With the continuously increasing power of computation, especially in the region of parallel computing, computer-based texture analysis, computer-assisted classification methods, automated pathology detections, etc. are more and more commonly performed on medical images, like X-ray, Magnetic Resonance (MR) images, for clinical or scientific purposes. These procedures almost always include a stage of textural feature extraction, which usually requires an extensive computation. In this paper, we propose a GPGPU (General-purpose computing on graphics processing units)-based parallel method to accelerate the extraction of a set of features based on the Gray-Level Co-Occurrence Matrix (GLCM) which is a second order statistic that characterizes textures. Performance evaluation of the proposed method implemented with CUDA C is carried out on various GPU devices by comparing to its serial counterpart which is implemented in both Matlab and C on a single node. A series of experimental tests focused on Magnetic Resonance (MR) brain images demonstrate that the proposed method is very efficient and superior to the serial counterpart. A speedup of about 30 - 100 fold is achieved in general.

The world of industrial automation technology is at the outset of a new era of innovation with the hype of Industry 4.0. Global modern industrial system converges the power of machines, computing, analytics, connectivity, cyber-physical systems, Internet of things, automation, cloud system and data exchange. Industry 4.0 is a revolution towards the digital world of digital factories and smart products. Big data is an integration of multi-disciplinary technologies and facilitates customer by bringing incredible services to a click. Internet of things connected the world of machines by adding communication capability in every device to connect to other devices or access the Internet. Big data inflict a new horizon of opportunities in these systems. In this paper, challenges and opportunities of industrial big data are revealed in the context of Industry 4.0 with a different perspective. The current study helps the researchers to threshold these modern systems of Industry 4.0 in designing big data algorithms and techniques.

This paper proposes a novel robust reversible data hiding scheme. This scheme is realized by two stages, which embed robust watermarks and fragile ones respectively. Firstly, the robust watermarks are embedded into the mid-low frequency coefficients after the image transformed from spatial domain to frequency domain. Then, side information that used to ensure the reversibility is embedded in spatial domain by the form of fragile watermarks. 5-3 integer wavelet transform (IWT) is adopted in this paper, which provides integer-to-integer transformation that ensure the low capacity of the side information. Experimental results verify high performance of robustness and image quality.

With the rapid advance of big data and cloud computing, building high quality big data systems in different application fields has gradually became a popular research topic in academia and industry as well as government agencies. However, more quality problems lead to application errors. Although the current research work has discussed how to ensure the quality of big data applications from several aspects, there is no systematic discussion on how to ensure the quality of large data applications. Therefore, a systematic study on big data application quality assurance is very necessary and critical. This paper focuses on the survey of quality assurance techniques of big data applications, and it introduces big data properties and quality attributes. It mainly discusses the key approaches to ensure the quality of big data applications and they are testing, model-driven architecture (MDA), monitoring, fault tolerance, verification and also prediction techniques. In addition, this paper also discusses the impact of big data characteristics on big data applications.

Currently, with the rapid development of industry, the amount of data generated by industrial enterprises and industrial business website is exponential growth, and the big data has different types. In this paper, we design and implement an industrial big data information acquisition and query system. The system is based on big data acquisition and analysis of industry news data and industrial products data. We use a template based information acquisition method to crawl data from industry related news data and industry products data. We also discuss the query performance of text industry data with text index and only by SQL without index. The system is useful for analysis the hot news in industrial field and industry public opinion, and it is also useful for providing reference and rapid search and comparison of the relevant industrial products price, inventory and other information.

Water scarcity is one of the serious problems that California is facing today. Water scarcity leads to doughtiness when not properly addressed. In the recent years, California faces a serious drought problem. This provides a strong demand in building a real-time system to support water resources analysis, drought modeling and prediction. Existing models and approaches lack of desirable accuracy in predicting and analyzing California Drought. This paper proposes a big data based approach to support California Drought analysis and prediction based on diverse data sets, including climate sensor and satellite data, weather data, and drought condition and water usage reports. The paper reports an implemented system supporting big data analytics for California Drought. It uses a proposed California Drought Index and presents big data analytics results based on existing big data models and algorithms, as well as proposed graphic models.

data-intensive computing is expected to be the next-generation IT computing paradigm. data-intensive workflows in clouds are becoming more and more popular. How to schedule data-intensive workflow efficiently has become the key issue. In this paper, first, we build a directed hypergraph model for data-intensive workflow, since Hypergraphs can more accurately model communication volume and better represent asymmetric problems, and the cut metric of hypergraphs is well suited for minimizing the total volume of communication. Second, we propose a concept data supportive ability to help the presentation of data-intensive workflow application and provide the merge operation details considering the data supportive ability. Third, we present an optimized hypergraph multi-level partitioning algorithm. Finally we bring a data reduced scheduling policy HEFT-P for data-intensive workflow. Through simulation, we compare HEFT-P with three typical workflow scheduling policies. The results indicate that HEFT-P could obtain reduced data scheduling and reduce the makespan of executing data-intensive workflows.
