In this paper, a hybrid fractional order fuzzy PID controller structure has been studied for fractional order systems. In addition to the fractional order integral and derivative terms, this structure replaces the proportional part of the fractional order PID (FOPID) structure with an interval type-2 fuzzy neural network. In this structure, the fractional order derivative action is implemented on the process output to avoid sudden changes in the set-point. Moreover, the IT2-fuzzy neural network parameters are adapted online using the gradient descent algorithm. Hence, the structure can be more adaptable to system uncertainties, and it can give an observed improvement in the system's time response. By using two different fractional-order examples, simulation studies via five test cases are performed to assess the effectiveness of the controller structure. Moreover, the stabilization problem of the inverted pendulum system is performed to evaluate the developed structure. Furthermore, comparative results with conventional fractional-order PID controller and fractional order IT2- fuzzy controller structures are conducted. © 2023 IEEE.

Advanced adiabatic compressed air energy storage (AA-CAES) is a key technology to support a high proportion of new energy grid-connected, with flexible wide operating conditions and superior dynamic response performance. The current AA-CAES power plant is only in rated operation and cannot fully utilize the above advantages. The AA-CAES system needs to have fast and accurate power tracking capabilities in order to cope with the demands of variable operating scenarios where load levels and storage pressures are constantly changing. In this paper, the power tracking performance of the generation side of the AA-CAES system under variable operating conditions is investigated. Two power tracking control improvement methods (improved throttle valve operating flow characteristics, variable parameter PID control) are proposed for two typical AA-CAES systems: large-capacity gas storage, constant-pressure operation, and small-capacity gas storage, sliding-pressure operation. The simulation results show that the power response rate of the power generation side of the improved AA-CAES system is significantly improved, which lays a theoretical foundation for the construction of grid-friendly AA-CAES power plants. © 2023 IEEE.

The development of smart grid technology for more effective and sustainable energy management has been prompted by the growing use of renewable energy sources like solar and wind power. In order to integrate renewable energy sources into the grid, power electronics and control approaches are essential. The purpose of this study is to examine the pros and cons of the various power electronics and control approaches now in use for integrating renewable energy sources into smart grids. The development of smart grid technology for more effective and sustainable energy management has been facilitated by the use of renewable energy sources like solar and wind power. When it comes to incorporating renewable energy sources into the grid, power electronics and control approaches play a crucial role. This article provides a comprehensive analysis of the literature on the topic of renewable energy integration in smart grids, with a particular focus on power electronics and control strategies. The study is based on a review of relevant literature and an analysis of the benefits and drawbacks of each method. Efficiency, dependability, cost-effectiveness, scalability, and compatibility with various renewable energy sources are some of the characteristics included in the comparison study. The research shows that each method has advantages and disadvantages, and that the choice of method is context-specific. The work has significant significance for the field of electrical and computer engineering and aids in the development of more efficient and sustainable energy management systems for the future smart grid. © 2023 IEEE.

The principal objective of this project was to solve the problem of the controlling attitude balance for the cube to achieve actuator saturation. For the past three decades, studies of attitude balance for the cube have ignored the impact of actuator constraint. Firstly, a novel non-linear saturation function is constructed that has the characteristics of being continuous and smooth. Secondly, based on the proposed saturation function, a non-linear proportional-derivative (PD) saturated control (NPDSC) is developed to tackle the attitude balance problem for cube formulated by lagrange equation. It is proven that the designed NPDSC can assure that the system of cube is globally asymptotically stabilized. The control method offers the benefits of a straightforward and concise format, efficient calculations, and the absence of any specific numerical value associated with the system. Another feature is that the proposed regulation guarantees the output of the output generator is maintained within the rated range, so it completely avoids instability and degradation or unimaginable movement of the system, avoiding excessive output due to overheating or structural failure. The proposed control method actually provides an efficient solution for cube systems with output saturation. The simulation results provide evidence of the feasibility of this approach. © 2024 SPIE. The future power system is anticipated to have a significant amount of distributed generation (DG) interfaced with inverters. Major concern is to control the inverters and provide stability to the microgrid system. Traditionally, the multiloop and single loop control topologies are extensively reported as to form grid-forming control in literature. Despite having so similar, the stability characteristics and dynamic performance of multi loop and single loop control are different. Virtual synchronous generator (VSG), has also been acknowledged as a powerful tool for microgrid control that helps the islanded power electronic systems through inertia and damping support. This paper explores the implementation of an adaptive VSG on the grid-forming multi-loop and single loop control configurations. A small signal stability model has been developed for both the configurations, based on which the stability assessment is performed. The same has also been verified through simulation studies as well. A typical microgrid, having three phase inverter with constant DC voltage input and an LC filter, connecting to the load through distribution line is considered for analysis. Detailed simulation studies are carried out in the MATLAB/SIMULINK environment in discretized mode to verify the effectiveness of both the control loops, at different loading conditions. Results demonstrate that the single loop control with reduced order and complexity is as efficient as the double loop control. Additionally, the suggested control technique has successfully undergone a processor-in-loop (PIL) validation utilizing a TI C2000 microcontroller. © 2023 IEEE.

With the integration of large-scale photovoltaic (PV) power generation into the distribution network, its uncertain output can cause unexpected voltage fluctuation and may increase power loss, which seriously affects the operation of the network. To solve this problem, this paper proposes a hierarchical voltage/Var control (VVC) method that takes into account intra-day reactive power dispatch of PV inverters and real-time local control together via hourly optimization of inverter droop control functions. Firstly, a modeling method of a five-segment Q-V droop function is proposed. The bilinear constraints in this model could bring a large computational burden. Thus, based on a convex and concave procedure, they are relaxed and reformulated, forming a penalty convex-concave model. Moreover, a stochastic optimization method is adopted to deal with the uncertainty of PV outputs and loads. Then, in the real-time stage, the bus voltage is regulated locally by PV inverters based on the optimized droop model. The proposed hierarchical inverter-based VVC method is tested on a 33-bus network to verify its performance and high efficiency. © 2024 IEEE.

Bipedal robots with small and point feet find it difficult to balance instantaneously due to underactuation, but can be relatively easy to control over the time scale of a step. Thus, models of step-to-step dynamics provide an effective means for the development of step-to-step controllers. Such models are analytically intractable because they are obtained from integrating nonlinear equations of motion. Our hypothesis is that obtaining approximations of such models can be effective for real-time computations of control inputs. We use partial feedback linearization to reduce the system dimensions for the step-to-step map. We formulate and solve an optimal control problem with the approximations to compute control for tracking a reference velocity and walking on stepping stones. These solutions demonstrate the need for bipedal robots to achieve specific control objectives, such as walking speed and foot placement, in order to navigate through restricted environments such as the stepping stones. Based on the biological data of the Dutch warmblood horse, the motion mechanism of the horse during walking was analyzed in depth. By constructing the S-3-S4RS spatial mechanism model, the biological data of the horse's torso position, gait footing point, and leg motion were transformed into the kinematic parameters of the moving platform posture, articulation point position, and leg mechanism in the model. The aim was to explore the coordination mechanism between the joints of the horse during walking and to reveal the relationship between its CoM movement trajectory, joint drive angle and biogeometric dimensions. An evaluation model on the motion of the biological horse is established to analyze and evaluate the motion patterns of quadrupedal organisms, providing a theoretical basis for the kinematic analysis of quadrupedal animals and quadrupedal robots. © 2024 ACM.

Since robot-assisted surgical systems incorporate many of the advantages of minimally invasive surgery, such as decreased postoperative trauma, faster recoveries, and lower overall treatment costs, they are increasingly being used in medical procedures. Using these robotic systems, surgeons can work in areas where traditional surgical tools would be impractical, such as tiny;tight the capabilities of a human hand as an operator are typically somewhat restricted. The act of movement itself helps to improve this sort of dexterity. Robotic scaling, which converts the operator's massive motions into the tiny actions of the robotic end effector. For instance, the Da Vinci System's EndoWrist end effector tool. These systems' drawbacks include the expensive cost of surgery, the lack of feedback, and the surgeon's operating mobility. The surgeon isn't inside the patient during these surgeries. Human tissue won't resist cutting. Thus, one can damage healthy tissues or break a thread by sewing too hard. A new system was developed in this study using ustepper (an industrial palletizer robot), EndoWrist needle and a CNC milling machine. Industrial robotics were merged with the medical robotics to bring more benefits. The developed surgical robot has more movement options for the surgeons to operate in the human body. Cambridge Medical Robot (CMR) and DLR Surgical Robot System's characteristics were studied and merged together into this design. Industrial and medical robotics have collaborated to create this particular design. © 2023 IEEE.
