Crop cultivation plays an essential role in the agricultural field. Presently, the loss of food is mainly due to infected crops, which reflexively reduces the production rate. Health monitoring and disease detection on plant is very critical for sustainable agriculture. It is very difficult to monitor the plant diseases manually. It requires a tremendous amount of work as well as expertise. Hence, an intelligent crop health assessment system using deep learning based on Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) was proposed. The steps involved are image acquisition, pre-processing, data augmentation and classification. Image of the plant is captured using a smartphone with a camera. Captured images are pre-processed. data augmentation has been done on the training data set. Implementation of CNN model yielded an accuracy of 85%. The model has been tested against a set of images collected manually.

Long-term monitoring systems based on wearable devices and local devices with computational capabilities -smartphone, smartwatch- could be used in the prevention of cardiovascular disease in risk subjects or during the follow-up for increasing the quality of life. In this paper we propose a lightweight solution that firstly exploits compressive sensing for locally reducing the amount of raw data, and successively employs a detection algorithm operating directly on the compressed domain for extracting only meaningful information to send at the medical staff. Performances of the proposed solution have been assessed under different conditions. Results show that the algorithm is able of identifying with a good precision and sensitivity the ECG features -QRS complexes and T, P waves- even with high compression ratios of about 20 - 50%.

Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) has been a precious tool for humanitarian demining. The GPR scans the ground and delivers a three-dimensional matrix representing three types of data: Ascan, Bscan and Cscan. The Ascan data represents the response from a reflection signal of a pulse emitted by the GPR at a given position. In the proposed landmine detection method, the Ascan data is normalized and then classified using Kernel based One Class Support Vector Machine (OSVM). In fact, OSVM has the main advantage of handling unbalanced data, where is not the case for multiclass SVM. Our landmine detection method was tested and evaluated on the MACADAM database which is composed of 11 scenarios of landmines and 3 scenarios of inoffensive objects (wood stick, SodaCan, pine, stone). Experimental results have shown the superiority of the RBF kernel OSVM over others kernel functions based multiclass SVM in term of classification accuracy especially, as landmine data is unbalanced.

Laser Induced Fluorescence (LIF) sensor is one of the most sensitive approaches available for a variety of analytical applications, such as determination of nitrogen content of plant leaves, detection of chlorophyll content in water, etal. As a core instrumental requirements of real time LIF sensor, signalprocessing system is used to store effective processing and identification algorithms in a short time. By analyzing the working principle of LIF sensor in detail, a novel platform of signalprocessing system used in LIF sensor is proposed in this paper. The design solutions and hardware architecture of the system are described in this paper, include Digital signal Processor (DSP), data transmission block, and memory block. Several steps of signalprocessing methods are proposed, according to the characteristic of LIF sensor. At last, an application of using the signalprocessing system designed in this paper for measuring chlorophyll content in plant leaves is shown.

In this paper, we study the effect of different types of distances on the group to see the similarities between objects. The unique trait of birdsong provides a method for the investigation of bird population based on birdcall recognition. Due to the living habit and geographical distribution of bird species, the recognition of birdcall might be affected by birds' location. The effect of location on a different type of models' prediction performance is investigated in this paper. This research implements three types of predictive models convolutional neural network (CNN), recurrent neural network (RNN), and support vector machine (SVM) - over three countries: Japan, Sweden, and Norway. signalprocessing is used for pre-processing of the dataset to obtain Mel Frequency Cepstrumas, the input of three models. Based on the evaluation of model performances, including training time, accuracy, AUC score, F1 score, recall, and precision, the best model of each country is selected: SVM for Japan with 93% accuracy, CNN for Sweden and Norway with 98% and 94% accuracy respectively. The difference in the performance of models in different countries indicates that a country-based prediction of birdsong using varied models may help improve the performance of birdcall recognition.
