Due to the characteristics of P2P systems, SQL query processing in these systems is more complex than traditional distributed DBMS. In this context, semantic and structural heterogeneity of local schemas prevent peers to exchange their data in a comprehensive way. Schema heterogeneity could lead to incorrect answers for the localization query. Furthermore, in the optimization phase, the lack of information and the obsolete statistics found in local catalogs make the execution plan suboptimal. In this paper, we propose a new approach to SQL query processing in P2P environments. The main features of proposed approach are: (i) Avoiding any centralized structures of the peers participating in the system, (ii) Integrating a Domain Ontology which ensures a comprehensive data exchange in Chord protocol that guarantees efficient locating of data sources, and (iii) Extending the localization phase to be able to obtain information needed in the optimization phase. This information is more reliable than the statistics found in the local catalogs. We describe our approach in detail with examples.

Lexical alignment is one of the most challenging tasks in processing and exploiting parallel texts. There are numerous applications that may benefit from an accurate multilingual lexical alignment of bi- And multi-language corpora. We describe in this paper a hypothesistesting approach to the problem of automatic extraction of translation equivalents from sentence-aligned and tagged parallel corpora. The algorithm was used for automatic extraction of 6 bi-lingual lexicons with English as source language and Bulgarian, Czech, Estonian, Hungarian, Romanian and Slovene as the target one, as well as a 7-language lexicon with English as a hub and the other 6 CEE languages. For the experiments described here we used the 7-language aligned corpus based on Orwell's "1984" novel.

This research aims to investigate ways of improving the performance and security of web applications by means of Machine learning methods. Research will be carried out on the basis of a specific Smart Web Platform (SWP). This is being developed on top of the .NET framework and MySQL supported by a KTP grant. Several techniques, including Advanced SQL injection, MapReduce and distributedprocessing on clusters, will be used to develop a comprehensive framework based on machine learning methods for web applications. Finally a realistic model capable of rating a website's performance and security will be developed and validated through simulations.

In this paper, we present a framework that gives the user a tool at hand to explore large data sets from built infrastructure. In a first step we describe the integration of fully detailed product models of constructions delivering the geometric and auxiliary information we build up our data exploration from. The main part of this paper follows by presenting the application of a hierarchical data structure, an octree, that is capable of holding building information for a whole region or even a country and the development of complexity reduction algorithms that allow the visualisation of those data. To exploit the full performance of modern hardware platforms, the application of parallelisation techniques is inevitable and we present the implementation of these techniques to the data processing steps performed in the framework. After introducing the framework, we show possible applications to various disciplines such as environmental and civil engineering, architecture, or disaster management.

With increasing requirements of mobile users on computational demanding applications, the need for offloading of computation to a cloud is a convenient way to provide high QoS and to lower energy consumption of a User Equipment (UE). However, common centralized cloud can prolong overall application processing time due to high delay of data delivery from the UE to the cloud and back. To reduce data delivery delay, a concept known as Small Cell Cloud (SCC) can be adopted. The SCC is based on equipping small cell base stations by additional computing capacity and enabling distributed computation for mobile cloud application. For proper function of the SCC, offloaded computing tasks must be efficiently and uniformly distributed among all computing cells. In this paper, we design the algorithm for selection of the computing cells that increases user's satisfaction with experienced delay due to data transmission and computing. The algorithm selects the computing cell based on combination of users' requirements and the SCC status. As the results show, the proposed algorithm is able to provide higher satisfaction comparing to competitive approaches for all types of backhauls while the balancing of load is not significantly affected.

Some of the tools include traditional environments such as parallel virtual machine (PVM) and message passing interface (MPI). Tools that are more modern involve the World Wide Web, including Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP), Common Object Request Broker Architecture (CORBA), and JavaSpaces. Java's object oriented approach proves to be a desirable platform for developing paralleldistributedapplications. This paper describes the benefits and expected efficiencies of using the object-oriented approach of Java's Jini and the RMI and Jini based object oriented tuple environment provided by JavaSpaces.
