Providing security for wireless sensor networks is challenging due to the resource limitations of sensor nodes. Leveraging the broadcast nature of wireless communication, we propose a behavior-based approach for attack detection and reporting in WSNs. In our approach, some ADS capable nodes are chosen for judging the behavior of their neighbors and conveying alarms to an administration sink when attacks are detected. We prove that the optimal selection of ADS capable nodes for minimum resource consumption is a NP-hard problem and present two heuristic algorithms for it. We also prove the effectiveness of our approach through extensive simulation experiments. © 2010 IEEE.

Vehicle access control system is an important sub-system of the intelligentized residence section. Today, in a growing emphasis on personal and property safety, the control of vehicles' access authorization and the management of the vehicles' access authority, access time and access method via computer, is safe and convenient. This paper describes a set of vehicle access control system based on ZigBee wireless technology. In this system, ZigBee coordinator and its terminal nodes installed respectively in the entrance of the district and the vehicles, together form a ZigBee wireless sensor network. This paper mainly introduces the overall structure, hardware platform and software design of this system. The implementation and performance tests of this system are fairly good.

This study deals with the problem of congestion in wireless sensor networks (WSNs) and proposes a robust and self-adaptable nature-inspired congestion control approach for realtime event-based applications. WSNs face important limitations in terms of energy, memory and computational power. The uncontrolled use of limited resources in conjunction with the unpredictable nature of WSNs in terms of traffic load injection, wireless channel capacity fluctuations and topology modifications (e.g. due to node failures) may lead to congestion. Inspiration is drawn from the flocking and obstacle avoidance behavior of birds to 'guide' packets bypass obstacles like congestion regions and dead node zones. Recent studies showed that the flock-based congestion control (Flock-CC) approach is robust, self-adaptable and energy-efficient, involving minimal information exchange and computational burden when used in uniform grid topologies. The applicability of the Flock-CC in random topologies is investigated in this paper. Performance evaluations showed that Flock-CC was able to both alleviate congestion and minimize energy tax. Also, Flock-CC demonstrated robustness against failing nodes, and outperformed other congestion-aware routing approaches in terms of packet delivery ratio, end-to-end delay and energy tax. ©2010 IEEE.

Text clustering is an important technology for automatically structuring large document collections. It is much more valuable in peer-to-peer networks. T he high dimensionality of documents means much more communication could be saved if each node could get the approximate clustering result by distributed algorithm instead of transferring them into a center and do the clustering. Most of the existing text clustering algorithms in unstructured peer-to-peer networks are based on K-means algorithm. A problem of those algorithms is that the clustering quality may decreased with the increase of the network size. In this paper, we propose a text clustering algorithm based on frequent term sets for peer-to-peer networks. It requires relatively lower communication volume while achieving a clustering result whose quality will not be affected by the size of the network. Moreover, it gives a term set describing each cluster, which makes it possible for people to have a clear comprehension for the clustering result, and facilitates the users to find resource in the network or manage the local documents in accordance with the whole network. © 2010 IEEE.

K-coverage algorithm is widely used in wireless sensor networks (WSN) of the forest fire detection and monitoring system. However, the sensing ability of a sensor node is non-uniform in all directions in shadowed environments. So, the optimized algorithm (SK-coverage) should be well proposed in this paper. The reliability of the collected data and the network lifetime are paid close attention to by the algorithm. The simulation result shows that the algorithm can supply the network with higher reliable collected data all long and low whole network energy consumption, compared with the former k-coverage algorithms, which do not consider the shadowed factors for the sensor nodes. © 2010 IEEE.

Field surveillance is one of the most important applications for wireless sensor networks. Many sensors are deployed in a region of concern to detect any potential targets. On the contrary, intelligent target finds out the deployed sensors to destroy for fear of being detected and leads to defunct surveillance. Due to the importance of sensor nodes, it is necessary to hide them from the scope of target. In this paper, we introduce Proactive Stealthiness as the natural immune system covered on sensor networks. We model the stealthiness problem, and propose a distributed marking algorithm based on Breadth-First Spanning Tree. Different from previous works which only introduce self protection to wireless sensor networks, we not only maintain the connectivity of all dominating sensors but achieve the minimum hops of urgent message to gateway. This makes the method proposed more practical and sensible. Extensive simulation confirms the performance of algorithms proposed and Experimental result manifests the feasibility and efficiency. © 2010 IEEE.

The main contribution of this paper was to propose a dynamic and objective model of E-business website quality management. The key quality factors, quality characters and sub-characters from the user's perspective were discussed firstly, they formed the inherent causality relationship. The theoretical background of Bayesian Network was presented briefly. Applying the Bayesian Network, the E-business website quality management model was shaped. The Overall quality was presented as the central node, and it was followed by five quality factors: Tongibles, Reliability, Responsiveness, Assureance and Empathy. Every quality factors followed by several quality characters. Each quality character node was connected to a number of sub-characters, while the sub-characters as the root nodes. The presented model can be utilized in two ways. The forward reasoning applied on the Bayesian Network could evaluate the E-business website quality, and it also can be used by the designer to aiding in quality assurance during the website development. The backward reasoning could be utilized on quality diagnosis, quality improvement and allocation of resource. Several examples were illustrated in this paper, and the advantages and disadvantages were discussed in the end. © 2010 IEEE.

Based on the analysis of the existing utility-based forwarding mechanisms, for the inefficient forwarding of history encounter time based forwarding mechanism in the initial phase of the node movement, a Random and Encounter Time Based algorithm named RET is proposed in this paper. RET divides the nodes moving into two phases - random forwarding phase (initial phase) and utility-based forwarding phase. In random forwarding phase, random algorithm is used to forward packets. And in utility-based forwarding phase, the packets are forwarded by using utility value. The results of simulation experiment show that the RET algorithm can reduce the delivery delay under low node density. © 2010 IEEE.

Wireless sensor networks have critical resource constraints and minimizing resources usage is crucial to extend the network lifetime. Energy saving in WSNs can be achieved through several techniques, such as topology control and clustering, to provide a longer lifetime and scalability to the network. In this paper we propose a semantic clustering model based on a fuzzy inference system to find out the semantic neighborhood relationships in the network. As a case study we describe the structural health monitoring domain application which has been used to illustrate and verify the proposed model. © IFIP international Federation for information processing 2010.
