This paper addresses the problem of collaborative spectrum sensing using sequential detection (SD) in cognitive radios. The goal of sequential processing is to reduce the delay and amount of data needed in identifying underutilized spectrum. Each secondary user (SU) employs a simple and computationally efficient autocorrelation-based detector for Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) signals of the primary user (PU). The decision statistics from individual detectors are combined in a fusion center that may be a separate node or one of the secondary users. The statistical properties of the decision statistics are established. The performance of the scheme is studied by theory and simulations. A comparison of the SD scheme with the Neyman-Pearson Fixed Sample Size (FSS) test for the same false alarm and missed detection probabilities is also carried out.

This can make it difficult for researchers to develop open, nonproprietary interface and control systems that must access neural data in real time. In this paper, we present a novel packet-based protocol for description and configuration of an array of signalprocessing instruments, software modules that run on these processors, physical and logical connections, and management of binary data streams between system elements and external devices. This paper presents a new VQ encoding method using a dynamically constructed mixed pyramid for fast image compression. Our method enhances the speed of VQ encoding by allowing the "nearest" codeword of an input block to be identified without computing the Euclidean distances between the input block and all codewords. Our method is based on, and enhanced from, two recently proposed methods based on mixed pyramid data structure and dynamically constructed subvectors, respectively. Experimental results demonstrated that our method is more efficient than the previous two methods.

This paper presents a steganographic method in which a payload is embedded into the values of an attribute associated with files. A secret payload is embedded piece by piece, by traversing directories in a given directory tree. In each directory, a piece of the payload is embedded through an embedding algorithm specified by the user Two embedding algorithms are currently available. The regular files in the directory tree are kept intact even after embedding is performed, while most steganographic methods ever proposed modify contents of files for embedding data. A prototype system has been developed for Linux. It has been shown that the proposed method does work in principle.

Reproducing stego audio signal via a loudspeaker and detecting embedded data from a recorded sound from a microphone are challenging with respect to the application of data hiding. A watermarking technique using subband amplitude modulation was applied to a system that displays text information synchronously with the watermarked audio signal transmitted in the air. The robustness of the system was evaluated by a computer simulation in terms of the correct rate of data transmission under reverberant and noisy conditions. The results showed that the performance of detection and the temporal precision of synchronization were sufficiently high. Objective measurement of the watermarked audio quality using the PEAQ method revealed that the mean objective difference grade obtained from 100 watermarked music samples exhibited an intermediate value between the mean ODGs of 96-kbps and 128-kbps MP3 encoded music samples.
