The Mo back contact layers were deposited by DC sputtering to investigate into that optimization the properties for CIGS solar cells. The working pressure and thickness of Mo thin films were varied during deposited process. When the working pressure at 1.5 mtorr and thickness of Mo thin films at 1000 nm, the properties of Mo thin films were best. The FWHM about 0.5 degrees and electrical resistivity can arrive about 2.5 x 10(-5) Omega-cm.

Mathematical programming approaches, such as Lagrangian relaxation, have the advantage of computational efficiency when the optimization problems are decomposable. Lagrangian relaxation belongs to a class of primal-dual algorithms. Subgradient-based optimization methods can be used to optimize the dual functions in Lagrangian relaxation. In this paper, the penalty surrogate subgradient (PSS) method is adopted and compared to solve a demonstrative mixed integer programming problem to assess the performances on optimality in order to demonstrate its applicability to the realistic problem.

Since the beginning of ``high-performance'' parallel computing, observing and analyzing performance for purposes of finding bottlenecks and identifying opportunities for improvement has been at the heart of delivering the performance potential of next-generation scalable systems. Interestingly, it is the ever-changing parallel computing landscape that is the main driver of requirements for parallel performance technology and the improvements necessary beyond the current state-of-the-art. Indeed, the development and application of our TAU Performance System over many years largely follows an evolutionary path of addressing measurement and analysis problems in new parallel machines and programming environments. However, the outlook to future parallel systems with high degrees of concurrency, heterogeneous components, dynamic runtime environments, asynchronous execution, and power constraints suggests a new perspective will be needed on the role of performance observation and analysis in respect to tool technology integration and performance optimization methods. The reliance on post-mortem analysis of application-level ("1st person") performance measurements is prohibitive for exascale-class machines because of the performance data volume, the primitive basis for performance data attribution, and the fundamental problem of performance variation that will exist. Instead, it will be important to provide introspection support across the exascale software stack to understand how system ("3rd person") resources are used during execution. Furthermore, the opportunity to couple a global performance introspection capability (a "performance backplane") with online performance decision analytics inspires the concept of an autonomic performance system that can feed back policy-based decisions to guide the computation to better states of execution. This paper presented the modified Chase algorithms to improve the decoding time by reducing the number of candidate codewords. Generally speaking, the candidate codewords will increase with the error correction capability of the code. This fact leads to decoding complexity. The innovations of the proposed algorithm lie in the two-step reliability information selection. Simulation results showed the decoding time of the new scheme is significantly improved, while the error correction performance is almost the same as compared with the conventional Chase-2 algorithm.

Assigning ASCII values to the plaintext alphabets during transmission of documents is very common, and as we know that the ASCII value of 'a' is less than that of 'z'. But, what would happen if the document contains more 'z' as compared to 'a'. In that case, achieving security through encryption decryption and compression is very difficult. This paper proposes a technique of assigning codes to plain text alphabets, based on the frequency of occurrences of those alphabets by using ant colony optimization with roulette wheel selection algorithm, so that security in code generation could be achieved. Obtained codes are then applied over a particular encryption algorithm such that the cipher text generated should contain those alphabets only whose code values are near about similar to that of plain text alphabets, in order to achieve compression simultaneously. Getting all this within specified time constraint makes this paper more impressive.

The current lack of efficiency in the use of airspace, enforced by the economic crisis an the increasing competitiveness among air transport companies are drivers for a renewed interest for the application of optimization techniques to find answers to overcame current inefficiencies. The main objective of the present paper is to assess and compare different optimal aircraft trajectories techniques applied to the minimum fuel cruise problem at constant altitude and course with fixed arrival time, international Standard Atmosphere and without wind. Four trajectory optimization methods have been used: Hermite-Simpson, 5th degree Gauss-Lobatto and Radau pseudospectral collocation methods and the singular arc solution. Hermite-Simpson and 5th degree methods have been programmed in Ampl modeling language with an IPOPT solver and Radau pseudospectral method using gpops matlab tool with SNOPT solver. 5th degree Gauss-Lobatto collocation method gives the less fuel consumption solution followed by Radau pseudospectral, Hermite-Simpson and singular arc. In considering the program execution time, Hermite-Simpson collocation method is the fastest method followed by 5th degree and Radau pseudospectral. Also, taking into account the time for developing the program code the Radau pseudospectral is the most user friendly. Moreover, it has been observed that increasing the sample points in the Hermite-Simpson and 5th degree, the solution converge to the minimum fuel consumption solution. On the other hand, gpops does not show much sensitivity to the number of sample points. (C) 2014 Published by Elsevier Ltd.

In this study, the affects of electrolyte composition on photovoltaic parameters in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) are analyzed using response surface methodology. We have obtained the relationship of the electrolyte conductivity, tri-iodide diffusivity, and DSSC efficiency based on LiI, I-2, and PMII concentrations in the electrolyte. With the optimal concentration of PMII at 1.4 M, LiI 0 M, and I-2 at 0.1 M, we could reach the highest electrolyte conductivity of 28.86 mS/cm (only 0.45% in error between predicted and experimental data). When PMII at 1.4 M, LiI 0 M and I-2 at 0.02 M, the predicted optimal cell efficiency was 8.41%, which was validated with an experimental value of 7.9% (with an error of 6.5%).

In this paper entropy generation analysis is used as a design tool to perform a pseudo-optimization of a shell-and-tube latent heat thermal energy storage (LHTES) system. An initial configuration is gradually varied by introducing design modifications with the aim of improving the performance of the system. The different configurations are investigated by means of a CFD code that adopts the enthalpy method to take in account of the phase change phenomenon in the system. Unsteady-state numerical simulations are performed to characterize the thermal behaviour of the system and to evaluate the various contributions of the entropy generation rate. The design improvements are introduced on the basis of a careful examination of the local entropy generation rate distribution. Results show that an unconventional fins arrangement allows to reduce the solidification time and increase system efficiency.
