An effective rescheduling method takes an important role on improving the operational performance of a semiconductor wafer fabrication facility (fabs). In this paper, we propose a rescheduling method based on swarm intelligence. Firstly, we build a swarm intelligence based rescheduling model (SIRM) including an ant queen agent, multiple job ant agents and machine ant agents. Secondly, we design a rescheduling algorithm (CMRA) composed of three sub-algorithms: sub-algorithm-1 is used by an ant queen agent to transfer an existing static optimized scheduling plan into additional pheromones of job ant agents;sub-algorithm-2 and sub-algorithm-3 are used to convert scheduling related real-time information to dynamic pheromones of job ant agents and machine ant agents, respectively. Finally, a simplified semiconductor wafer fab model is used to verify and validate CMRA. The simulation results demonstrate that CMRA is superior to the original scheduling method to generate a static optimized scheduling plan with better performance on move, step and on-time operational due date rate under uncertain production environments.

Production scheduling and transportation strategies in manufacturing systems are two important topics in the fields of production or supply chain management. These two decisions are usually separately discussed in previous works. However, since a business may simultaneously face these two problems, it needs to develop a model to simultaneously deal with these two problems so as to minimize the total costs. This paper deals with a production scheduling and air-transportation problem with a single-machine and multi-delivery destinations. A heuristic approach is developed to deal with this problem. Computational results show that the heuristic approach can produce nearly optimal solutions for small-scale problem and can produce feasible solutions that commercial optimization software, Lingo, can not solve within a reasonable amount of time.

Emotion recognition from natural speech is a very challenging problem. The audio sub-challenge represents an initial step towards building an efficient audio-visual based emotion recognition system that can detect emotions for real life applications (i.e. human-machine interaction and/or communication). The SEMAINE database, which consists of emotionally colored conversations, is used as the benchmark database. This paper presents our emotion recognition system from speech information in terms of positive/negative valence, and high and low arousal, expectancy and power. We introduce a new set of features including Co-Occurrence matrix based features as well as frequency domain energy distribution based features. Comparisons between well-known prosodic and spectral features and the new features are presented. Classification using the proposed features has shown promising results compared to the classical features on both the development and test data sets.

Recent approaches to model-based manipulator control involve data-driven learning of the inverse dynamics relationship of a manipulator, eliminating the need for any knowledge of the system model. Ideally, such algorithms should be able to process large amounts of data in an online and incremental manner, thus allowing the system to adapt to changes in its model structure or parameters. Locally Weighted Projection Regression (LWPR) and other non-parametric regression techniques have been applied to learn manipulator inverse dynamics. However, a common issue amongst these learning algorithms is that the system is unable to generalize well outside of regions where it has been trained. Furthermore, learning commences entirely from 'scratch,' making no use of any a-priori knowledge which may be available. In this paper, an online, incremental learning algorithm incorporating prior knowledge is proposed. Prior knowledge is incorporated into the LWPR framework by initializing the local linear models with a first order approximation of the available prior information. It is shown that the proposed approach allows the system to operate well even without any initial training data, and further improves performance with additional online training.
