The authors experimented on an AGV driving test with a color CCD camera. This paper can be divided into two parts. One is the image processing part to measure the condition of the guideline and AGV. The other obtains the reference steering angle through using the image processing parts. First, the two dimensional information of image derived from the vision sensor is interpreted to 3 dimension information by the angle and position of the CCD camera. Through these processes, the AGV knows its driving conditions. Using this information, the AGV calculates the reference steering angle changed by its speed. In the case of low speed, it focuses on the left/right error values of the guideline. As the speed of the AGV increases, it focuses on the slope of the guideline. Lastly, the authors model the above descriptions to the type of PID controller and regulate the coefficient value of the AGV speed.

Large-scale processing systems for producing information from high data rate instruments have traditionally been built using large, expensive multi-processor computer systems. In the last few years, improvements in commodity computing systems and storage devices have brought them to the performance territory once held exclusively by the likes of DEC, SGI, Sun, and IBM. We are now building a data processing system using PC-class machines for the Ozone Monitoring Instrument (OMI) that will be launched in 2003. OMI has a 1Mbit/second data rate and will run continuously for five years. The OMI production system, which is based on the 3/sup rd/ generation Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) data processing system, will use a heterogeneous set of low-cost processors, high-volume disks, and fast networks to provide impressive throughput for an exceptionally low cost. This approach provides an attractive alternative to the high initial outlay and continuing support costs of the traditional "heavy iron" systems.

In this paper, the concept of a 3 layer distributed sensor network for patient monitoring and care is introduced. The envisioned network has a leaf node layer (consisting of patient sensors), a intermediate node layer (consisting of the supervisory processor residing with each patient) and the root node processor (residing at a central monitoring facility). The introduced paradigm has the capability of dealing with the bandwidth bottleneck at the wireless patient - root node link and the processing bottleneck at the central processor or root node of the network.

We present a new design of wireless personal area network with physiological sensors for medical applications in telemedical environment. Intelligent wireless sensors perform data acquisition and limited processing. Individual sensors monitor specific physiological signals (such as EEG, EGG, GSR, etc.) and communicate with each other and the personal server. Personal server integrates information from different sensors and communicates with the rest of telemedical system as a standard mobile unit. We present our prototype implementation of Wireless Intelligent sensor (WISE) based on a very low power consumption microcontroller and a DSP-based personal server. In future we expect all components of WISE integrated in a single chip for use in a variety of new medical applications and sophisticated human computer interfaces.

Smart Technologies such as Neural networks and Expert Systems have been successfully applied to many industrial problems, and are the focus of a number of preliminary investigations involving the condition monitoring of large complex machinery installations. Plant such as power generators, letter sorters and food processing equipment are all indicative of the types of machinery that generate diverse, inter-related condition indicators. Whilst many of these measures can be processed by expensive focussed systems, no currently available system is able to provide a comprehensive analysis of all of a machines parameters and present this information in a coherent and useful manner. This can inhibit a plant manager's ability to make correct maintenance decisions. This paper describes an aspect of the NEURAL-MAINE project, which is developing a modular approach utilising Smart Technologies, Data Fusion and multiple sensor technologies, allowing for a comprehensive On-line monitoring and diagnostic capabilities, and focuses on the Concentrator element of the system. Generally, the weld bead shape is a serious factor of a falling-off in weld quality among various kinds of weld defect. In GMAW, weld bead shape affects a number of welding parameters including;welding current, voltage, speed and weaving length and so on. To detect weld bead shape, we select proper welding parameters in a number of factors. But we have a trouble to analyze relationship between weld bead shape and welding parameters due to non-linearity of welding process. In case of using arc sensor, thought arc sensor has signal processing problem, it is still used in the great part of the present industrial field. Because it is low cost and easily automates. As mentioned about the various difficult problems and the properties of arc sensor, in this paper, proper welding parameters were selected and weld bead shape detecting system was proposed, using neural networks which were able to identify relation between weld bead shape and the welding parameters. Also, in neural controller, the Time Delay Neural Network (TDNN) were used in this proposed neural network, due to non-linearity of welding process. Besides, in welding quality test, it is important to analyze weld bead shape. In this paper, proper welding parameters and fifteen points that represent weld bead shape were selected, and it was proposed that real-time monitoring system of weld bead shape to find effect of various welding parameters and estimate weld quality using neural network.

Virtual Enterprises are being built on an Internet back-bone, for which security provisioning is an obvious first concern. However, additional sen,ices need provisioning as well. For instance, contracted arrangements for quality inspection, notification of delay, and other such coordinations can be provided by semi-autonomous agent-based services. We introduce information contracts, which specify the commitments of ContractAgents to each other Based on human-readable contract templates with fill-in-the-blank terms, ContractAgents manage the negotiation stage between user specialists and then operationalize and ensure these commitments during enactment. Building on the idea of agent-based sphere of commitments (SoComs) to overcome weaknesses in extended transaction processing and traditional workflow management, we show how ContractAgents also need to be positioned within the security architecture of virtual private networks. The standardization of contracts, SoCom servers, and operationalized commitments can then provide a basis for compliance checks by trusted third parties and oversight authorities.

This paper* presents the theory and formalism of fuzzy causal probabilistic networks (FCPN) and show their current and potential applications in multisensor data fusion. A fuzzy causal probabilistic network (FCPN) is a directed acyclic graph representing the joint probability distributions of a set of fuzzy random variables describing a problem domain;FCPNs extend causal probabilistic networks (CPN), also called Bayesian networks, belief networks, or influence diagrams, by associating each discrete variable with a fuzzifier and a defuzzifier, if required. A fuzzifier converts a crisp variable to a fuzzy discrete variable while a defuzzifier does the inverse. FCPNs provide a high-level generic architecture for fusing data incoming from multiple sensors. The paper also provides an overview on the held of multisensor data fusion. Airborne early warning and control using multiple sensors is studied to showcase the theory of FCPNs and their applications for multisensor data fusion.
