With the development of oblique photogrammetry technology and automatic 3d model reconstruction technique, massive urban 3d models can be quickly and efficiently generated. The demand is urgent for 3d display capability on a Web-based virtual Globe for massive oblique photogrammetry models. In order to achieve the visualization of the data, in the process of production, the origin data should be partitioned into tiles firstly and then HLOd algorithm is applied on each tile, so that the output data has a chunk-based multiple resolution data structure. However, there is no standard spatial data structure for 3d data segmentation. Therefore, for some tiled data, there may be tiles with large data size, so the problems such as memory overflow and browser crash may occur due to excessive data loaded in the process of visual interaction. In order to guarantee the visual interaction on different terminal devices for different oblique photogrammetry models, this paper firstly designs a 3d tile model suitable for network transmission and application, and then analyzes the scheduling of Cesium 3d Tiles and its existing problems. A 3d tiles dynamic loading and scheduling strategy is proposed based on terminal memory size and screen space error. This strategy monitors the load of data in real time during the visual interaction process. When the data loaded exceeds the preset threshold, some high resolution tiles will be unloaded, using slight lower resolution tiles to take the replace. Experiments prove that adopting this strategy can ensure the stability of the loaded data amount and better visual effects during the visual interaction, and the browser can always operate normally.

Autonomous robots equipped with laser scanners acquire data at an increasingly high rate. Registration, data abstraction and visualization of this data requires the processing of a massive amount of 3d data. The increasing sampling rates make it easy to acquire Billions of spatial data points. This paper presents algorithms and data structures for handling this data. We propose an efficient octree to store and compress 3d data without loss of precision. We demonstrate its usage for fast 3d scan matching and shape detection algorithms. We evaluate our approach using typical data acquired by mobile scanning platforms. © 2011 IEEE.

Because of the rapid progress in image acquisition technologies, 3d images become increasingly popular in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and other applications. 3d image registration attracts more and more interesting researches. However, most existing image registration methods are based on 2d image processing. But, the structure of a typical 3d image is substantially more complicated than that of a typical 2d image. So, 3d image registration could be more challenging. Moreover, it is also a key challenge to choose good features because different applications should use different features accordingly. In this paper, we develop a 3d rigid image registration method which registers the 3d images using direct image intensity without any feature. It is shown that this method works well in various cases and greatly reduces the processed data size which makes it attractive for 3d image applications since 3d images often have a big data sizes and the reduction of size could significantly benefit follow-up processing for efficient computation.

Unstructured Lumigraph Rendering is a well-established and flexible image-based rendering technique to create novel views from a set of acquired images. However, the standard implementation may not provide a pleasing visualization when images are captured under suboptimal conditions. In our scenario, lightfield information is gained using images from endoscopes that observe the operating field during minimal-invasive surgery. Suboptimal lighting conditions and limited mobility of the endoscope lead to visual artefacts in the final visualization of the scene. To resolve these problems, we propose a set of new algorithms for computing the ranking criterions that are used by the Unstructured Lumigraph for visualization. Using these algorithms, we get satisfying results for visualization of endoscopic image data captured under the aforementioned conditions. To achieve real-time visualization, the vital parts of our algorithms have been implemented using OpenGL and GLSL, thus making use of the features and speed of modern graphics hardware. © 2008 Georgia Institute of Technology.

Range image registration and surface reconstruction have been traditionally considered as two independent problems where the latter relies on the results of the former This paper presents a new approach to surface recovery from range images where these two processes are integrated and performed in a common volumetric representation. The volumetric representation contains both implicitly represented reconstructed surface as the signed distance field and cot-responding matching information in the form of the gradient of the distance field. This allows both simultaneous and incremental registration where matching complexity is linear with respect to the number of images. This improvement leads to incremental modeling from range image acquisition to surface reconstruction. It is shown that the approach is tolerant to initial registration errors as well as to measurement errors while keeping the details of the initial range images. The paper describes the formalism of the approach. Experimental results demonstrate performance advantages, tolerance to aforementioned types of errors and, as an application, filtering using redundant range data without loss of sharp details on the reconstructed surface.

This paper proposes an enterprise information system module architecture based on e-commerce platform. The front end uses High charts to visualize the data. The background uses dPI to extract e-commerce data from network traffic to establish a user shopping behavior database. At the same time, the use of web crawler to establish e-commerce product information database. The results can be dynamically updated and visualized, and the validity of the EdVM model is preliminarily verified by experiments. This article focuses on the performance of the intelligent control system for network information transmission rate on e-commerce platforms, This article builds a rigorous experimental process based on simulation experiments. Finally, through data analysis and comparison, it is verified that the e-commerce platform has advantages in network information transmission rate, and this intelligent control advantage can effectively optimize the design of client buffers. The system has excellent significance. © 2023 IEEE.

An automatic approach to the recognition of 3d face under any facial expression is presented. It has the capacity to differentiate between expression deformations, those which are caused by expressions, and interpersonal disparities that are essential for recognition. When two facial scans are matched the expression deformations are morphed out before similarity measure calculation while the interpersonal disparities are retained. A combination of PCA and ICP is used in our system. The PCA subspace is built in such a way it models the facial expressions while it does not model the human face. The approach was applied on the FRGC v2.0 dataset and superior recognition performance was achieved. The verification rates at 0.001 FAR were 98.35% and 97.73% for scans under neutral and non-neutral expressions, respectively. © 2008 Georgia Institute of Technology.

Packet loss affects the receiving quality of 3d meshes transmitted over unreliable networks. While some applications are able to tolerate higher loss, others may need to restrict the loss below a specified level. In this work we describe a curvature-driven probabilistic strategy to control the adverse impact of packet loss. Critical mesh features, with high curvature, like sharp edges and corners are allocated more bandwidth to increase the rate of their successful transmission. When the probability of visual degradation caused by lost critical features exceeds an acceptable level, a group of curvature indices is added to the transmission pipeline and stored in packets different from those containing the critical features. The size of the indices is governed by three parameters: The mesh resolution, the minimum required quality and the tolerance. We incorporate this new strategy with an earlier interleaved transmission approach. Experimental results show that the reconstructed meshes using the integrated strategy have higher visual quality. © 2008 Georgia Institute of Technology.

A mesh conformation approach that makes use of deformable generic meshes has been applied to establishing correspondences between 3d shapes with missing data. Given a group of shapes with correspondences, we can build up a statistical shape model by applying principal component analysis (PCA). The conformation at first globally maps the generic mesh to the 3d shape based on manually located corresponding landmarks, and then locally deforms the generic mesh to clone the 3d shape. The local deformation is constrained by minimizing the energy of an elastic model. An algorithm was also embedded in the conformation process to fill missing surface data of the shapes. Using synthetic data, we demonstrate that the conformation preserves the configuration of the generic mesh and hence it helps to establish good correspondences for shape analysis. Case studies of the principal component analysis of shapes were presented to illustrate the successes and advantages of our approach. © 2004 IEEE.

This paper introduces interaction mechanisms for conveying temporal characteristics of time-varying volume data based on temporal styles. We demonstrate the flexibility of the new concept through different temporal style transfer function types and we define a set of temporal compositors as operators on them. The data is rendered by a multi-volume GPU raycaster that does not require any grid alignment over the individual time-steps of our data nor a rectilinear grid structure. The paper presents the applicability of the new concept on different data sets from partial to full voxel alignment with rectilinear and curvilinear grid layout. © 2008 Georgia Institute of Technology.
