This research investigates slice-based architecture for biometrics. A service slice is an aggregation of resources for a specific biometric objective; e.g., speaker verification. Slice-based architecture is attractive as a framework for modeling service-oriented biometric applications. In order for it to be usable, slice-based architecture must adequately address privacy, security, and standard based interoperability. We propose to incorporate secure computation mechanism and BioAPI standard into slice-based architecture. We discuss why secure computation is information-theoretic secure, and how it can be used to realize a private computation for the exchange of biometric data between two parties in slice-based architecture. For proof-of-concept, open source software is developed for realizing a privacy preserving voice verification prototype based on slice-based architecture, and will be released for experimentation by the public. The result of our initial experimentation is reported.

The principle for detecting ultra-high energy neutrinos acoustically is briefly introduced. Current activities in this field are numerous and many have been reported at this conference. They include, e.g., the co-deployment of acoustic sensors in optical Cherenkov neutrino telescopes, the analysis of acoustic data from the existing hydrophone arrays for calibration and noise determination purposes, the design of bespoke acoustic sensors and the development of signalprocessing techniques. A digest of the status of current acoustic detection projects is presented. The work of the authors referenced in this text can be found elsewhere in these proceedings. (C) 2009 Elsevier B.V. The response time required in speaker identification systems mainly depend on the amount of enrolled speakers. Thus, how to reduce the computational cost, when evaluating large speaker databases, is the key problem. Thus, a ldquobag of codesrdquo algorithm is proposed, which can generate speaker models by estimating the probability distribution of each code in speech data. Experiments prove that the new configuration has substantially lower complexity than commonly used methods with comparable identification accuracy, overcoming one bottleneck in the development of speaker identification research.

Recent research has underscored the potential role of analysis of EEG signals as indicators of cognitive decline. In addition, we have also seen the emergence of embedded systems that are capable of analyzing biological signals in real time to track a number of physiological variables and make accurate conclusions about the individual's physiological status and health. This paper presents the design of an embedded system which is capable of tracking relevant bio-signals from the person in real time and facilitating a dependable decision making process that provides alerts for potential brain activity changes. The design focuses around the use of sensors and a processing element. It incorporates the use of electroencephalography (EEG) and oxygen saturation (SpO2) signals. As an early proof-of-concept, our system collects data from the sensors, performs initial processing and provides the framework to compute significant physiological variables.

Affect sensing by machines has been argued as an essential part of next-generation human-computer interaction (HCI). To this end, in the recent years a large number of studies have been conducted, which report automatic recognition of emotion as a difficult, but feasible task. However most effort has been put towards offline analysis, whereas to date only few applications exist, which are able to react to a user's emotion in real-time. In response to this deficit we introduce a framework we call Smart Sensor Integration (SSI), which considerably jump-starts the development of multimodal online emotion recognition (OER) systems. In particular SSI supports the pattern recognition pipeline by offering tailored tools for data segmentation, feature extraction, and pattern recognition, as well as, tools to apply them offline (training phase) and online (real-time recognition). Furthermore, it has been designed to handle input from various input modalities and to suit the fusion of multimodal information.

This leads to a higher demand of the hardware and software configuration, especially for on-line analysis. Continuous high-speed sampling brings a large number of data-processing tasks, Which makes the computer's resources lacked. By selecting appropriate schemes of intermittent highspeed data acquisition with an eye to the actual signal characteristics, the awkward situation maybe changed Considering the problem of data-processing during data acquisition, one fitting-first HHT signals splitting method is proposed.
