With the rapid development of computer communication and web technology, especially the widely application of wireless sensor and embedded technology, Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) have been paid great attention in industry field and our daily life. WSNs based on ARM7TDMI-S CPU and ZigBee device has merit of rapid and simple in networking, node movable in application, abundant information in acquisition, real time collaboration in communication, low power consumption in continuous operation, so it is very suitable for targeting miner's position underground. In this paper, networking scheme of the WSN is presented, and distributed information processing, communication technology and real time collaboration are focused on. Miner's information in mobile is obtained accurately by sensor. After that position information is transmitted reliably to monitoring center. Test result in continuous operation shows there is no information loss or undetected. Therefore this scheme is stable and effective, which will play a positive role for security in coal mine by right of characteristics of Zigbee WSNs in my opinion.

The study of wireless sensor networks (WSN)recently has drawn a lot of attention. Such networks are composed of a large number of tiny wireless sensors, which have limited calculating capability as well as limited power typically supplied by microelectronics hardware. How to prolong network lifetime while maintaining a sufficient sensing area has been one of the most important issues in WSN research. In a high-density environment of sensor networks, excessive working sensors could cause several problems, such as excessive sensing or channel congestion. In this paper, we present a novel approach to partition sensors in the WSN, called node coverage grouping (NCG). sensors in the connectivity group are within sensing range of each other, and data collected by sensors in a connectivity group are assumed to be similar. In this paper, we also prove that partitioning n nodes by node coverage grouping into connectivity groups is a NP-hard problem. Then we propose a heuristic algorithm of node coverage grouping with the time complexity of O(n 3 ). The experimental results show that the NCG outperforms the LDAS and the PEAS methods in terms of the number of living nodes, the number of working nodes, and the coverage with the proceeding of system lifetime.

Wireless sensor networks consist of various sensor nodes which operate in a memory, energy and bandwidth constrained environment. Target tracking is an important application in wireless sensor networks and in this paper we propose an energy aware target tracking (EATT) algorithm. Energy efficiency is obtained due to the novel concept of tracking being performed in a collaborative manner by different cluster heads instead of using a base station. This helps to minimize the energy required for communication. Taking into consideration the unique energy constraints of motes we reduce the computational complexity of the tracking algorithm by using simple optimization technique. In this paper, we shall briefly discuss our tracking approach and then focus on the advantages of program optimization in wireless sensor networks. The work presented demonstrates the viability of achieving real time energy efficient target tracking by using simple optimization technique for a tracking algorithm implemented in TinyOS. The simulation results show that the proposed technique reduces the energy consumption by at least 20% and memory requirement by at least 6% as compared to the conventional techniques used in wireless sensor network.

Recent advances in miniaturization of computing devices, communications and digital storage technologies, along with the novel data-acquisition discoveries, have enabled gathering and storing of unprecedented amounts of heterogeneous data [1]. This, in turn, provided foundations for large-scale knowledge discovery and information fusion undertakings addressing issues ranging from serviceoriented distributed data mining in distributed infrastructure-based environments [2], to mining in P2P and sensor networks [3]. To optimize the utilization of the available devices, from their deployment up to the continuous control and collaborative gathering of important data, diverse issues need to be addressed in a collaborative manner, spanning through networking, mobility control, information fusion, signal processing, along with indexing!retrieval, query processing and data mining. One of the main categories of problems stems from the heterogeneity of the devices and the semantics of the different applications that may pose concurrent pending requests. As an example, indexing structures in wireless sensor networks are expected to emerge from the interactions of sensors and be adaptive to topology changes due to sensors being online/offline or by sensor mobility [4,5]. However, detection of particular event and its matching with a rule in the knowledge-base may require a completely "unnatural" re-organization of the structures used and the operating regime of the devices employed.

Wireless sensor networks are an important research area that has attracted a lot of attention in the past few years. Most of this attention, however, has focused on wireless sensor network collect scalar data such as temperature and vibration. Scalar data is insufficient for many applications such as video surveillance and traffic monitoring. Whereas, camera sensors collect video data, which are rich in information and offer tremendous potential when used in wireless sensor networks. Video sensor networks continue to gain increase interest due to their ability to collect video information for a wide range of applications in recent years. However, knowledge about these types of networks is mostly related to visual algorithms, leaving the issues such as the coverage of video sensor network and the transmission of video data aside. In this paper, we first highlight the issues and opportunities of video sensor network. And then we discuss key research issue on video sensor network, specifically camera coverage problem, network architecture, and low-power video data processing and communication. Finally, we identify enabling approaches in this area.

In a previous set of analyses and researches we have proved the strong relationship that exists between each particular subject and its corresponding particular set of imagery cognitive tasks (determined out of several proposed mental tasks); these individual sets of tasks were the ones on which the obtained classification performances were significantly superior than on the other possible combinations of tasks. Also, a remarkable aspect is that all these improvements in classification were achieved for the same EEG features (namely, AR parameters) and the same processing and classification methods, that, during the entire study, were kept unmodified. In consequence, the act of finding, for each individual subject, the appropriate specific set of cognitive tasks should be considered of great importance in any brain computer interface (BCI) implementation. The present paper continues these researches and focuses on the necessity to find (as it has been already suggested in the literature), for each subject, that set of custom band power coefficients for which superior classification rates on the subject optimal set of cognitive tasks - previously determined - will be the highest. Based on some specific GA methods, implemented in order to find the subject appropriate frequency band parameters, and using a neural network structure for the classification, the final new obtained classification performances considerably improved with 4 to 6 percents.

Hyperspectral image consist of a set of contiguous images bands collected by a hyperspectral sensor. The large amount of data of hyperspectral images emphasizes the importance of efficient compression for storage and transmission. This paper proposes the simplified version of the three dimensional Set Partitioning Embedded bloCK (3D SPECK) algorithm for lossy compression of hyperspectral image. A three dimensional discrete wavelet transform (3D DWT) can fully exploit the interband correlation in a volumetric block. This provides the obvious way to process data such as with hyperspectral images. The 3D structure of the SPECK algorithm will suitably extend the exploitation of interband dependence and correlation. The proposed algorithm maintains the 3D SPECK algorithm with modification of the implementation without using any list to store the significant information. This would reduce the memory requirement of the embedded coding algorithm and improve the coding time to compress the images.

Nodes in contention-based (beaconless) georouting forward packets towards a known destination position without the knowledge of the neighborhood. The only existing methods that guarantee delivery in unit disk graphs (UDG) require runtime planarization of the communication graph with either unbounded message overhead per hop while preserving the Gabriel graph property of the subgraph, or a constant overhead per hop with up to 13 control messages. In this paper we show that the next hop can be selected directly by a contention mechanism and without prior planarization. Existing greedy routing methods select the next hop with 3 messages using a RTS-CTS-DATA scheme in a timer-based contention where only the next hop neighbor responds. We extend this to provide also recovery from local minima with 3 messages per hop by the Rotational Sweep algorithm. We prove that our algorithm guarantees delivery in UDGs, and also yields routes that are shorter than or equal to the combined greedy and face routing with Gabriel graph planarization. Simulation results show that especially the duration of the contention process can be significantly reduced. Our algorithm can be also used for conventional beacon-based routing with guaranteed delivery without prior planarization, replacing the complicated implementation from by a very simple method which evaluates angular distances to select the proper forwarding neighbor. It also provides a simple network boundary detection algorithm, with or without beacons.

Due to power limitation of nodes in wireless sensor networks (WSNs), how to maximize network lifetime has become a critical issue for deployment of WSNs. Although several schemes have been proposed for 2D WSNs, few for 3D WSNs are known. In this paper, we present a scheme for maximizing network lifetime in 3D WSNs through balancing energy consumption, as an extension of the existing scheme for 2D WSNs proposed recently [1]. Same as [1], we formulate the energy consumption balancing problem as an problem of optimal distribution of transmitting data by combining the techniques of sphere-corona based network division, mixed-routing and data aggregation. We first present a Tiled-block based routing scheme in order to balance energy consumption among nodes in each sphere-corona. Then we design an algorithm to compute the optimal distribution ratio of transmitting data between direct and hop-by-hop transmissions, with the purpose of balancing energy consumption among nodes across different sphere-coronas. Finally we show how to maximize network lifetime through computing the optimal number of sphere-coronas. Simulation results show that our scheme is superior to conventional direct and multihop transmission schemes in network lifetime.

This work develops a 2 Dimension (2D)/ 3 Dimension (3D)-integrated image sensor that adopts the same photodiode under different biased voltages and integrated sensing circuitry. By using the TSMC CMOS technology, four different photodiodes, N-well_P-substrate, P-diffusion_N-well, Pdiffusion_ N-well_P-substrate and N-diffusion_P-substrate, are available. Since P-substrate is used for grounding and P-diffusion_N-well has poor quantum efficiency, only the photodiode of P-diffusion_N-well_P-substrate can be employed by biasing two different voltages to P-diffusion. If the photodiode is driven by little smaller than its breakdown voltage, it functions at the Geiger mode to work for 3D depth sensing. Otherwise, this photodiode performs 2-D gray-level sensing. In the sensing circuitry, a feed-back mechanism is employed to yield a charge supply for a high dynamic range of 2-D sensing, and a feed-back inverter is adopted to boost the processing speed of 3-D sensing. These two feedbacks are effectively integrated in an active pixel to establish 2D/3D image sensor. Based on the TSMC 0.35μm 2P4M technology, a 352×288-pixel 2D/3D image sensor was implemented where its dynamic range can reach 134dB under photocurrents from 10-13A to 5×10-7A and sensing time can be accelerated to 16.3ns. The proposed image sensor can effectively capture 2D and 3D information of an object at the same location without additional alignment and post-processing.
