In this paper, we investigate the recommendation task in the most common scenario with implicit feedback (e.g., clicks, purchases). State-of-the-art methods in this direction usually cast the problem as to learn a personalized ranking on a set of items (e.g., webpages, products). The top-N results are then provided to users as recommendations, where the N is usually a fixed number pre-defined by the system according to some heuristic criteria (e.g., page size, screen size). There is one major assumption underlying this fixed-number recommendation scheme, i.e., there are always sufficient relevant items to users’ preferences. Unfortunately, this assumption may not always hold in real-world scenarios. In some applications, there might be very limited candidate items to recommend, and some users may have very high relevance requirement in recommendation. In this way, even the top-1 ranked item may not be relevant to a user’s preference. Therefore, we argue that it is critical to provide a dynamic-K recommendation, where the K should be different with respect to the candidate item set and the target user. We formulate this dynamic-K recommendation task as a joint learning problem with both ranking and classification objectives. The ranking objective is the same as existing methods, i.e., to create a ranking list of items according to users’ interests. The classification objective is unique in this work, which aims to learn a personalized decision boundary to differentiate the relevant items from irrelevant items. Based on these ideas, we extend two state-of-the-art ranking-based recommendation methods, i.e., BPRMF and HRM, to the corresponding dynamic-K versions, namely DK-BPRMF and DK-HRM. Our experimental results on two datasets show that the dynamic-K models are more effective than the original fixed-N recommendation methods. © Springer international Publishing AG 2017.

Router architectures advocating the use of static as well as dynamic virtual channel allocation have been proposed in the literature. However, the comparisons between the two have primarily focused on simulation set-up, largely using synthetic benchmarks. In this work, we present an apple-to-apple comparison of the dynamic and static VC allocation based routers for network performance. We compare the static VC allocation and dynamic VC allocation based routers for real and synthetic benchmarks as well as their implementations. The performance of the two routers has been compared for different routing algorithms, topologies, packet sizes and input port configurations. We observe that for all synthetic traffic patterns, except uniform traffic, static VC allocation based router outperforms the dynamic VC allocation based router. We also observe that in almost all PARSEC benchmark applications, except Blackscholes and Bodytrack with DOR routing, the simplified EVA router outperforms the dynamic VC allocating router. In our ASIC implementation, we observe a clock frequency improvement of 20.2% and power reduction of 19.6% for the static VC allocation based router over the dynamic VC allocation based router. © 2016 IEEE.

The multi-agent approach and technology for distributed scheduling, coordination and control of several UAV in group in order to perform joint tasks in real time was considered. Recently, research concerning condition monitoring and fault diagnosis of electrical machines have experienced extraordinarily dynamic activity. The increasing importance of these energy conversion devices and their widespread use in uncountable applications have motivated significant research efforts. Various faults are occurring in the stator as well as in the rotor of 3-phase squirrel cage induction motor such as bearing fault, broken rotor bar fault, air gap eccentricity etc.. This paper presents an analysis of fault occurring in the rotor bar of 3-phase squirrel cage induction motor by artificial intelligence method.

This paper presents the method to generate visual information to control robot manipulator in remote-site. Unlike the existing method, the proposed method uses Kinectfusion method for reconstructing a dense 3D environment. Based on the 3D data, we propose a visual guidance system such as guideline for alignment, auto-zooming and multi-view function. Then, we apply our method to hydraulic robot manipulator operating. We demonstrate that our visual guidance can help the operator to control the robot arm. © 2016 IEEE.

This paper deals with the path planning problem of a robot in a maze based on a parallel chemotaxis bio-inspired model. The goal is the effective search of a route, which can connect the starting position of an autonomous robot with a final requested destination. To find this route the robot has to take under consideration its geometry, elements of its environment such as movements' restrictions by obstacles and other characteristics of the topology. Chemotaxis is a term found in biology and refers to the movement of an organism in response to a chemical stimulus. Among numerous examples of such biological form here we get inspiration by Physarum polycephalum, since this slime mold has shown the ability to find the shortest path in a maze between two spots, where chemicals exist, by following the gradient of the chemo-attractants. Inspired by this behavior, chemotaxis will be used here to lead a robot to its desired destination inside a labyrinth. A device transmitting signals can be considered as an equivalent chemical source and the robot's receiver will follow the increased gradient of signal's amplitude. Moreover, an effective model, that has the ability to simulate such a problem reducing the calculations' complexity and in the same time mimicking the specific behavior, namely Cellular Automata ( CA) is coupled with chemotaxis. As a result, the design and implementation of a CA based bio-inspired algorithm is proposed and an E-Puck robot uses the exact algorithm to find the shortest path in different topologies as a proof of concept.

We discuss about the modeling technology in the object manipulation of the robot arm that is equipped with flexible finger joints. In recent years, flexible robot fingers are getting attention because of their handling capability and safety. However, the position and contact force of manipulated object take much non-linear uncertainty from the flexibility. In this paper, we propose the modeling framework of the position and contact force of the manipulated object. The proposed framework is an online learning method that is composed of motor babbling, dynamics learning tree (DLT), and is an element of-greedy method. In the experiments, the effectiveness of DLT was compared with neural network (NN), the effectiveness of the proposed framework was validated using a drawing task of a humanoid robot that equipped with flexible finger joints. The proposed framework was able to realize a fully automated incrementalmanipulation-learning.

Bearings are critical components in induction motor. Bearing fault is the most common fault in induction motor. Motor bearing data with single point faults and generalised roughness faults are used to validate the effectiveness of the proposed method for fault diagnosis.

Proofs of space (PoS) were suggested as more ecological and economical alternative to proofs of work, which are currently used in blockchain designs like Bitcoin. The existing PoS are based on rather sophisticated graph pebbling lower bounds. Much simpler and in several aspects more efficient schemes based on inverting random functions have been suggested, but they don’t give meaningful security guarantees due to existing time-memory trade-offs. In particular, Hellman showed that any permutation over a domain of size N can be inverted in time T by an algorithm that is given S bits of auxiliary information whenever (Formula presented). For functions Hellman gives a weaker attack with S2· T≈ N2 (e.g., S= T≈ N2/3). To prove lower bounds, one considers an adversary who has access to an oracle f: [ N] → [N] and can make T oracle queries. The best known lower bound is S· T∈ Ω(N) and holds for random functions and permutations. We construct functions that provably require more time and/or space to invert. Specifically, for any constant k we construct a function [N] → [N] that cannot be inverted unless Sk· T∈ Ω(Nk) (in particular, S= T≈ (Formula presented). Our construction does not contradict Hellman’s time-memory trade-off, because it cannot be efficiently evaluated in forward direction. However, its entire function table can be computed in time quasilinear in N, which is sufficient for the PoS application. Our simplest construction is built from a random function oracle g: [N] × [N] → [ N] and a random permutation oracle f: [N] → N] and is defined as h(x) = g(x, x′) where f(x) = π(f(x′)) with π being any involution without a fixed point, e.g. flipping all the bits. For this function we prove that any adversary who gets S bits of auxiliary information, makes at most T oracle queries, and inverts h on an ϵ fraction of outputs must satisfy S2· T∈ Ω(ϵ2N2). © international Association for Cryptologic Research 2017.
