We implemented a gaze algorithm for interacting with multiple observers as a precursor to a multi-party conversation system. By acknowledging multiple participants in a natural manner, we seek to set the stage for smoother and more effective human-robot conversations featuring proper turn-taking using attention shifts. The android robot EveR-4, developed at the Korea Institute of Industrial technology for human-robot interaction (HRI) applications was used. The robot wore a dress and was made up to replicate interacting naturally with a real woman as much as possible. Using a RGB-D camera, peoples faces and positions were tracked so that the robot's attention could be given to everyone appropriately. An importance value was assigned to each detected face based on the length of time it was detected and its distance to the robot. Facial expressions were made by the robot when people were seen to increase observers' sense of interaction. We observed peoples reactions to our implementation at an exhibition and made note of how we can improve the overall system to be more life-like and realistic.

The subpath planning problem (SPP) is a branch of path planning problem, which has widespread applications in automated manufacturing process as well as vehicle and robot navigation. This problem aims to find the shortest path or tour subject to covering a set of given subpaths. By casting SPP to a graph routing problem, we propose a deterministic 2-approximation algorithm finding near optimal solutions, which runs in O(n3) time.

The irruption of computer-based technology in social interaction has negatively affected the way in which elderly people interact with their family members, because they are, in some cases, reluctant to adopt new digital media. Given that literature suggests that seniors spend a significant part of their day watching television, we argue that Smart TV applications can be an effective way to provide them access to ambient assisted living services. This paper reports the design and use of a Smart TV-based application that promotes social interaction between older adults and their family members through social media. The system runs on a LED screen, extended with smart functionalities provided by Google Chromecast. The social interaction features provided by the system include exchanging email messages and sharing photos that are automatically retrieved from the accounts of family members in social media feeds. The system was evaluated with a group of expert users as well as with a sample of end-users. Older adults participating in the study praised the new possibilities offered by the prototype application as a way to better engage with family-generated content, thus facilitating their social integration.

In this study, we aimed to develop a dragonfly-like flapping robot with four wings and achieve advanced flight such as hovering and sudden turn. We developed a two-wings-flapping-robot that links the flapping motion moving the wing up and down and feathering motion twisting the wing and perform at the same time. Next, we investigated the performance of the developed robot whether it's possible to control it. In the end, in order to control the vertical of the aircraft we modeled the robot and simulated.

Efficient implementations of public-key cryptographic algorithms on general-purpose computing devices, facilitate the applications of cryptography in communication security. Existing solutions work in two different directions: implementations on GPUs achieve high throughput but great latency, while those on CPUs are with low throughput and small latency. Intel Xeon Phi is the first highly parallel coprocessor of Many Integrated Core (MIC) architecture, with up, to 61 cores and one 512-bit Vector Processing Unit (VPU) in each core, which offers the potential to achieve both high throughput and small latency. In this paper, we propose a vector-oriented Montgomery multiplication design based on vector carry propagation chain (VCPC) method to fully exploit the computing power of vector instructions on Intel Xeon Phi. Two key features of our design sharply reduce the number of instructions: (1) organizing the additions in Montgomery multiplication to be four VCPCs for saving the overhead of handling carry bits;(2) computing the intermediate scalar variable q in every round without breaking the flow of VCPCs. Furthermore, we offer the optimal Montgomery multiplication implementation of our design on Intel Xeon Phi, which make VPUs fully pipelined and maintain carry bits in vector mask registers. Based on the above, we implement RSA named PhiRSA and evaluate it on Intel Xeon Phi 7120P. For 1024, 2048 and 4096-bit RSA, PhiRSA performs 258,370, 41,803 and 5,358 decryptions per second, and the latencies are 0.94, 5.84 and 45.54, ms, respectively. These results achieve 4.1 to 8.5 times performance of the existing RSA implementations on Intel Xeon Phi, exhibit high throughput comparable to those on GPUs but with much less parallel tasks, and small latency comparable to those on CPUs. © 2017, Springer international Publishing AG.

Compared with 3D mesh data, unstructured point cloud data lack adjacency relationship between points, which only contain geometric coordinates and little information. This paper focuses on the research of characteristics of unstructured point cloud detection algorithm. We put forward the multiscale 3D Harris feature point detection algorithm, which uses iteration strategy to select the optimal Harris response value in multiple scales. Compared with the classical 3D Harris feature point detection algorithm for mesh data, our algorithm can fully use the local information of point cloud models to detect feature point on point cloud models. It is very robust to rotation transformation of point clouds and noise.

In case of operating the robot in a real environment, its behavior will be probabilistic due to the slight transition of the robot’s state or the error of the action that is taken at each time. We have previously reported that prediction of the state-action pair, is the prediction method to link the state and action of the robot for future the state and the action. From this standpoint, we have proposed the method that decides the action that tends to take in the future. In this paper, we will try to introduce the statistical approach to the prediction of the stateaction pair. From this standpoint, we propose the method that decides the action that tends to take in the future, for the current action. In the proposed method, we will calculate the existence probability of the state and the action in the future, according to the normal distribution. © Springer international Publishing Switzerland 2016.

Fuzzy Logic is a investigative control system method that contributes to performance in systems. It covers almost every electronic circuit, very large computer networks, process automation to household gadgets. It can be used very effectively to develop a better hardware and software combination. Fuzzy logic provides us the flexibility to jump to an unambiguous result to a blurred input. Its approach enables us to emboss human like thinking which is in certain cases based upon a blurred input;onto a machine. While designing a control system, controller selection and tuning of its parameters must be taken into account. Because of Fuzzy PID control it is now possible to design a control system which is capable of taking decisions faster and certain based on blurred input, just like Humans. In this Paper, a comparison of fuzzy PID controller and Conventional PID controller is done for the most complete case of robotic applications. The Fuzzy-PID performance is summarized in terms of its input and output variables, which allows us to analyse the Fuzzy-PID response and to compare it with the Conventional PID. Due to drastic growth of mobile users in recent days, mobile business has brought a paradigm shift and expanded its application areas with mass production of various mobile business fields. Consequently, diverse attempts are being made in order to analyze the mobile business for its successful performance. In this work, we propose performance metrics to measure the performance of mobile business and suggest the enhanced performance measurement model for analyzing the mobile business using proposed performance metrics. The performance metrics are categorized into three types, the acquisition metrics, the engagement metrics, and the crawling metrics according to the type of measure. We automatically collected the raw data from mobile applications and the crawling data from mobile market in order to measure performance metrics of mobile business and statistically analyzed the three performance metrics above using big data processing system based on cloud environment. In this work, we suggest the enhanced performance measurement model in mobile business environment and present the results analyzed with the proposed model as case study. The proposed model should support efficient decision making in mobile business field such as mobile marketing and mobile commerce.
