In a wireless sensor network (WSN), in order to provide a secure communication environment for all the sensor nodes, we often securely authenticate network nodes and protect all the messages delivered among them. When a sensor node (or simply a node or a sensor) newly joins a WSN, it is required for the Key Distribution Server (KDS) to distribute those generated security keys to this node and all the existing nodes before they can securely communicate with each other. But due to the wireless nature, when a node broadcasts a message M, all its neighbors can receive M. To securely protect this message, a security mechanism is required. Therefore, in this paper we propose a Multiple-key Management Scheme (MMaS for short), in which a sensor N receives two sets of keys from the KDS when the system starts up. The first set, named communication keys, is used by N to securely communicate with its neighbor sensors;the other, called the individual key, is employed to encrypt messages delivered between N and the KDS. When N would like to communicate with another node, e.g., M, they exchange their IDs with each other so as to correctly identify their common keys (CKs), which are used to individually generate a shared key (SK) on both sides for encrypting/decrypting messages transmitted between them. When N leaves the underlying network, the CKs currently related to N can be reused by a newly joining sensor, e.g., M. However, when M joins the network, if no such used ID is available, M will be given a new ID and CKs by the KDS. The KDS will encrypt the CKs, that will be used by an existing node H to communicate with M, with the individual key of H so that only H rather than M can correctly decrypt the CKs, with which to securely communicate with M. The security analysis shows that the proposed system is secure. © IFIP international Federation for information processing 2013.

The ever increasing complexity of embedded systems demands for rising memory size, and larger memories increase the power drain. In this work, we exploit banked memories with independent low-leakage retention mode in event-driven applications. The resulting energy saving for a given number of banks is close to the maximum achievable value, since the memory banks access pattern of event-driven applications presents a high temporal locality, leading to a low saving loss due to wake-up transitions. Results show an energy reduction up to 77.4% for a memory of ten banks with a partition overhead of 1%. © IFIP international Federation for information processing 2013.

Indoor physical security, as a perpetual and multi-layered phenomenon, is a timeintensive and labor-consuming task. Various technologies have been leveraged to develop automatic access control, intrusion detection, or video monitoring systems. Video surveillance has been significantly enhanced by the advent of Pan-Tilt-Zoom (PTZ) cameras and advanced video processing, which together enable effective monitoring and recording. The development of ubiquitous object identification and tracking technologies provide the opportunity to accomplish automatic access control and tracking. Intrusion detection has also become possible through deploying networks of motion sensors for alerting about abnormal behaviors. However, each of the above-mentioned technologies has its own limitations. This paper presents a fully automated indoor security solution that leverages an Ultra-wideband (UWB) Real-Time Locating System (RTLS), PTZ surveillance cameras and a Building information Model (BIM) as three sources of environmental data. Providing authorized persons with UWB tags, unauthorized intruders are distinguished as the mismatch observed between the detected tag owners and the persons detected in the video, and intrusion alert is generated. PTZ cameras allow for wide-area monitoring and motion-based recording. Furthermore, the BIM is used for space modeling and mapping the locations of intruders in the building. Fusing UWB tracking, video and spatial data can automate the entire security procedure from access control to intrusion alerting and behavior monitoring. Other benefits of the proposed method include higher accuracy and robustness, more complex query processing, and interoperability with other BIM-based solutions. A prototype system is implemented that demonstrates the feasibility of the proposed method.

In the application based WSN environment, energy and bandwidth of the sensor are valuable resources and need to utilize efficiently. Data aggregation at the sink by individual node causes flooding of the data which results in maximum energy consumption. To minimize this problem we propose and evaluate the group based data aggregation method, where grouping of nodes based on available data and correlation in the intra-cluster and grouping of cluster heads at the network level help to reduce the energy consumption. In addition, proposed method uses additive and divisible data aggregation function at cluster head (CH) as in-network processing to reduce energy consumption. Cluster head transmits aggregated information to remote sink and cluster head nodes transmit data to CH. Simulation result shows, proposed algorithm provides an improvement of 14.94% in energy consumption as compared with primary cluster based protocol LEACH which uses only one CH, it also improves the network stability.

Because of real wireless sensor network node distribution uniformity, this paper presents a clustering strategy based on the ant colony clustering algorithm(ACC-C). To reduce the energy consumption of the head near the base station and the whole network, The algorithm uses ant colony clustering on non-uniform clustering. The improve route optimal degree is presented to evaluate the performance of the chosen route. Simulation results show that, compared with other algorithms, like the LEACH algorithm and the improve particle cluster kind of clustering algorithm(PSC- C), the proposed approach is able to keep away from the node with less residual energy, which can improve the life of networks.

While size and complexity of sensor networks software has increased significantly in recent years, the hardware capabilities of sensor nodes have been remaining very constrained. The predominant event-based programming paradigm addresses these hardware constraints, but does not scale well with the growing software complexity, often leading to software that is hard-to-manage and error-prone. Thread abstractions could remedy this situation, but existing solutions in sensor networks either provide incomplete thread semantics or introduce a significant resource overhead. This reflects the common understanding that one has to trade expressiveness for efficiency and vice versa. Our work, however, shows that this trade-off is not inherent to resource-constrained systems. We propose a comprehensive compiler-assisted cooperative threading abstraction, where full-fledged thread-based C code is translated to efficient event-based C code that runs atop an event-based operating system such as Contiki or TinyOS. Our evaluation shows that our approach outperforms thread libraries and generates code that is almost as efficient as hand-written event-based code with overheads of 1 % RAM, 2 % CPU, and 3 % ROM.

In this paper we present a room-to-room thermal model used to accurately predict temperatures in residential buildings. We evaluate the accuracy of this model with ground truth data from four occupied family homes (two in the UK and two in the US). The homes have differing construction and a range of heating infrastructure (wall-mounted radiators, underfloor heating, and furnace-driven forced-air). Data was gathered using a network of simple and sparse (one per room) temperature sensors, a gas meter sensor, and an outdoor temperature sensor. We show that our model can predict future indoor temperature trends with a 90 th percentile aggregate error between 0.61-1.50°C, when given boiler or furnace actuation times and outdoor temperature forecasts. Two existing models were also implemented and then evaluated on our dataset alongside Matchstick. As a proof of concept, we used data from a previous control study to show that when Matchstick is used to predict temperatures (rather than assuming a preset linear heating rate) the possible gas savings increase by up to 3%.

For the deep-hole drilling bit works in closed or half-closed condition and the cutting situation can not be observed and controlled directly,it brings a big challenge to monitor the cutting tools and the cutting *** solve the problem,improved testing methods and data processing techniques were developed.A new condition monitoring method of deep-hole drilling based on multi-sensor data fusion was discussed in the *** signals of vibration and cutting force were collected when the condition of deep-hole drilling on stainless steel was normal and *** eigenvectors were extracted on time-domain analysis and frequency-domain analysis of the *** the combined four eigenvectors were sent to BP neural networks data fusioning *** fusioning results indicate that cutting force signal can reflect the condition of drill bit better than vibration signal and multi-sensor data fusion is superior to single-sensor.
