Based on the improved genetic algorithm, the mathematical model of reactive power optimization for electric power distribution system integrating with distributed generation (DG) is proposed in this paper. The active power output of DG and the reactive power compensation position are added as control variable to analyze the influence to the reactive power optimization when DG connected to the system. The test system is a 33-bus electric power distribution system, and the simulation result shows that the method proposed in this paper is helpful in reducing power losses while improving the voltage profiles. © 2012 IEEE.

This paper considers the general issues in the project and the optimization of energy generation systems using small universal wind turbines, suitable in Distributed generation (DG) and computer aided optimization for a better exploitation of wind source. optimization in this field reveal to be more and more important because the local generation and consumption of electrical power, even for grid connected generators can suffers for unevenness of wind source exploitation, also in terms of wrong directions and in not regular wind flows. Computer aided design and optimization of small plants may give significant improvements in the development of the wind source also in accordance with the projections of future energy policies that foresee a significant increase of the wind generated energy for the future market. The effectiveness of computer aided optimization tools is illustrated in the present paper with the exposition of two case studies. In the first of them a Wind Electrical Energy Generating System is moved by a Modular Multiple Blade Fixed Pitch Wind Turbine coupled with an asynchronous wound rotor generator. In the second case study the optimization regards a Savonius wind turbine and a PM synchronous generator with particular reference to the development of wind source for the wind turbine and the reduction of saturation and of harmonic content in the emf for the electrical machines. © 2012 IEEE.

Economic performances of a microgrid with multi-energy are effected by many factors such as the configuration of microgrid systems for the specific installation sites and cluster of loads, operation modes and dispatching schedules of the microgrid, the electricity market, energy policy and alike. And the configuration of the microgrid is the premise of all factors. This paper presents an optimization model to quantitatively evaluate the economic impacts of different installation sites on microgrids with multi-energy. In this model, optimal configuration schemes for microgrids installed at typical sites are designed by particle swarm optimization method. The economic performances of optimal configuration schemes are evaluated by the operation simulation with the proposed indexes. Those typical installation sites mentioned above belong to different regions which are divided into the five-level classifications in terms of the richness of wind and solar resource and the distributions of loads in China. The calculation results may be used for the decision-making references by the decision-makers. © 2012 IEEE.

Islanding detection (ID) is a mandatory function for PV grid-connected converters. The traditional Sandia frequency shift method for ID becomes ineffective under certain parallel RLC loads. To alleviate this problem, a new methodology to optimize the frequency shift parameter Ks is proposed, and a novel non-detection zone (NDZ) mapping method is presented to map the NDZ influenced by each electrical parameter in this paper. An instability criterion relied on phase equilibrium principle algorithm is presented under specific loads to analyze the relationship between parameters and the reduction of NDZ. The proposed algorithm can keep the frequency of inverter output voltage deviating until the protection circuit is triggered with lower harmonic current. Single-phase photovoltaic grid-connected simulation system and experimental platform are constructed according to IEEE Std. 2000-929. Both the simulation and experimental results prove the robustness and effectiveness of the proposed parameter optimization algorithm. © 2012 IEEE.

The paper presents a strategy for life cycle optimization of an irregular multi-storey structure. In the introductory part, some relevant issues of design methodology of European code EC8 compared to Romanian National regulations for this irregular Reinforced Concrete (RC) class of constructions, located in seismic areas, are presented. The main focus of our paper is modelling & simulations studies for life-cycle optimization of these irregular structures using Dynamic Modal and Nonlinear Pushover Analysis Methods, respectively. It is considered a RC study case of an irregular structure for which the experimental dynamic data have been available from SPEAR project. Two different lifetime stages of structural behaviour regarding the non-retrofitted and retrofitted RC models, respectively are considered for which the Push-over and Progressive Collapse procedures are applied, revealing the collapse sequences along with relevant changes in structural seismic safety.

This paper presents an original hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) solution for real-time testing and optimization of the frequency control mechanism in autonomous microgrids (MG), when battery energy storage systems (BESS) are integrated along classical and RES-based generators to stabilize the frequency. The focus is on autonomous MGs that dynamically should perform similarly to the conventional power systems. During MG autonomous operation, the generators should accomplish the frequency control process, by means of their automatic generation control. However, RES-based generators have poor controllability in terms of active power, and therefore the need of improving the MG power reserve by adding energy storage systems is often demanded. The proposed HIL solution aims to improve the design of the BESS frequency control systems according to the MG characteristics, being based on aggregated models of the involved mechanisms in the MG dynamics. An experimental test bench including a real-time digital simulator with BESS controller in the HIL structure is used for assessing the proposed system performances. © 2012 IEEE.

The Long Term Evolution (LTE) network will be at first deployed in some areas with high user traffic overlaying with legacy radio access technologies (RATs) such as the second generation (2G) or third generation (3G) mobile system. Consequently, the user equipments (UEs) will be handed over from LTE to 3G network and vice versa. Having robust and error-free handovers between different RATs is one of the most prominent self-organizing network (SON) use cases where the handover thresholds of the base stations in both networks have to be automatically optimized. Currently, the thresholds of measurement event B2 triggering the handover of the UEs from LTE to another RAT are defined by the 3rd generation Partnership Project (3GPP) as cell-specific, and therefore, they cannot be differentiated with respect to each neighboring target cell. In this paper, we analyze the difference between optimizing a single handover threshold in a cell-specific and cell-pair specific ways. Based on this analysis, we investigate three new alternative configuration paradigms for the inter-RAT handover thresholds along with those considered by 3GPP. The performance of the SON-based algorithm optimizing the inter-RAT handover thresholds is evaluated for each configuration paradigm. The simulation results have shown that the three alternative configuration paradigms outperform those used by 3GPP. Among the three configuration paradigms, we propose the one which extends the current 3GPP approach and configures the threshold corresponding to the handover target cell in measurement event B2 as cell-pair specific instead of cell-specific.

Offset assignment (OA) is a highly effective address code optimization technique for embedded processors with limited memory. Modify registers (MRs) concern the offset difference of address code for offset assignment (OA) problems. Address registers (ARs) concern the assignment of program variables for general offset assignment (GOA) problems. This paper proposes a novel MRs and ARs assignment technique for SOA and GOA problems based on specialized DSPs Address generation Units (AGU) machines. A technique to reduce the number of distinct offset difference so as to reduce the modify register assignment instructions was proposed for SOA and during GOA such that the cost is further reduced. An adjustable ARs assignment technique was proposed to reduce the GOA cost and the number of distinct offset difference during GOA. Our experiments show the reduction of the number of distinct offset difference during GOA can also help to improve the GOA cost.

Therefore, building a simple, fast and convenient shopping guide system has become a mutual concern of merchants and customers. In recent times mobile phone has become a popular consumer products, a simple optimization method was given to design shopping guide system run on smart phones, with the help of QR code generation and recognition technology. For efficient shopping system, unique QR codes are created to record the article name, number, location of goods placed. Phone recognizes the QR code through the camera. After being recognized and converted, the code will be compared with the data in the server that is placed in the cloud. It provides different services according to customer's choice Ccustomer receives the latest promotions of businesses, find the best route from his current location to the destination.

Dynamic symbolic execution is a promising approach for software analyzing and testing. However, it fails to scale to large programs due to the exponential number of paths to be explored. This paper focus on tackling loop caused path explosion problems and proposes a new approach to reduce paths that produce the same effects. We present a loop transparency strategy that makes use of the decision graph of under test program to discard constraints that produce paths with only a different number of iterations. A dynamic software testing tool LTDse based on loop transparency is designed and evaluated on three benchmarks. The experimental results show that our approach is effective since it can achieve better code coverage or require fewer program executions than traditional strategies.
