also inclusive, fostering global accessibility and broader adoption of geospatial technologies. © 2025 IEEE.

Approximate parallel prefix adders are a type of circuit that can perform addition operations on binary numbers with high speed, low area, and less power. These circuits are designed to provide approximate results, which means that they sacrifice accuracy for efficiency. This trade-off makes them ideal for use in applications where speed is more important than precision. In recent years, there has been a growing interest in the improvement of these circuits, as they have the potential to revolutionize the field of digital signal processing. Kogge–Stone (KS) adder is a kind of parallel prefix adder that has the strong point of quickest addition primarily based on design time. Approximation Kogge–Stone (AxKS) adder is a variant of basic Kogge–Stone Adder that introduces a level of approximation in its operation. In this paper, a new approximate KS Adder is proposed with high-speed performance and less area. Linear algebra algorithms, such as the Householder QR decomposition, are pivotal in various applications including signal processing, optimization, and numerical solutions to systems of linear equations. Traditional sequential implementations of the Householder algorithm face significant limitations in terms of performance and scalability when applied to large matrices. To overcome these constraints, this paper explores the parallelization of the Householder QR algorithm on Graphics processing Units (GPUs) using CUDA, a parallel computing platform and programming model developed by NVIDIA. Our method ensures the availability of critical intermediate data, distinguishing it from standard libraries like cuSOLVER, which modify the processing order and often discard important intermediate computations. By leveraging CUDA streams, we achieve enhanced parallelism without compromising the integrity of the algorithm's sequence or the accessibility of intermediate data. Our performance analysis reveals that our implementation achieves efficiency comparable to cuSOLVER, making it a viable option. This study not only presents a novel implementation but also extends the potential for GPU-accelerated linear algebra procedures to benefit a wider range of scientific and engineering applications.

This paper introduces XMeta-OS, a meta-operating system specially designed with Linux as its foundation to unify and optimize resource management for the distributed edge-cloud when dynamic use of GPU resources is possible. This approach offer a new GPU abstraction layer and dynamic edge-cloud allocation model that offer enhanced flexibility and resource utilization over existing systems like Kubernetes and OpenStack. By using likely sensitive data, the model applied cloud-pushed deployment model. XMeta-OS manages computer resources in real-time. Therefore, fulfilling high performance various needs. It allocates CPU and GPU in real-time to workloads requiring massive parallel processing, such as machine learning, scientific simulations, real-time data analytics, and transportation tasks. Fabrication in the laboratory of an edge-cloud environment can help to assess the scalability, fault tolerance and efficiency of the system. It showcases the overall architectural design of XMeta-OS. Changes to the kernel and security solutions for safe and effective distribution are suggested. This article presents the design of the XMeta-OS. The future of XMeta-OS entails usage and testing with which we see latency, energy, computation and other such measurements in labs. XMeta-OS is a solution to cost performance, emerging application, large-scale edge-cloud deployments, and distributed GPU-enabled infrastructures. Currently, the landscape of computer hardware architecture presents the characteristics of heterogeneity and diversity, prompting widespread attention to cross-platform portable parallel programming techniques. Most existing portable programming approaches adopt the "MPI+X" strategy, focusing mainly on node-level "X" parallelism, while inter-node parallelization still relies on manual MPI programming. OP2 is a domain-specific language-based portable parallel programming framework for unstructured mesh applications that supports the automatic generation of MPI parallel code. However, programmers must manually write pre-processing code during code refactoring, such as handling the mapping relationship between global and process-local variables and the initial distribution of process-local data. In this paper, we propose MARO (MPI Automatic Refactoring for OP2), an automatic refactoring method for generating pre-processing code targeting MPI code generation within the OP2 programming framework for unstructured mesh applications. This method automatically generates the pre-processing code required for MPI parallelism through the source-to-source translator, enabling OP2 to generate MPI parallel code without requiring users to write MPI-related code manually. We compare the automatically refactored OP2 applications using the proposed method with those manually refactored to validate its effectiveness. The proposed method enhances OP2’s automatic parallel code generation capability, enabling it to achieve fully automatic MPI parallelization. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

Mini-applications are widely used in parallel computing for testing and benchmarking purposes. However, many existing mini-applications are not suitable for teaching, since they require advanced knowledge of algebra, numerical analysis or physics to be fully understood, which might be beyond the reach of beginners. In this paper we describe a set of programming assignments, called parallel etudes, that have been used in the last years for teaching High Performance Computing at the undergraduate level. These applications are self-contained, self-documenting, and short. They are drawn from more familiar domains such as 3D rendering, simulation, image processing and simple physics models, to be more accessible to students without a strong mathematical background. The mini-applications target shared-memory, distributed-memory and GPU programming. The analysis of the students’ feedback and final grades provides indirect support for the effectiveness of the etudes.

In this paper we present a novel distributed algorithm for solving the Bi-Objective Minimum Spanning Tree (BMST) problem using a two-phase method. The proposed approach leverages the MapReduce computing paradigm to define a distributed version of the most computational intensive part of this method, the second phase. In this phase, a recursive algorithm explores non-supported non-dominated points by evaluating spanning trees within specified regions in the objective space. The distributed nature of our approach allows parallel processing of multiple triangles in the objective space aiming at reducing the execution time and improving the scalability performance. Our preliminary experimental results, conducted using an HPC infrastructure, show that the improvements in the scalability performance when tasks show a balanced processing time are non-negligible but also highlight that a simple distribution of processes among the nodes of the distributed system is not enough to always achieve a good parallelization. Our analysis provided us with useful insights to achieve efficiency and effectiveness of this approach with respect to its sequential counterpart, pointing out its potential for practical applications in multi-objective optimization. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

The Edge Computing environments enable the development of pervasive applications distributed across extensive geographical areas, overcoming specific issues associated with centralized information processing, such as network bandwidth saturation and the need for large computing infrastructures. This work presents two case studies of deploying applications for environmental monitoring on low-energy and high-performance edge computing devices, employing accelerated artificial intelligence techniques based on GPUs. The first problem entails the classification of various materials within hyperspectral images, while the second problem focuses on identifying floating plastic debris. The applications were validated on a Nvidia Jetson Nano sensor board, demonstrating good accuracy, effectiveness, and energy consumption results. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.
