High-quality data are the prerequisite for analyzing and using big data to guarantee the value of the data. Missing values in data is a common yet challenging problem in data analytics and data mining, especially in the era of big data. Amount of missing values directly affects the data quality. Therefore, it is critical to properly recover missing values in the dataset. This paper presents a new imputation algorithm called Cluster-based Best Match Scanning (CBMS) designed for Big data. It is a modification of k-NN imputation. CBMS focuses on recovering continuous numeric missing values, and aims at balancing computational complexity and accuracy. As an imputation algorithm, it can potentially reduce the time complexity of k-NN from to, and also reduce the space/memory usage, while perform no worse than k-NN imputation. On top of that CBMS is highly parallelizable. Simulation of CBMS is conducted on smart meter reading data. data is manually divided into training set and testing set, and testing accuracy is evaluated by computing the mean absolute deviation. Comparison with linear interpolation and k-NN imputation is made to demonstrate the power and effectiveness of our proposed CBMS algorithm.

Bali is a world tourism destination with its cultural uniqueness, one of the Balinese cultural products that need to be maintained is the art of Balinese carvings in traditional buildings and sacred buildings, to inherit the culture it needs a management, documentation and dissemination of information by utilizing technology. Digital image processing and pattern recognition can be utilized to preserve arts and culture, the technology can be utilized to classify images into specific classes. Balinese carving is one of the carvings that have many variations, if these carvings are analyzed then required an appropriate method for feature extraction process to produce special features in the image. So they can be recognized and classified well and provide information that helps preserve Bali. The aim of this research is to get the right feature extraction method to recognize and classify Bali carving pattern image based on the accuracy of HOG feature extraction method with PCA trained using LVQ. The results of the test data obtained the best accuracy of HOG is 90% with cell size 32 × 32 and block size 2 × 2, PCA obtained 23.67% with threshold 0.01 and 0.001, from training input with learning rate = 0.001 and epoch = 1000. © Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2017.

Recently, Water Quality (WQ) comes out to be the central point of concern all around the globe. The purpose of this work is to develop an automated procedure that can be used to classify the water quality of the River Ganga proficiently in the stretch from Devprayag to Roorkee Uttarakhand, India. The monthly data sets of five water quality parameters temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen (DO), biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) and total coliform (TC) for the time period from 2001 to 2015 is used for this research work. The proposed method involves developing various water quality classification models using one of the concept of data mining called decision tree (DT) for evaluating the WQ classes. The experiments are conducted using Weka data mining tool. Models first developed using (60–40)% data division approach and then using (80–20)% approach of data division. Five different decision tree models are developed named J48 (C4.5), Random Forest, Random Tree, LMT (logistic model tree) and Hoeffding Tree. These classifiers were analyzed to determine the most accurate classifier model for the present dataset by evaluating their performance via measures like Accuracy, Kappa Statistics, Recall, Precision, F-Measure, Mean absolute error and Root mean squared error. The results concluded that the random forest model outperforms all other classifiers with a great accuracy rate of 100% in both approaches and least error rate when developed using the second approach. Such a highly acceptable and attractive results may be helpful for the decision makers in water management and planning. © Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2018.

With the further research of big data management, plenty of components for big data management have been developed. Based on Hadoop platform, these components provide solutions for big data management from different levels. The Hadoop ecosystem has gradually taken its shape. However, users usually lack the knowledge about the features of these components, such as the I/O pattern, capability, application scenes and so on. When dealing with some big data problems, these components are often chosen by user's experience and this will definitely lead to mismatch between the demands and the management tools. Thus, the platform cannot play out its optimal performance. Focus on this issue, this paper tested and evaluated several widely used mainstream big data management tools in Hadoop ecosystem from three levels: distributed file system, NoSQL database and SQL-like component. After the brief introduction to the typical management tools, comprehensive comparisons of these tools of the same level are carried out. The advantages and disadvantages are discussed and their performance are also tested and analyzed.

Ising model was originally designed to address the interactions among the atoms inside magnetic field. As it can fit into many biological problems where adjacent entities can interact with each other, Ising model is getting more and more popular. With its help, people may have a deeper and better understanding of associations between two related entities like genes and their products. However, it may require a lot of time to solve Ising model problem when the size of the dataset is large. To tackle the speed problem, we introduce two different parallelized implementations of Ising model problem on two mainstream processors in high performance computing field, multi-core CPUs and many-core GPUs. The test results show that they can increase the performance with different speedups on datasets with varying sizes.

Now a day’s, diabetic food recognition for various types of diabetic patients is the challenge proposed by the world medical Association. In order to overcome the challenge and limiting the misclassification rate, the Diabetic calorie measurement system was proposed. This proposed system grants user to acquire a photo of food and to measure calories without human intervention, which offer qualitative nutritional information about foods. Before the classification, Scale Invariant Feature Transform (SIFT) features obtained from different color spaces and texture features extracted by using Histogram Statistics(HS), Gray Level Co-occurrence Matrices (GLCM) and the Fast Fourier Transformation (FFT). By these color and textural features, Support Vector Machine (SVM), Extreme Learning Machine (ELM) and Biogeography Based Classification (BBO) are used for classification of diabetic patient comestible and not comestible foods. Based on the classification results, diabetic patient comestible food image involved in the system to measure their calorie by using GLCM and identify whether the food is comestible by TYPE:1 diabetic patient or TYPE:II diabetic patient. Final experimental results indicated that the performance rate of classification accuracy can be improved for FFT based texture feature compared to other features. The BBO optimizer gives optimized features and enhanced performance for very challenging large food image data set. © Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2018.

We present here the initial results of our investigation of a system architecture for location-based publish/subscribe services utilizing a graph-based model for managing data and computations. This architecture is implemented on a cluster computer using the facilities and the computation model provided by the Beehive framework which supports a transactional model of parallel computing on dynamic graph data structures. We implemented a Museum Visitor Service as an example of a location-based publish/subscribe system to study and evaluate the performance this approach. This service includes features utilizing location-based publish/subscribe functions for supporting coordination and collaboration among members in a social group visiting the museum. We implemented a testbed system for this service and evaluated its performance on a cluster computer. Our work also illustrates that weaker consistency models for transactions can be utilized in such services to achieve higher performance and scalability.

Memory size and the number of cores inside a chip are increasing with the advancement of technology. With 3D stacked IC technology, memory size becomes even larger inside the chip-multiprocessor. So memory mapping, task scheduling and along with communication optimization of the network-on-chip become crucial. Hence operating system memory management and scheduling approach need to consider this advancement of the on-chip memory size and on-chip network architecture for efficient mapping. In this paper, we have proposed an efficient virtual page to memory slice mapping and used simulated annealing based thread to core mapping of multi-threaded application onto 3D stacked memory chip-multiprocessor. Our experimental result shows, the thread to core mapping reduces the overall on-chip communication cost up to 26% and an average of 12%. Moreover, our proposed virtual pages to DRAM slices mapping reduces the overall on-chip communication cost up to a maximum of 86% and an average of 56% for many real multi-threaded benchmarks and multi-benchmark workloads. Results also show that overall on-chip communication cost does not improve much due to the thread only mapping, but when it is combined with the virtual page to DRAM slice mapping then improvements are significant. Further, we extended the approach to do dynamic virtual page mapping at runtime, which reduces overall communication cost up to 78% with incurring a negligible amount of overhead.

Techniques of preserving privacy in databases and accordingly in the concepts of data mining have optically discerned a rapid magnification-outburst. The work done in this paper examines the quandary of mining, while preserving the privacy of subsequent and recurrent consecutive patterns over dynamic databases. Here a strategy is presented so that privacy of data can be bulwarked by integrating with every transaction some strepitous elements. According to the results obtained from experiments, the procedure has higher precision as compared to others. For successive mining the technique is used on subsisting PISA algorithm. The algorithm can be applied on static as well as progressively augmenting databases and subsequently takes full advantage of their materialism of the module. © 2017 IEEE.
