In this paper we present a method that can balance a robotic bicycle at zero velocity. Based on our earlier work of nonlinear bicycle dynamic model, we developed a novel linearized dynamic equation near large steer angle. The newly developed linear equation is analyzed for its stability and a LQR controller is designed for balancing the robotic bicycle at zero velocity. We also built a prototype robotic bicycle to verify our design. Both theoretical work and experiment shows the robotic bicycle can achieve its balance at zero velocity with our LQR controller without using either fly-wheel or any other devices that provides roll torque.

In order to realize the intelligentization of downhole natural gas intelligent gas production technology, a set of downhole intelligent throttles suitable for remote control was designed. This article describes the mechanical structure design and remote-control mechanism of smart throttle. Using ANSYS finite element analysis software, the mechanical structure of underground intelligent throttle is analyzed and the fluid field of key parts of throttle is analyzed. According to the finite element analysis results, the mechanical design of the throttle satisfies the requirements and can provide equipment support for the implementation of downhole natural gas intelligent gas recovery technology. Finally, through the simulated well test, the feasibility of the throttle design was verified.

For traditional detection method used in expressway tunnel has the disadvantages of low detection speed, high risk and cannot realize disease information management, a method of design, implement and field test of vehicle-based experiment prototype for expressway tunnel intelligent detection is proposed in this paper. Firstly, based on the demands of expressway tunnel detection, the performance indicators of tunnel intelligent detection system are developed, which include detection speed, detection accuracy, visual system depth and so on. Then, for the visual system, inertial navigation system and mechanical system, an application-oriented method of hardware calculation, selection and design for tunnel detection system is proposed. Finally, according to the above conclusions, the vehicle-based experiment prototype is developed, and field test is carried out in expressway tunnel. The engineering practice shows that the developed tunnel intelligent detection system can collect tunnel surface image quickly and high quality, and the research results laid a foundation for tunnel intelligent system developing, image processing and disease intelligent identifying in the next step.

An approach to the analysis and design of continuous T-S fuzzy control system is proposed in this paper. The fuzzy logic controller has two consequents in each rule. They are numerator part and denominator part and are equivalent to any proper practical controller. It is shown that the overall closed-loop system behaves like an uncertain polytope of polynomials and the system stability can be checked by using some graphical robust stability criteria. The complex process on finding a common Lyapunov function to guarantee the system stability can be omitted. An illustrative example will be given to demonstrate the ability of the design procedure in the proposed approach.

An active device will however need an external power source, which will result in a heavier, more sizeable device;it is hence essential that power requirements and energy consumption are minimal. The use of relatively light passive elements such as springs can alter these parameters without having negative effects on weight and size. In this investigation the effects of different possible spring layouts on a rotary active ankle orthosis intended for hemiplegic patients are assessed based on power and energy requirements. Different layouts vary in the presence or absence of series and parallel springs and also their preload and wherever possible offset. The effect of these springs, when optimal, and the impact of their layout is evaluated in order to yield an efficient rotary ankle orthosis actuator. It is shown that a series elastic actuator (SEA) reasonably decreases both power and energy consumption but parallel elasticity has greater impact on reducing peak power. A plantarflexion parallel spring effects neither energy nor peak power, whereas a dorsiflexion parallel spring offers either lower peak power or less energy consumption. Combining a SEA or parallel elastic actuator with a parallel or dorsiflexion parallel spring offers acceptable power and energy requirements.

Traditional PID control is widely used in industry due to its advantages of stability. The traditional PID controller is very difficult to obtain satisfied control performance for complex nonlinear systems with uncertainties. Fuzzy control approach has better anti-interference ability than traditional PID control method, and thus it can be used to deal with many complex nonlinear systems. In this paper, a comparative study for the control performance and anti-interference ability of traditional PID, type-1 and type-2 fuzzy control approaches are considered. By numerical simulations, the performance of fuzzy control is better than that of traditional PID in some specific situations, and the anti-interference performance of type-2 fuzzy control is better than type-1 fuzzy control and traditional PID control for a certain nonlinear problem.

The modeling and implementation of a high-gain coupled-inductor switched-capacitor converter (CISCC) is presented by combining a pulse-width-modulation-based (PWM) controller for realizing step-up DC-DC conversion and closed-loop regulation. The power part from supply Vs to output Vo is composed of two sub-circuits: (i) a coupled-inductor booster (CI booster: a coupled inductor with turn ratio n and a clamping capacitor) and (ii) a three-stage switched-capacitor tripler (SC tripler: three pumping capacitors), so as to provide a total step-up gain up to 3(n+2-D)/(1-D) at most, where D is the duty cycle of charging this inductor (e.g. Vo can reach 38.71 times voltage of Vs theoretically as D=0.58, n=4). The control part consists of (i) sawtooth wave generator, (ii) non-overlapping circuit, and (iii) a PWM compensator, in order to realize the timing operation of topologies as well as enhance the regulation capability for different reference or source/loading variation. The modeling and some theoretical analysis are included, and the performance of CISCC is simulated and verified experimentally on the implemented prototype circuit to show the efficacy of this scheme.
