With the rapid development of computer network technology, virtual display technology has become a typical representative of modern information technology, which can provide more efficient and intuitive technical means for flood prevention and risk assessment of water conservancy departments, and make more innovations and breakthroughs in the field of 3d simulation. This paper takes the area of Wuyuan County in the upper reaches of Le'an River in Poyang Lake as an example. Based on WebGIS technology, spatial database technology, CTS virtual display technology and combined with TOPMOdEL semi-distributed hydrological model and IFMS domestic flood analysis software, it uses computer languages such as C#.NET and Java to carry out secondary development, explore and build a three-dimensional immersive hydrological multi-element virtual reality platform with real-time interactive display function, and realize the dynamics simulation display of three-dimensional data query, water and rain monitoring, flood evolution, submergence analysis, disaster assessment and other scenes under the three-dimensional perspective. It also provides an auxiliary decision-making platform for flood control and disaster reduction in the river basin, and further improves the guarantee level of water safety in the river basin. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

This Point cloud segmentation is a fundamental yet challenging step in point cloud processing, with wide applications in object recognition, 3d reconstruction and scene understanding. However, the traditional point cloud segmentation methods are susceptible to data noise and suffer from low segmentation accuracy and blurred boundaries. To this end, we propose a supervoxel-based object segmentation method which consists of three stages. First, a boundary-refined supervoxel segmentation method is proposed to generate the supervoxels as the processing elements, which can guarantee the accuracy of object segmentation boundaries and improve processing efficiency. Second, an improved region growing method is proposed to obtain a series of facets using a novel seed selection criterion. Finally, a convexity-based merging method is proposed to achieve complete objects by judging the concavity between adjacent facets. The method is experimented on synthetic datasets and public datasets. The visualization and quantitative comparison results show that our method outperforms the reference methods in terms of segmentation accuracy and completeness.

Remote visualization of medical data is a very attractive alternative to increased mobility, allowing volumetric data to be accessed even in devices with low processing capability. However, the amount of simultaneous accesses and the bandwidth available are natural bottlenecks for any solution in this field. This paper presents a methodology to evaluate 3d volumetric rendering client-servers systems with the goal of determining the maximum load of a specific system based on Quality of Service (QoS). With such input in mind, a system architect could project systems with better cost-benefit ratio, or even design a cloud system that predicts and rents servers based on the number of service requests. In order to check the viability of the methodology, a stress test was conducted in a client-server system developed to visualize Computed Tomography (CT) scans. Results have shown that it could handle at least 20 simultaneous remote visualizations, even in scenarios with low bandwidth, finding its upper limit when dealing with around 30 simultaneous visualizations.

K-Nearest-Neighbor search (KNN) has been extensively used in the localization and mapping based on 3d laser point clouds in smart vehicles. Considering the real-time requirement of localization and stringent battery constraint in smart vehicles, it is a great challenge to develop highly energy-efficient KNN implementations. Unfortunately, previous KNN implementations either cannot efficiently build search data structures or cannot search efficiently in massive and unevenly distributed point clouds. To solve the issue, we propose a new framework to optimize the implementation of KNN on FPGAs. First, we propose a novel data structure with a spatial subdivision method, which can be built efficiently even for massive point clouds. Second, based on our data structure, we propose a KNN search algorithm which is able to search in unevenly distributed point clouds efficiently. We have implemented the new framework on both FPGA and GPU. Energy efficiency results show that our proposed method is on average 2.1 times and 6.2 times higher than the state-of-the-art implementations of KNN on FPGA and GPU platform, respectively.

during the last years, thanks to the availability of commercial and low-cost UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles), surveying by means of 3d reconstruction generated by computer vision algorithms is having a rapid growth. These tools allow for a quick and effective methodology to acquire image data and reconstruct a detailed 3d model that can be used for structural analysis and maintenance operations. In this context, this paper presents an application example of a commercial mini-UAV equipped with a low-cost camera in an aerial photogrammetric survey of a bamboo-steel spatial truss roof system, with the purpose of obtaining the as-built drawings. This roof system is located at the entrance of the College of Civil Engineering of the Nanjing Tech University and is made by a spatial truss system supporting a glass roof in which the GluBam beams are used for the upper chord and the diagonal elements, while steel tubes are used for the lower chord. The developed methodology for acquiring data through UAV is introduced, specifying the flight acquisition plan to obtain the images data, and the data processing using structure-from-motion algorithms to provide an accurate 3d-model. The accuracy of the measurements is evaluated by comparing results with project drawings. Moreover, the use of the obtained 3d model and photo dataset in practical application is discussed. The results highlight the economical and fast applicability of this technology to the survey of spatial truss structures to derive a 3d model, which can also be used to acquire useful information on the structural health *** techniques for the acquisition of spatial information are rapidly growing during the last years thanks to the availability of new technologies and instruments (both software and hardware). 3d representations of highly deformable 3d models, such as dynamic 3d meshes, have recently become very popular due to their wide applicability in various domains. This trend inevitably leads to a demand for storage and transmission of voluminous data sets, making the need for the design of a robust and reliable compression scheme a necessity. In this work, we present an approach for dynamic 3d mesh compression, that effectively exploits the spatio-temporal coherence of animated sequences, achieving low compression ratios without noticeably affecting the visual quality of the animation. We show that, on contrary to mainstream approaches that either exploit spatial (e.g., spectral coding) or temporal redundancies (e.g., PCA-based method), the proposed scheme, achieves increased efficiency, by projecting the differential coordinates sequence to the subspace of the covariance of the point trajectories. An extensive evaluation study, using, different dynamic 3d models, highlights the benefits of the proposed approach in terms of both execution time and reconstruction quality, providing extremely low bit-per-vertex- per-frame (bpvf) rates.

Coastal areas adjacent to the sea are vulnerable to disasters every year due to repeated damage caused by typhoon-induced tsunamis, seawater flooding, and erosion. As such, a method for comprehensively managing coastal facilities and areas vulnerable to danger, based on underwater, aerial, and underground information included in the three-dimensional (3d) grid system was prepared, which can serve as an objective and scientific data source for the decision-making involved in effective coastal management. To this end, the concept and roles of the 3d spatial grid system are introduced in this study. In addition, through 3d data production and visualization utilizing this method and considering the characteristics of coastal areas, a method for comprehensive management of coastal areas through the 3d spatial grid system is proposed.

The term additive manufacturing (AM) is used to describe processes of joining materials to make parts from a three-dimensional model data, as opposed to subtractive manufacturing. Although AM technology offers potential cost savings, production efficiencies, and distinct design features that cannot be easily achieved through traditional manufacturing, it is known that the performance of a product that is additively manufactured can be sensitive to the raw materials and the process parameters used. This often means that performance can vary across a product that is additively manufactured depending on build orientation, location within the processing equipment, and the combination of process parameters utilized in fabrication. In addition, the manufacturing variations that are inherent in the AM process from build to build, machine to machine, or batch to batch can have a significant effect on the final mechanical performance of a product that is additively manufactured. The task of characterizing mechanical properties at the coupon level to represent product that is additively manufactured not only is essential in design and analysis for the desired application but also is crucial in material, process, and machine qualification efforts. In choosing a test method or coupon design, the test volume should be sufficient to properly represent the part of interest. This paper provides experiences with using current industry-accepted ASTM tensile coupon test methods on products that are additively manufactured. © 2020 ASTM international.

In this paper, we proposed a 3d fully convolutional network (FCN) incorporating Savitzky-Golay (SG) filtering for prostate segmentation using magnetic resonance images (MRIs). deep learning methods have achieved promising results in the field of segmentation, especially in semantic segmentation. However, it is not fully applicable to 3d medical images. To better extract the spatial information encoded in the 3d volumetric data, we designed a 3d FCN with long skip connection and the Parametric Rectified Linear Unit (PReLU) being the activation function. To further polish the deep learning based segmentation results, we employed SG filtering as a post-processing step. The SG filter was applied for smoothing and denoising, wherein second-order partial derivatives were taken to extract the edge information and achieve hole filling. In comparison with the 3d FCN without SG filtering, the post-processed results were more smooth, accurate and robust. The proposed method performed superiorly for prostate segmentation over several other state-of-the-art methods.

In order to take full advantage of the three-dimensional digital design data and solve the traditional construction schemes' problems better, characteristics of three-dimensional digital data and the shortcomings of traditional construction management methods in the paper are analyzed. The organization management mode of 3d digital results is studied to construct a full information 3d model library by combing the relationship between models, attributes, documents, drawings, etc. On the basis of this, combined with the construction process of transmission engineering, a three-dimensional auxiliary construction application platform for transmission engineering based on three-dimensional digital design results is established. Through the software platform to manage, process, analyze and mine massive data, on the one hand, the integration, interaction and sharing of multi-source heterogeneous data are realized;on the other hand, the three-dimensional digital technology is applied to the construction process to realize the three-dimensional visualization of the construction process of the transmission engineering, thus providing a new solution for solving the construction problem. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.
