We present an efficient and fast algorithm for 3D mesh deformation in this paper. By edge collapse mesh simplification, our algorithm simplifies the original shape to a reduced mesh, which contains the salient feature of the original 3D shape. For the reduced mesh, we specify an affine transformation for each vertex called key point. According to the user's manipulation, the fixed or moved constraints are imposed on some key points. Using a nonlinear optimization, the transformation matrixes of all the key points are solved. Then, for the original shape, all the vertexes can be mapped, based on the affine transformation of key points, to the new position to realize 3D shape deformation. Our algorithm resolves the transformation matrix of the key points instead that of all the vertexes of original shape, such that it can retrench the computational cost and realize real-time display, while gain the detail preserved 3D deformation. © 2010 IEEE.

CUDA facilitates the development of General Purpose computing on Graphics Processing Units (GPGPU), however, its complex memory system, thread-level structure, and data transmission control between memories have brought great challenges for programming on GPU. In order to facilitate the development of parallel programs on GPU and reuse existing sequential codes, in this paper we propose a novel directive based compiler guided approach. Through combining automatic mapping and static compilation, we have implemented a prototype of automatic source-to-source translation tool named GPU-S2S, capable of translating the C sequential code with directives into CUDA code. Experimental results show that CUDA code generated by GPU-S2S can achieve comparable performance with that of CUDA benchmark provided by NVIDIA CUDA SDK, and has significant performance improvements compared with its original C sequential code.

Dynamic Binary Translation (DBT) is widely used, but it suffers from substantial overhead. Several methods are taken to improve its performance, such as linking/chaining, building super block according to profiling and/or tracing. Reorganizing code layout of software cache can also improve performance on the ground that the execution stream will be more approximate to its control flow. Once the target code in software cache is reframed properly, hot code will be gathered together and well organized. Because of exact prediction and improved locality, the execution stream will concentrate on a small area with less control transfer. In this paper, we designed a new approach using dynamic-static combined framework to reorganize code layout of software cache. Then we compare it with another two conventional types of code layout in detail. Experimental result shows that our method can significantly cut down the overhead. The overall run time reduced by about 30% on average. Finally, we analyze the reason why reorganizing code layout can improve the performance of dynamic binary translator from several different perspectives.

A hybrid differential evolution (HDE) approach derived from both the differential evolution (DE) and the particle swarm optimization (PSO) is proposed. In HDE, individuals in a new generation are created, not only by crossover and mutation operation as in DE, but also by PSO operations. The concepts of inertia weight and neighbor topology are adopted in HDE. The former is employed to provide consistency and diversity by adding a weighted velocity to the trial vector. In the latter, instead of the whole population, each individual can only communicate with its neighbors, and each individual creates its trial vector based on the best individual found by its neighbors so far. The proposed approach is employed for four well-known benchmarks, and the simulation results have shown its feasibility and effectiveness.

A new method of optimized path planning about smart card based on Dijkstra algorithm is proposed in this paper, for the path planning problem of China road charges. The IC Card Key Infrastructure and CRC check code technology of city uni-card system are combined in the algorithm, and the division with the shortest path using the minimum rate of fees is formed based on the recursive optimized and improved algorithm. The algorithm has been applied in the smart IC toll charges system. Practice has shown that it's a relatively short period of time to find the optimal solution, and to charge accurately, to ease the traffic and road network, and also meets the requirements of real-time charges.

A previously developed AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) implementation is optimized and described in this paper. The special architecture for which this implementation is targeted comprises synchronous and systematic bit serial processing without a central controlling instance. In order to shrink the design in terms of logic utilization we deeply analyzed the architecture and the AES implementation to identify the most costly logic elements. We propose to merge certain parts of the logic to achieve better area efficiency. The approach was integrated into an existing synthesis tool which we used to produce synthesizable VHDL code. For testing purposes, we simulated the generated VHDL code and ran tests on an FPGA board.

The use of Model-Driven Engineering (MDE) techniques in the domain of distributed embedded real-time systems are gain importance in order to cope with the increasing design complexity of such systems. This paper discusses an infrastructure created to build GenERTiCA, a flexible tool that supports a MDE approach, which uses aspect-oriented concepts to handle nonfunctional requirements from embedded and real-time systems domain. GenERTiCA generates source code from UML models, and also performs weaving of aspects, which have been specified within the UML model. Additionally, this paper discusses the Distributed Embedded Real-Time Compact Specification (DERCS), a PIM created to support UML-based code generation tools. Some heuristics to transform UML models into DERCS, which have been implemented in GenERTiCA, are also discussed.

In many application occasions, symmetry or antisymmetry of wavelet is fairly important to signal processing. In mid 1990s, Sweldens advanced the lifting wavelet transform. Compared with the first-generation wavelet, the lifting scheme could complete the wavelet transform currently without allocating additional memory, so it is easy to achieve with chips;the algorithm is simple and suitable for parallel processing, which makes the computation more fast;it could realize integral wavelet transform, which has wide potential applications. The paper analyzes the wavelet lifting algorithm and its poly-phase decomposition mechanism and approaches the image processing algorithm based on lifting wavelet transform. Since the structure of lifting wavelet is independent of Fourier Transform, conducting image fusion by using the lifting wavelet could improve the processing speed and save memory. ©2009 IEEE.

A general model for the study and optimization of reversed cycle thermal machines with two heat reservoirs is presented. The model is based oil the First and Second Laws or Thermodynamics, heat transfer equations at finite thermal source and sink capacities, and entropy generation terms in order to consider the internal and external irreversibilities of the cycle. The proposed model is applied to real-operating machines for which several constraints are imposed. Some results generated by the model when applied to refrigeration machines are presented. They point out interesting results regarding the limits of the variation range for the model variables Under different operating conditions and also for different variation laws for the internal entropy generation term. Sensitivity Studies with respect to the evaporator heat transfer area and other decision parameters show the dependence of the refrigerating machines performances on the model variables and decision parameters and what the investment concern is with respect to the gain in performances. Experimental data are Used in this study, in comparison with the analytical ones. Copyright (C) 2008 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Formal models are often considered for software systems specification, and are helpful for verifying that certain properties are respected, or for automatically generating the implementation code corresponding to the model, or again for conformance testing, for the automatic generation of test cases to check an implementation against the formal specification. Variations of Finite State Machine (FSM) models have been mostly used for conformance testing, while the otherwise very popular formal model of Petri Nets is seldom mentioned in this context. In this paper, we look at the question of conformance testing when the model is provided in the form of 1-safe Petri Net. We provide a general framework for conformance testing, and give algorithms for deriving test cases under different assumptions: Besides the adaptation of methods originally developed for FSMs which lead to exponentially long test sequences, we have identified cases for which polynomial testing algorithms for free-choice Petri nets can be provided. These results are significant when modeling concurrent systems, as exemplified by workflow modeling.
