We propose a diffusion expectation-maximization algorithm with adaptive combiner for distributed estimation over sensor networks. Due to the spatial distribution of the nodes, variation of node profile across the network is a common phenomena in real applications. The unreliable nodes exist and provide inaccurate estimates, which may be caused by high levels of noise or malicious attacks. Instead of using a static combiner, an efficient adaptive combination scheme is developed by formulating it as a l(0)-norm regularized minimum variance unbiased estimation problem. The proposed algorithm is robust to the variation of node profile across the network. Furthermore, it can be extended for node-specific processing. Each node estimates a subset of the global variable of the whole network.

Conflagration is one of the major disasters that threatens human life and property. If the proper action is not taken in detecting the symptom of conflagration events ahead of time, the number of such disasters will keep increasing. An effective solution in this context will alleviate many fire-related global problems to a great extent. Although fire detectors are not available in many places, WiFi networks are increasingly prevalent nowadays. Motivated by the previous works that used WiFi signals for the purpose of environment monitoring and activity recognition, we make an attempt to use WiFi signals to detect fire. Through several experiments, we find that fire influences the transmission of wireless signals uniquely, and consequently it affects the amplitude and phase of the resultant Channel State information (CSI). Based on this observation, in this paper, we propose a device-free fire detection system, namely Wi-Fire, using commercial WiFi devices. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first work that leverages CSI of radio frequency (RF) signal to detect fire events using existing wireless infrastructure without requiring any additional device. We implement our proposed system on desktop computers equipped with commercial 802.11n network interface cards (NICs). Comprehensive experiments have been conducted for different scenarios in different environments to verify the effectiveness of our proposed system. The results verify that the fire detection accuracy of this training-based system is up to 96.67% on average.

Recently, wireless sensor in the video surveillance system plays an important role, but the sensor operation is limited by battery capacity. Obviously, the technique to reduce power consumption is necessary. In this paper, a novel lossless embedded compression (EC) algorithm is proposed to reduce the memory bandwidth in video coding. It comprises two core techniques of Multi-directional Gradient Detection Prediction (MGDP) and Finer-opportune Golomb-Rice Code (FOGC). The experiment results reveal that the memory bandwidth can be reduced by an average of 41%.

This work documents our investigation of multiple target tracking filters in proximity sensor networks when the target power levels are not known. The challenge is that when the targets are close, it is hard to determine if the sensor reports are the results of a loud target or multiple quiet targets. Given the binary measurements: 1 for detection of targets and 0 for nondetection of targets, the works studies the feasibility of using the joint multitarget particle filter to estimate the number of targets, and at the same time estimate the 5D target states including the positions, velocities and power levels.

The relatively recent availability of operational products from Sentinel-2 and Sentinel-3 missions gives widespread opportunities to combine data collected from different sensors in order to provide products of a higher processing level. Nonetheless, the availability of these products may be affected by multiple factors, such as cloud occlusions, band saturation, geolocation errors or even misaligned detectors. All these anomalies affecting remote sensing data may eventually limit the accessibility to fused products because some of the required information may become partially unavailable for specific areas of interest. In this scenario, the work presented here aims at analyzing the effectiveness of several state-of-the-art regression models in order to restore Sentinel-3 products with partial anomalies from Sentinel-2 integral data. In particular this work investigates three regression methods, two linear-regression method and a non-linear artificial neural networks based method. Obtained results prove that the nonlinear approach and linear RIDGE method are able to carry out a good estimation of S3 from S2 data.

A wireless medical biosensor using Human Body Communication(HBC)for data transmission is presented in this paper. HBC is included in the IEEE Standard 802.15.6 for Local and Metropolitan Area Network and presents the characteristic of being a new non-radio frequency type of wireless communication as it uses the human body as a transmission medium. The multiple access technique should be Time Division Multiple Access(TDMA) and data are transmitted over HBC capacitive coupling aside from a bio-signal sensing system. The transmitter time characteristics shows the feasibility of implementing a TDMA body sensors star network centralized into a single hub for a single connection to Wide Area networks. The proposed system is composed by a bio-sensor unit and an HBC transmitter.

Wireless sensor Network (WSN) has set of wireless sensor nodes that are used to generate or sense the high volume of raw data from the environment, transmits the data to its respective sink node. The processing of raw data requires more amount of energy from sensor nodes to sink node or base station through single-hop or multi-hop communication over the nodes. In this context, sensor data need to be quality of data with semantic information in terms of semantic data integration and fusion and data processing, and so on. In order to problem of semantic data and managing raw data in WSN effectively, the Semantic sensor Web (SSW) is taken into the wireless sensor networks. The SSW is promising technology for realizing the use of sensor data and semantic web that provide the semantic information to existing sensor networks by utilizing domain, spatial and temporal ontologies and other related semantic technology. This paper presents survey of data processing in SSW from various aspects. Besides, it presents the architecture of SSW and its advantages.

Due to its fast growth, Cloud computing is a quick evolving research area. Security, which is among the most required Cloud features, is a very hard and challenging task when it's addressed for large networked systems. To automate security assessment, one should use an Attack Representation Model (ARM), such as Attack Graph (AG) or Attack Tree, to represent and analyze multi-host multi-stage attacks. In order to improve AG analysis for large-scale networked systems, our framework uses Software-defined Networking (SDN) to build a detailed and dynamic knowledge about the network configuration and the host access control list. Altogether with machine configuration information, our framework will be able to construct loosely connected sub-groups of virtual machines and perform a parallel security analysis. We have performed experimental validation using a real networked system to show the performance improvement in comparison with MULVAL network security analyzer.
