This papers investigates the performance of the fast Fourier transform (FFT) sizes- 64, 128, 256, 512 and 1024 for the orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) scheme in 3rd generation partnership program (3GPP)-long term evolution (LTE) and LTE-Advanced (LTE-A). This paper aims to optimize the FFT sizes with respect to quadrature phase shift keying (QPSK), 16, 64 and 256-quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM). This optimization is for the transmission of LTE signals between eNodeB (eNB) and relay node (RN) to extend the mobile coverage employing radio-over-fibre (RoF). This paper will take into account the positive frequency chirp (PFC) induced by distributed feedback laser (DFB) through direct modulation with chromatic dispersion (CD) and self phase modulation (SPM) impairments into consideration. We present the optimum optical launch power (OLP) region termed as the intermixing region between linear and nonlinear optical fibre propagation. The optimum OLP in this investigation takes place at -4 dBm which falls within the intermixing region. At the transmission rate of 200, 400, 600 and 800 Mb/s of QPSK, 16, 64 and 256-QAM, the FFT size-128 provides the optimum power penalty with average system efficiency with respect to FFT size-64 is 54% and FFT size-256 is 65%.

WLAN has proven itself as the most economical wireless access technology over the time. Its widespread deployment encouraged 3GPP (3rd generation Partnership Project) to standardize the integration of such non-3GPP access technologies into the existing 3GPP access networks. This opened the door of numerous opportunities for network operators to make use of the economical bandwidth from WLAN in enhancing the end user Quality of Experience (QoE). 3GPP leaves it up to the network operators to do their own research and devise their individual algorithms for this purpose. This raises the need for a proper simulation environment supporting a heterogeneous network of access technologies interconnected according to 3GPP specifications. The goal of this work is to develop a network simulator where 4G LTE (Long Term Evolution) and WLAN co-exist. In addition to standard 3GPP network entities and protocols the simulator also provides other features like multi-homing support, user QoE optimization algorithm as well as network bandwidth resource management techniques. We have been developing an MRT (Microbeam Radition Therapy) based on Cs-Te photo-cathode RF-Gun at Waseda University. MRT is proposed to treat tumors by using array of several micro-meter parallel beams. In this therapy, irradiated normal tissue repairs itself, by contrast, even a non-irradiated tumor tissue dies. In the other words, the microbeam enhances the radiation sensitivity difference between normal and tumor issues. Therefore, MRT is considered one of the most useful tumor therapies in the future. We have generated electron microbeam by tungsten collimator slit and analyzed their dose distribution in air and in the PMMA phantom. We have used radiochromic film called GAFCHROMIC dosimetry film type HD-810 to measure them. We have compared these experimental results with Monte Carlo simulation of the dose distribution using the EGS5 code. In this conference, we would like to report the electron microbeam procedure, optimization of irradiation condition and evaluation of microbeam specifications. Coyright © 2012 by IEEE.

This paper considers the general issues in the project and the optimization of energy generation systems using small universal wind turbines, suitable in Distributed generation (DG) and computer aided optimization for a better exploitation of wind source. optimization in this field reveal to be more and more important because the local generation and consumption of electrical power, even for grid connected generators can suffers for unevenness of wind source exploitation, also in terms of wrong directions and in not regular wind flows. Computer aided design and optimization of small plants may give significant improvements in the development of the wind source also in accordance with the projections of future energy policies that foresee a significant increase of the wind generated energy for the future market. The effectiveness of computer aided optimization tools is illustrated in the present paper with the exposition of two case studies. In the first of them a Wind Electrical Energy Generating System is moved by a Modular Multiple Blade Fixed Pitch Wind Turbine coupled with an asynchronous wound rotor generator. In the second case study the optimization regards a Savonius wind turbine and a PM synchronous generator with particular reference to the development of wind source for the wind turbine and the reduction of saturation and of harmonic content in the emf for the electrical machines.

Targeting at a cost-effective deployment of grid-connected PhotoVoltaic (PV) systems, this paper presents a new methodology for the optimal design of transformerless PV inverters, which are based on the Neutral Point Clamped (NPC) and the Active-Neutral Point Clamped (ANPC) topologies. The design optimization results demonstrate that a different set of optimal values of the PV inverter switching frequency and output filter components are derived for the NPC and ANPC topologies, respectively, as well as for each of the PV inverter installation sites under study. The NPC and ANPC PV inverter structures, which are derived using the proposed design optimization methodology exhibit lower Levelized Cost Of generated Electricity (LCOE) and manufacturing cost and they are simultaneously capable to inject more energy into the electric grid than the corresponding non-optimized PV inverters. Thus, the proposed optimal design methodology enables to maximize the economic benefit obtained during the lifetime period of the installed PV system.

Economic performances of a microgrid with multi-energy are effected by many factors such as the configuration of microgrid systems for the specific installation sites and cluster of loads, operation modes and dispatching schedules of the microgrid, the electricity market, energy policy and alike. And the configuration of the microgrid is the premise of all factors. This paper presents an optimization model to quantitatively evaluate the economic impacts of different installation sites on microgrids with multi-energy. In this model, optimal configuration schemes for microgrids installed at typical sites are designed by particle swarm optimization method. The economic performances of optimal configuration schemes are evaluated by the operation simulation with the proposed indexes. Those typical installation sites mentioned above belong to different regions which are divided into the five-level classifications in terms of the richness of wind and solar resource and the distributions of loads in China. The calculation results may be used for the decision-making references by the decision-makers.

Islanding detection (ID) is a mandatory function for PV grid-connected converters. The traditional Sandia frequency shift method for ID becomes ineffective under certain parallel RLC loads. To alleviate this problem, a new methodology to optimize the frequency shift parameter Ks is proposed, and a novel non-detection zone (NDZ) mapping method is presented to map the NDZ influenced by each electrical parameter in this paper. An instability criterion relied on phase equilibrium principle algorithm is presented under specific loads to analyze the relationship between parameters and the reduction of NDZ. The proposed algorithm can keep the frequency of inverter output voltage deviating until the protection circuit is triggered with lower harmonic current. Single-phase photovoltaic grid-connected simulation system and experimental platform are constructed according to IEEE Std. 2000-929. Both the simulation and experimental results prove the robustness and effectiveness of the proposed parameter optimization algorithm.

This paper identifies recent plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) and hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) literature for the purpose of analysis in determining future direction. The authors have utilized and expanded on a procedure for analyzing control strategies which is found in Wirasingha et al. The existing procedure allocates control strategies into the four categories previously determined optimization based blended control, rule based blended control, multi-mode control, and hybrid only control and is given the heading control paradigms in this paper. Extending on this control strategy classification in the identification of the control paradigms, the ranking of individual controllers is undertaken in the control schemes section of this paper, to scrutinize the advantages and disadvantages of each system. This ranking system identifies three control strategies of significant interest to PHEV and HEV operation; predictive optimization, adaptive equivalent consumption minimization strategy (A-ECMS), and online optimization controllers. Additionally the analysis completed identifies a comparison of selected controller performance attributes namely: accuracy, computational complexity, a priori knowledge and portability, which determine the potential outcomes of integrating control systems with the respective strategies. From the analysis of existing literature the summary of this article realizes the PHEV and HEV operation and control design criteria that have shown significant improvements to performance and that are of particular importance for future design integration and implementation.

This paper presents an original hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) solution for real-time testing and optimization of the frequency control mechanism in autonomous microgrids (MG), when battery energy storage systems (BESS) are integrated along classical and RES-based generators to stabilize the frequency. The focus is on autonomous MGs that dynamically should perform similarly to the conventional power systems. During MG autonomous operation, the generators should accomplish the frequency control process, by means of their automatic generation control. However, RES-based generators have poor controllability in terms of active power, and therefore the need of improving the MG power reserve by adding energy storage systems is often demanded. The proposed HIL solution aims to improve the design of the BESS frequency control systems according to the MG characteristics, being based on aggregated models of the involved mechanisms in the MG dynamics. An experimental test bench including a real-time digital simulator with BESS controller in the HIL structure is used for assessing the proposed system performances.

The growth of world energy demand and the environmental concerns lead to an increase of renewable energy production over the last decade. The increased number of grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) systems gave rise to problems concerning the stability and safety of the utility grid, as well as power quality issues. Lately, PV generators are required, according to the new German Grid code (GC), to contribute to the grid stability and to provide grid classical functions during normal and abnormal operation. The purpose of this article is to investigate and optimize the standard voltage regulation methods for low voltage (LV) grid-connected PV systems. Reactive power supply strategy proposed by the German GC Q(U) is investigated and simulated performing load flow analysis on a European residential network benchmark. In order to improve the reactive power transfer in the system, an optimized algorithm of voltage regulation is designed with the aim of minimizing the losses in the system for a better integration of PV power generation into the grid.
