Wireless sensor network based device-free localization (DFL) is now widely used in security and monitoring systems for indoor and outdoor areas. Multipath fading induced noises often degrade the performance of the DFL security system. To address this problem, the paper firstly presents a spatiotemporal radio tomographic imaging (RTI) approach for the enhancement of localization. Specifically, the task of RTI can be formulated into a sparse Bayesian learning problem. In addition, two robust sparse Byesian learning algorithms are developed to handle with the low signal-to-noise-ratio (SNR) with heterogeneous noise. The proposed spatiotemporal RTI approach performs much better than traditional RTI with lower average errors in our four diverse cluttered indoor scenes. The localization results also highlight advantages of applying proposed robust sparse Bayesian learning algorithms in addressing missing estimations and outlier errors, and finally improving indoor target DFL performance.

robots play an increasingly important role in social life, especially the front desk robots. But the front desk robots seldom handle business in reality unless they have proper functionalities for Human-robot Interaction (HRI). For enhancing the immersed sense in the interactive process, we consider the 3D image of the upper body of the operator in the remote control room as the upper body of front desk robots. However, it is a great challenge to transmit the 3D point cloud data in the way of remote interaction. The paper uses a simple method to deal with the problem of transmitting the 3D point cloud data and the idea of the method is to reduce the network data volume. In order to reduce the network data volume, we only consider that the 3D point cloud of interest will be transmitted. The filters are used to remove the noise and background of the 3D image, the segmentation algorithm will be used to acquire the 3D point cloud data of interest. The experiment result demonstrates that the method can reduce the network data volume and ensure high-quality image information. Thus, the method can reduce transmission time.

Access Control is becoming increasingly important for today ubiquitous systems. Sophisticated security requirements need to be ensured by authorization policies for increasingly complex and large applications. As a consequence, designers need to understand such policies and ensure that they meet the desired security constraints while administrators must also maintain them so as to comply with the evolving needs of systems and applications. These tasks are greatly complicated by the expressiveness and the dimensions of the authorization policies. It is thus necessary to provide policy designers and administrators with automated analysis techniques that are capable to foresee if, and under what conditions, security properties may be violated. In this paper, we consider this analysis problem in the context of the Role-Based Access Control (RBAC), one of the most widespread access control models. We describe how we design heuristics to enable an analysis tool, called asaspXL, to scale up to handle large and complex Administrative RBAC policies. We also discuss the capability of applying the techniques inside the tool to the analysis of location-based privacy policies. An extensive experimentation shows that the proposed heuristics play a key role in the success of the analysis tool over the state-of-the-art analysis tools. © Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany 2017.

Enterprises and governments around the world have been attempting to leverage intelligence from the community by making formally in-house database available to the public for analyzing. The released data was often "anonymized": sensitive attributes were removed from the dataset for privacy protection. However it is proved that masking sensitive attributes alone is not adequate for data protection. Differential privacy can be used to generate "synthetic dataset" that retain statistical properties of the original dataset and limit data-leaking risk at the same time, but there's always a trade-off between data privacy and utility. In this study we aggregate data counts across value with little counts to ease the problem of excessive error at the data value with small data count. Experiments show that K-aggregation has the potential to reduce error of count queries on value with smaller counts. Limitations of this approach are also discussed.

At present, various colleges and universities have extensively carried out practical training courses for industrial robots. If students are trained entirely in actual equipment, they will be limited by the number of venues, equipment, complex structure, operation frequency and use safety. This requires students to carry out the necessary safety operation simulation training before carrying out the actual operation. Virtual safety training can effectively simulate the operation of robots, and design corresponding safety hazards to prevent students from misoperation. In this paper, a safety training simulation system is designed for the teaching robot. It provides an effective solution for the safety training of the teaching robot.

Due to the rapid development of large scale and big data systems, attribute-based access control (ABAC) model has inaugurated a new wave in the research field of access control. In this paper, we propose a novel and comprehensive mechanism for enforcing attribute-based security policies stored in JSON documents. We build a lightweight grammar for conditional expressions that are the combination of subject, resource, and environment attributes so that the policies are flexible, dynamic and fine grained. Besides, we also present an extension from the ABAC model for privacy protection with the approach of purpose usage. The notion of purpose is associated with levels of data disclosure and constraints to support more fine-grained privacy policies. A prototype built for the proposed model using Java and MongoDB has also presented in the paper. The experiment is carried out to illustrate the relationship between the processing time for access decision and the complexity of policies. © Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany 2017.

Aiming at improving the low participation and inactive motion intention of patients in traditional gait rehabilitation training, an active gait rehabilitation training system is designed based on Virtual Reality (VR) technology. This project focuses on the design of the gait parameters real-time detecting system and the virtual reality rehabilitation training scene system. Based on an analysis of gait rehabilitation medicine theory, the lower-limb joints range of motion (ROM) and the plantar pressure of the affected limb are selected as the important gait parameters, thus a built-in sensing system is constructed with three inertial measurement units (IMU) and the multi-point force sensing resistors (FSR). Through the wireless Bluetooth communication interface, the lower-limb motor parameters of patients are transmitted into the virtual training games as the motion control signals for character driven in games and the scientific evidence for rehabilitation assessment. Error analysis and compensation method of sampled data are elaborated in this paper. The experiments are carried out about data acquisition, man-machine interaction, and functions of the rehabilitation training scenes. The results show that the active rehabilitation training system is able to assist patients with real-time interaction and immersive sensing and provides better visual feedback information to patients. It improves the training initiative as well as provides an effective means for nerve remodeling.

Magnetic control of drug carriers using systems with open-configurations is essential to enable scaling to the size of in vivo applications. In this study, we demonstrate motion control of paramagnetic microparticles in a low Reynolds number fluid, using a permanent magnet-based robotic system with an open-configuration. The microparticles are controlled in three-dimensional (3D) space using a cylindrical NdFeB magnet that is fixed to the end-effector of a robotic arm. We develop a kinematic map between the position of the microparticles and the configuration of the robotic arm, and use this map as a basis of a closed-loop control system based on the position of the microparticles. Our experimental results show the ability of the robot configuration to control the exerted field gradient on the dipole of the microparticles, and achieve positioning in 3D space with maximum error of 300 mu m and 600 mu m in the steady-state during setpoint and trajectory tracking, respectively.

Gamification refers to the use of game elements in a non-game context so as to increase users’ engagement and improve their experience. In recent years, gamification has been promoted by both practitioners and scholars as a superior alternative to traditional training methods in terms of improving students’ learning process and performance. In this paper, we attempted to verify the effectiveness of gamified training in a unique context, i.e., to help senior users learn new information technology. We proposed a theoretical model to explain why gamification can positively affect senior users’ learning experiences and outcomes. Through a laboratory experiment and a pilot study of 9 senior participants, we investigated whether or not gamification can really help improve senior people’s learning process and performance. This paper not only extends gamification studies to the context of senior citizen education, its empirical results can also help practitioners design better gamified applications for senior users. © Springer international Publishing AG 2017.

The rapidly emerging Internet of Things supports many diverse applications including environmental monitoring. Air quality, both indoors and outdoors, proved to be a significant comfort and health factor for people. This paper proposes a smart context-aware system for indoor air quality monitoring and prediction called DisCPAQ. The system uses data streams from air quality measurement sensors to provide real-time personalised air quality service to users through a mobile app. The proposed system is agnostic to sensor infrastructure. The paper proposes a context model based on Context Spaces Theory, presents the architecture of the system and identifies challenges in developing large scale IoT applications. DisCPAQ implementation, evaluation and lessons learned are all discussed in the paper. © 2017, Springer international Publishing AG.
