It is pointed out that there are two key issues that should be tackled deeply if the wire-driven parallel suspension system is introduced to be used in forced oscillation experiment in low-speed wind tunnels for obtaining dynamic derivatives, i.e., the implementation of the single-degree-of-freedom oscillation of the model of aircrafts as well as the accurate identification of the dynamic derivatives. In order to solve the two key issues, the related scientific and technological problems are summarized, as following: (1) In the premise of satisfaction of the desired requirements of forced oscillation experiments, the mechanism design of the wire-driven parallel suspension system is given.(2) The strength, stiffness, dynamic characteristics, measuring precision and control precision should be satisfied as well.(3) Also the aerodynamic interference of the system should be eliminated as much as possible. The coupled fluid-solid interaction between the wires and the streamline flow should be tackled well and the suitable 6-element force-measuring system to measure the force and moment of the streamline flow should be used. © 2011 Springer-Verlag.

The most frequent cause of defect in the mandible is tumor-related surgery. Larger defects cause severe morbidity due to disturbances in function and esthetics. A fibular free flap is one way of filling a bony hole in either the upper or lower jaw. In this study, a new method combining preoperative planning and rapid prototyping for mandible fibula free flap reconstruction after preoperative planning was made based on Mimics software simulating surgery on a workstation. The preparatory work of surgery is divided into two parts: software simulation and model building. During software simulation the authors were able to choose the best site for the osteotomy regarding circulation and the model building can increase the precision and speed of treatment. A description of our surgical approach is presented and is supplemented by an illustrative case. © 2011 Springer-Verlag.

We derive analytic solution of the particular case of the optimal quantum measurement between pure state and mixed state of the multi-level system. In order to figure out the physical essence rather than the facial complex mathematical expression, we restrict the system to be 3-level and the mixed state to be a diagonal matrix to get a obvious result. Generally the optimal solution is determined by the 9 free elements of the transformation unitary matrix. To our surprise, the results actually are so simple that we just have to search 3-dimensional Hilbert space for the optimal solutions. However, the optimal solutions depend on the relative scale among the diagonal elements. Some guessing analytical solution of the optimal target function is given, but the general cases of transformation between mixed state and pure state without imposing these restrictions is still unavailable. © 2011 Springer-Verlag.

This paper proposes an efficient training approach for support vector regression, called weighted constraints SVR (WCSVR), which will improve the ability to learn from the noisy samples and overcome the overfitting problem. In the WCSVR learning process, the object function is modified by introducing a weight for each new training sample and the corresponding regularization term. The weighted constraints value to each input sample is confirmed according to its kernel Mahalanobis distance to the center of the dataset. These parameters help us to apply the importance of samples for eliminating the effect of the outliers in the dataset. The overall experiments show prominence of out proposed method in comparison with the standard SVR. © 2011 Springer-Verlag.

Based on the numerical analysis function of ANSYS, the motion of the standard aircraft driven by WDPSS-8 (Wire-driven Parallel Suspension System with 8 Wires) in the laminar flow is simulated by the fluid-solid interaction function. Firstly, the deformations of the wires simulated by beam4 element without wind pressure agree with those of the theoretical results. Secondly, by solving the solid field in ANSYS and analyzing the solution to forward kinematics of WDPSS-8, it is found that the wires sustain the wind pressure against wind and the aircraft tends to move along the wind. So the wires in simulation bend against wind. It is also demonstrated that by increasing the wire axial tension, the coupled fluid-solid interaction phenomena can be eliminated. Finally, we analyzed the wind field affected by WDPSS-8. On the one hand, by observing the wind vector graphs and the pressure distributed in the wind field, WDPSS-8 is superior to the rigid support in reducing the aero-dynamical interference. On the other hand, by analyzing the wind velocity and pressure on and under the wing, it is found that the simulation is fit to the flying state of the aircraft in the air. © 2011 Springer-Verlag.

3D reconstruction for freehand 3D ultrasound is a challenging issue because the recorded B-scans are not only sparse, but also non-parallel. Both conventional volume and surface reconstruction methods can't reconstruct sparse data efficiently while they are arbitrarily oriented in 3D space. We developed a new surface reconstruction method for freehand 3D ultrasound based on variational implicit function. In the new method, we first constructed on- & off-surface constraints from the segmented contours of all recorded B-scans, then used a variational interpolation technique to get a single implicit function in 3D. Finally, the implicit function was evaluated to extract the zero-valued surface as reconstruction result. One phantom experiment was conducted to assess our variational surface reconstruction method, and the experiment results have shown that the new method is capable of reconstructing surface smoothly from sparse contours which can be arbitrarily oriented in 3D space. © 2011 Springer-Verlag.

When creating a multi-view 3D image with one camera, the camera has to be moved from one viewpoint to another viewpoint. It would take a long time and high cost, and it can not get the image of a moving object. In this paper, we proposed the method for capturing a multi-view 3D image by one step. In order to capture a multi-view image, the lenticular lens is used in our proposed system. The captured multi-view image became reverse when we use the lenticular lens, it needs to perform reversal processing, and it also needs to calculate the best observation distance. When displaying a multi-view image, 3D image is possible to display using the same lens. As an experiment result, we got the multi-view image by our proposal system. And when we laid the multi-view image under a lenticular lens, the multi-view 3D image was confirmed. © 2011 Springer-Verlag.
