PREFACE CACRE 2018 was held in Chengdu, China during Jul. 19-22, 2018. CACRE 2018 was organized by Sichuan University and HKSME. The conference provides a useful and wide platform both for displaying the latest research and for exchanging of research results and thoughts in broad automation, control, roboticsengineering, Artificial Intelligence and other topics. The participants of the conference were from almost every part of the world, with background of either academia or industry, even well-known enterprise. The success and prosperity of the conference is reflected by high level of the papers received. The proceeding is a compilation of the accepted papers which represents an interesting outcome of the conference. This book covers 3 chapters: automation Technology and Sensing Methods; Advanced control and Intelligent Algorithms; Intelligent robotics and Mechatronic Systems. We would like to acknowledge all of those who supported CACRE 2018. Each individual and institutional help was very important for the success of this conference. The dual active bridge (DAB) has become a crucial interface element in today's sophisticated systems. Renewable energy sources produce DC power, which is then stored in batteries, ultra-capacitors, and other energy storage devices. DAB is a crucial part of power exchange between two different buses because of its galvanic separation and bidirectional power transfer capabilities. The operation of the DAB is compatible with a broad range of input voltages and output loads. The creation of DAB is covered in most works. The real-time decision-making potential brought by edge computing is disrupting industrial automation, transcending the speed-and-bandwidth limitations of traditional cloud computing. By enabling on-site data processing, edge computing effectively low-latency and responsive applications, e.g., predictive maintenance, process optimization, and autonomous robotics. This paper discusses edge computing architecture and deployment models, its hardware and software components, and networking infrastructure. The objectives to review are to analyze how edge computing facilitates real-time decision-making in automated industrial processes. The discourse is then fully addressed around the different core technologies, advantages, concerns, real-life instances, and future trends toward increasing efficiencies, lowering latencies, and making smart manufacturing possible. Integration of AI and machine learning at the edge levels make real-time analytics, thus improving efficiency and agility. Key challenges under consideration include security, scalability, and economic impact, along with their applications in the real world. Future direction encompasses AI-based analytics, energy-efficient edge devices, and seamless interoperability poised to change its status from enabler to disrupter concerning industrial automation.

To satisfy the grinding requirements of all kinds of worm tooth surface, a novel CNC worm grinding machine is demonstrated in this paper. Based on the generating theory, the mathematical models of the worm tooth surface is developed. A novel structure of the worm grinding machine is proposed based on the virtual center distance manufacturing principle, and a seven-axis four-linkage CNC worm grinding machine is developed to verify the practicability of the new structure. A sample of hourglass worm tooth surface is ground on this novel CNC worm grinding machine, the accuracy of hourglass worm tooth surface is certificated by the accuracy detection and contact area test, which proves that the accuracy of this sample is up to level 5. This study is expected to provide a theoretical foundation and experimental support for the grinding of hourglass worm tooth surface.

Presently, there exist few 3D imaging methods that can simultaneously acquire both 3-dimensional spatial information and material information of the environment by a single shot and single camera. Moreover, they cannot meet the need for high efficiency with low energy consumption and compact shape at the same time. This paper proposes a multispectral 3D sensing system for single frame monocular equipment that performs synchronal acquisition of both visual image and depth information of the scene. The system uses the snapshot narrow-band multispectral longitudinal dispersion enhanced optical imaging system to obtain multiple spectral band images with different defocusing degrees and carries the depth recovery by comparing and analyzing the defocusing amount of each spectral band and the differential signal formed between spectral bands. This system provides a compact real-time 3D vision system with low energy consumption, high robustness, and strong endurance. It is suitable for unmanned aerial vehicles, aerospace, robots, and other automobiles equipment to navigate in both indoor and outdoor non-structured environments.

The 3D virtual scenes are widely used in different applications, such as visual simulation, augmented reality and virtual reality and so on. For reducing the time consumption with 3D modeling, we propose an improved method of 3D scene reconstruction based on SfM. By taking the video streaming as input, we put forward a feature similarity determination strategy to extract keyframes, and utilize a dense algorithm to improve the model accuracy. Moreover, the method appends 3D model filtering to remove the redundancy of the result models. We demonstrate our method by testing the time cost and effect of different videos and datasets. Results illustrate that our method is practical and available.
