In order to improve the picking efficiency of cotton picking robotic arm in cotton field, this study analyses the spatial distribution of cotton plasmodesmata, optimizes the path planning problem of the picking arm by clustering, and gives an optimization solution method based on clustering algorithm, assigned distance weights and saliency features. The results show that, compared with sequential planning, stochastic planning and KNN clustering planning, the optimisation method proposed in this study can shorten the operation traversal time by 83.99%, 74.25% and 47.10%, respectively, and improve the operation efficiency of the picking arm by 6.25, 3.88 and 1.89 times, respectively, in the problem of the distribution of the same number of cottons. In conclusion, the path planning method of the optimisation method proposed in this paper can better plan the picking arm operation task, traverse all the cottons in a shorter time, and improve the operation efficiency. The results of the study can provide a reference for other picking robots picking task planning.
