Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) is used to detect when one or more of the vehicle's tires is 25 percent or more below the manufacturer's recommended inflation pressure. A TPMS system consists of four wireless sensors, a high frequency (HF) antenna and a central receiver. In this paper, a high accuracy sensor incorporated with a sensor signal conditioning chip is presented. A new TPMS wireless signal conditioning method for automotive applications is developed. The signal conditioning method consists of a signal conditioning chip and a calibration algorithm. The calibration algorithm has been established by relating to measured voltage, temperature and pressure ADC reading at three different temperature ranges. Twenty-five relating coefficients are obtained from characterization test before sensor signal conditioning is applied to TPMS wireless sensor calibration. The test results show that the signal conditioning method provides higher accuracy performance for wireless sensor within a battery supply voltage range from 2.1V to 3.6 V and a temperature range from -40 degrees C to 125 degrees C. The signal conditioning method also reduces the cost of wireless sensor. Moreover, a presented sensor calibration system helps to improve production efficiency and lower production costs.

In this paper we propose the use of Timed Coloured Petri Nets for the Performance Evaluation of Hardware/Software systems for DSP applications. Complex systems on chip, composed by hardware and software parts, are often required to meet strict timing constraints, both in terms of throughput and latency. However, the verification of the suitability of a system configuration can usually be performed only after the integration of the hardware and software components, when design modifications and optimizations are particularly expensive. This article proposes a framework to evaluate the performance of HW/SW systems in which Timed Coloured Petri Nets can be exploited in the early phases of the design. The framework is tested by modelling the Physical Uplink Shared Channel (PUSCH) bit-rate receiver portion of 3GPP (3rd Generation Partnership Project) LTE (Long Term Evolution) standard, the next generation of 3G wirelesssystems.

Vibration energy scavenging with piezoelectric material can currently generate up to 300 microwatts per cubic centimeter, making it a viable method of powering low-power electronics. Given the growing interest in small-scale devices, particularly wireless sensor networks, concerns over how to indefinitely power them have become extremely relevant. Current limiting factors in the field of piezoelectric vibration energy scavenging include: coupling coefficients, strain distribution, and frequency matching. This paper addresses each of these three factors with a novel design and a corresponding analysis of its performance. For example, the power output of a cantilevered rectangular piezoelectric beam is limited by its uneven strain distribution under load. A prototype scavenger using a harmonically matched trapezoidal geometry solves this problem by evening the strain distribution throughout the beam, increasing by 30% the output power per unit volume. Another design is created which softens the frequency response of the generator, relaxing the constraint of frequency matching. The paper concludes that each of the three challenges to vibration energy scavenging can be met through creativity in mechanism design, making higher power densities possible and broader applications more feasible.

Making an application dependable demands that its functional and non-functional requirements be stringently fulfilled throughout its development process. In this context, a design-driven development approach has the key advantage of enabling requirements to be traced from their high-level design forms to the resulting executable artifact. However, because such approaches are mostly general purpose, they provide little design guidance, if any. This situation makes unpredictable the coherence and the conformance of an application with respect to its requirements. To address this situation, we propose an approach that leverages a design-driven development process dedicated to a specific paradigm. This approach guides the verification of the coherence and conformance of an application throughout its development. We demonstrate the benefits of our approach by applying it to a realistic case study in the avionics domain.
