Wireless sensornetworks consist of various sensor nodes which operate in a memory, energy and bandwidth constrained environment. Target tracking is an important application in wireless sensornetworks and in this paper we propose an energy aware target tracking ( EATT) algorithm. Energy efficiency is obtained due to the novel concept of tracking being performed in a collaborative manner by different cluster heads instead of using a base station. This helps to minimize the energy required for communication. Taking into consideration the unique energy constraints of motes we reduce the computational complexity of the tracking algorithm by using simple optimization technique. In this paper, we shall briefly discuss our tracking approach and then focus on the advantages of program optimization in wireless sensornetworks. The work presented demonstrates the viability of achieving real time energy efficient target tracking by using simple optimization technique for a tracking algorithm implemented in TinyOS. The simulation results show that the proposed technique reduces the energy consumption by at least 20% and memory requirement by at least 6% as compared to the conventional techniques used in wireless sensor network.

Video is an important medium for the observation of a variety of phenomena in the physical world such as for water conservancy engineering. Video sensornetworks (VSN) consists of a large number of sensor nodes with cheap CMOS cameras, therefore, it has the ability of large scale visual monitoring. However, a kind of powerful and scalable platform is urgent for simulation and development of VSN. This paper proposed a novel and scalable video sensornetworks platform named as Vision Mesh for water conservancy engineering. Vision Mesh is composed of a mass of image or video sensor nodes - Vision Motes, with which multi-view image or video information of FOV (Field of View) can be acquired simply. Vision Mote is built with Atmel ARM9 CPU and operated on Linux operating system, with TI CC2430 Zigbee module taken as wireless transceiver. Furthermore, OpenCV machine vision lib is migrated to Vision Mesh platform so as to improve video processing ability, therefore, Vision Mesh has the ability of image and video processing and is of strong scalability to extend performance. In this paper, we provide an overview of Vision Mesh architecture and provide an insightful platform for VSN.

Wireless sensornetworks are an important research area that has attracted a lot of attention in the past few years. Most of this attention, however, has focused on wireless sensor network collect scalar data such as temperature and vibration. Scalar data is insufficient for many applications such as video surveillance and traffic monitoring. Whereas, camera sensors collect video data, which are rich in information and offer tremendous potential when used in wireless sensornetworks. Video sensornetworks continue to gain increase interest due to their ability to collect video information for a wide range of applications in recent years. However, knowledge about these types of networks is mostly related to visual algorithms, leaving the issues such as the coverage of video sensor network and the transmission of video data aside. In this paper, we first highlight the issues and opportunities of video sensor network. And then we discuss key research issue on video sensor network, specifically camera coverage problem, network architecture, and low-power video data processing and communication. Finally, we identify enabling approaches in this area.

The aim of this study is to develop a system for extracting information during postural stability tests, using a new capacitive force sensor conceived and made by us. Based on the capacitive force sensor, we developed a pedometric force plate (PFP) for use in human postural and gait analysis. We present the method of data acquisition, the signal processing and the results obtained. For determining a relationship between the force signal parameters (spectrum, COP (Center of Pressure) trajectories) and subjects' postural behavior, six healthy persons were tested. The Fourier spectra were determined for every force sensor and for the COP. Also, the gait line was determined for three subjects who achieved a short walk before the postural test.
