Due to the high power consumption of data centers, cloud service providers have to suffer the enormous electricity bill as well as environmental problem incurred. In order to solve this problem, huge amount of efforts have been devoted to improving the resource utilization of data center by consolidating requests and switching idle servers into low-power sleeping states. In this paper, we propose GreenSleep, a novel scheduling scheme of servers with multi-sleep modes for cloud data center. Note that, the server under deeper sleep mode usually consumes less power, but needs more time to wake up. To be practical, we assume the incoming requests have multi-dimensional resource demand with different start time and end time. The biggest challenges are: 1) how to allocate the requests to as few servers as possible within execution time;2) when and which servers should sleep under which mode;3) when and which sleeping servers should be waken up online. We formulate our problem as an optimization problem with the goal of minimizing the total power consumption of cloud data center. To solve this problem, our algorithm is designed considering both requests allocation and sleep-modes switching. Experiments show that our method can significantly reduce the total power consumption for cloud data center.

With the development of Internet of Things and multi-sensor data fusion technology, traditional off-line data processing methods have been unable to deal with massive data, which leads to a loss in timeliness of data. As more and more well-known companies start to focus on real-time big data applications, some computing frameworks have developed rapidly, in which Apache Storm is the most representative open-source, distributed one due to its high reliability and good processing mode. In this paper, a multi-sensor data fusion system that combines classical data fusion algorithms with Storm architecture is proposed, to achieve real-time streaming data processing. data fusion process is split into functional modules according to the feature of Storm. Extensive experiment results show that these algorithms can achieve better performance of data fusion in a short delay.

This paper introduces the detection principle of Gas-Insulated Switchgear(GIS) ultrasonic testing method for the fault location of flashover. We designed the GIS flashover fault location monitoring system, which solved the problem of low precision and time-consuming for the detection of GIS. We designed the hardware and software of the monitoring system. We use the three op amp differential amplifier circuit in front processing circuit of the hardware part to suppress the common mode signal in the signals. When the signal is processed by software, the method of wavelet soft and hard threshold is designed to remove the noise in the signal and improve the signal to noise ratio. We achieve the task of wireless data transmission through the Zig Bee2007 Proprotocol stack. Experimental platform is built to verify the reliability of the GIS flashover fault location system, which can improve the positioning accuracy and fault location, and has the advantages of low cost, portability and so on.

The tests on the physical mechanical indexes of the reclaimed soft clay are necessary to be done before the foundation strengthening treatment. This paper focus on the study of correlational relationship between the physical mechanical indexes, such as the natural water content, the void ratio, the liquid limit etc., by fitting the data of model test on samples collecting from the Xu Wei Lianyungang port. The linear relationship fitting curve of the physical mechanical indexes is proposed, and these results support the high efficient operation in engineering practice.

As the rapid development of Electric Vehicles (EV), battery aging phenomenon becomes an emerging and challenging question to EV communities. However, battery degradation in real-life EV use has been discussed little. In this paper, by analyzing a large scale electric taxi GPS and deal data, we make the first attempt to investigate this problem. A case in Shenzhen is analyzed in this paper, where BYD e6 is used as the EV taxi type, offering us a real situation. Since data of battery management system (BMS) is not open in public, a new concept of travelled distance between two consecutive recharging events (TDC) is proposed to describe battery capacity loss. By utilizing historical TDC values of EV taxis, a statistic analysis method based on box-plot is proposed to understand battery aging. To evaluate battery performance and degradation in real-life EV use, we conduct experiments on nearly 4 years real EV taxi GPS data. The evaluation results demonstrate that external circumstances, such as temperature, road condition and charging rate, will have an impact on battery degradation in real-life EV use while the overall battery aging trend will be affected little.

The paper presents a hybrid system based on a combination of wavelet filtering operations and regression neural networks. The system is adapted to analyze the ionosphere data obtained at "Paratunka" station (Kamchatka). Testing of the system has shown its efficiency in the tasks of analysis of characteristic properties of ionospheric data and detection of anomalies occurring during disturbed periods. For a detailed analysis of anomalies, computing solutions based on the application of continuous wavelet transform and threshold functions were suggested. Geovisualization process is the key in map design to extract information from geospatial data set especially on big data. The use of point feature in the geovisualization process of earthquake spatial data in Indonesia caused some problems such as overlapping between symbols, complications due to the large amount of data, and uneven spatial distribution. This research aims to create geovisualization of earthquake spatial data in Indonesia using hexagonal tessellation method, analyze earthquake map in Indonesia based on geovisualization using hexagonal tessellation and interpret earthquake map in Indonesia based on geovisualization using hexagonal tessellation spatiotemporally. The method used in this research is geovisualization of earthquake spatial data in Indonesia using hexagonal tessellation. This research use earthquake epicenter density analysis to discover and illustrate the spatial phenomena pattern of the earthquake epicenter into more easily understood information. The density analysis includes distance matrix analysis to examine the visualization result and proximity analysis to know the proximity of earthquake density represented by centroid hexagon point with the tectonic plate fault line. The result of this research is earthquake map in Indonesia based on geovisualization using hexagonal tessellation in Indonesia 2010 to 2015. The result of this research shows that the map design of earthquake geospatial information using hexagonal tessellation geovisualization method can show the density distribution of earthquake point spatiotemporally. The earthquake epicenter density analysis in Indonesia based on geovisualization using hexagonal tessellation showed that the hexagon centroid point with high density attribute earthquake data of all magnitude classes tended to have a closer distance to the tectonic plate fault lines spatially. © Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2017.

A typical application normally includes the main program and some shared libraries. The main program can arbitrarily execute the code of those shared libraries due to the coexistence in the same memory space. This feature can be used by attackers to carry out code-reuse attacks. Meanwhile, the shared libraries are shared across multiple applications, which can help attackers to simplify the process of code-reuse attacks. Isolating shared library into a separate execution environment and restricting the access to this library is a promising countermeasure, while the existing isolation approaches need to either modify the main program, or break the shared feature of the library. In this paper, we present Libsec, an efficient and transparent approach to isolate shared libraries, without the need of source code of the main program or shared libraries. Libsec adopts commodity hardware virtualization extension to isolate shared libraries from the main program. Meanwhile, Libsec relies on static instrumentation and dynamic processing to provide interfaces for legitimate cross-domain invocations. By this way, Libsec can guarantee that the main program and shared libraries are executed in the corresponding execution environment respectively, while cross-domain invocation is only allowed via specific interfaces, thus preventing the main program from jumping directly to the shared library. We implement a prototype of Libsec in KVM. To demonstrate its effectiveness, we deploy it to some real-world applications and libraries, such as Nginx and OpenSSL libraries. Security evaluation shows that Libsec can prevent the attacker from utilizing the functions or instruction sequences of the shared library for code-reuse attack. Performance evaluation shows that the performance and space overhead caused by Libsec are appropriate.

Security and privacy are arguably the most critical issues that are still raising anxiety about cloud computing, and playing the decisive role in business migration from in premise to public clouds. IT infrastructures and also cloud computing's are essentially relying on encryption and access controls to protect business and personal data privacy. Access controls encompass authentication and authorization. The strength of these processes is directly reflected on the whole management system. In this paper, we discuss a cloud consumer's authentication mechanism that aims to overcome actual weaknesses and to provide the required strength to access control systems in order to support privacy protection. © 2017 IEEE.

Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) systems may be adopted by city managers to combat the problems of long vehicular queues, fuel wastage, high accident risks, and environmental pollution that come with the use of traditional or manual toll collection systems. In this paper, an intelligent system is developed to eliminate long vehicular queues, fuel wastage, high accident risks, and environmental pollution in a smart city based on seamless interconnections of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs), and web and mobile applications that run on an Internet of Things (IoT)-Enabled cloud platform. A ZigBee WSN is designed and implemented using an Arduino UNO, XBee S2 radios, an XBee Shield, and a Seeduino GPRS Shield. For vehicle owners to make toll payments, view toll historical data, and get toll news feeds, a web application and a mobile application are designed and implemented based on Hyper Text Mark-up Language (HTML), Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), Javascript and Hyper Text Pre-processor (PHP). The mobile application is deployed using an Android platform. A cloud platform was also developed to provide business logic functionalities by using PHP as a scripting language, and MySQL as the database engine driver. Deployment of the developed ETC system in smart and connected communities will drastically minimize the challenges of long vehicular queues, fuel wastage, high accident risks, and environmental pollution in urban centers. © Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2018.
