We consider the problem of soft decision fusion in a bandwidth-constrained wireless sensor network (WSN). the WSN is tasked with the detection of an intruder transmitting an unknown signal over a fading channel. A binary hypothesis testing is performed using the soft decision of the sensor nodes (SNs). Using the likelihood ratio test, the optimal soft fusion rule at the fusion center (FC) has been shown to be the weighted distance from the soft decision mean under the null hypothesis. But as the optimal rule requires a-priori knowledge that is difficult to attain in practice, suboptimal fusion rules are proposed that are realizable in practice. We show how the effect of quantizing the test statistic can be mitigated by increasing the number of SN samples, i.e., bandwidth can be traded off against increased latency. the optimal power and bit allocation for the WSN is also derived. Simulation results show that SNs with good channels are allocated more bits, while SNs with poor channels are censored.

Multiple Input Multiple Output sonar systems offer new perspectives for target detection and underwater surveillance. In this paper we present an unified formulation for sonar MIMO systems and study their properties in terms of target recognition and imaging. Here we are interested in large MIMO systems. the multiplication of the number of transmitters and receivers non only provides a greater variety in term of target view angles but provides also in a single shot meaningful statistics on the target itself. We demonstrate that using large MIMO sonar systems and with a single shot it is possible to perform automatic target recognition and also to achieve superresolution imaging. Assuming the view independence between the MIMO pairs the speckle can be solved and individual scatterers within one resolution cell decorelate. A realistic 3D MIMO sonar simulator is also presented. the output of this simulator will demonstrate the theoretical results.

Raman spectroscopy has for a long time performed as a common analytical technique in spectroscopic applications. A Raman spectrum depends upon how efficiently a molecule scatters the incident light (electron rich molecules often produce strong signals) which results in difficulties for relating the spectrum to the absolute amounts of present substances. the spectrum is however a stable and accurate representation of the sample measured especially considering that each molecule is associated with a unique spectrum. State-of-the-art spectroscopic calibration methods include the principal component regression (PCR) and partial least squares regression (PLSR) methods which have been proved to be efficient regression methods to realise the quantitative analysis of Raman spectrum. In this paper we consider the problem of Raman spectra deconvolution to analyse the sample composition, as well as possible unknown substances. In particular, we propose a sparse regularized model as a complement to traditional regression methods by leveraging the components sparsity compared to the whole chemical library and the spectra sparsity, given that the chemical fingerprint of each spectrum is mainly determined by the peaks. Experimental results illustrate the effectiveness of this sparse regularized model.

this paper describes the use of local sea-floor characteristics to train a neural network to remove false alarms from an Automatic Target Recognition (ATR) algorithm. We demonstrate that this reduces the Probability of False Alarm (PFA) in difficult areas without impacting the Probability of Detection (PD) in flat areas. the sea-floor characteristics are calculated from the texture and appearance of clutter on the seafloor. Textural characteristics are extracted using a Dual Tree Wavelet (DTW) transform. Highlight and shadow regions are segmented using Markov Random Field (MRF) and graph cuts. Clutter density and height are calculated from the segmented image. the method is tested by training a neural network to filter the detections from a Haar cascade ATR algorithm. the neural network is trained on the ATR response and the seafloor characteristics. On Synthetic Aperture Sonar (SAS) data we report an average reduction of 50% in the false alarm rate over that of the ATR algorithm. the processing time for an 8000x3000 pixel image is approximately 1 second.

the problem of efficient sampling of wideband radar signals for Electronic Surveillance (ES) using a parallel sampling structure will be investigated in this paper. Wideband radio frequency sampling, which is a necessary component of the modern digital radar surveillance systems, needs a sampling rate at least twice the maximum frequency of signals, i.e. Nyquist rate, which is generally very high. Designing an analog to digital converter which works with such a high sampling rate is difficult and expensive. the standard wideband ES receivers use the rapidly swept superheterodyne technique, which selects a subband of the spectrum at a time, while iterating through the whole spectrum sequentially. Such a technique does not explore the underlying structure of input RF signals. When the signal is sparsely structured, we can use the fact that signals do not occupy the whole spectrum. there indeed exists a parsimonious structure in the time-frequency domain in radar ES signals. We here use a recently introduced low-complexity sampling system, called LoCoMC [1], which is inspired by the compressive sampling (CS) of sparse signals and it uses the multi-coset sampling structure, while it does not involve a computationally expensive reconstruction step. A new implementation technique is here introduced, which further reduces the computational cost of the reconstruction algorithm by combining two filters, while improving the accuracy by implicitly implementing an infinite length filter. We also describe the rapidly swept superheterodyne receiver and compare it with the LoCoMC algorithm In a contrast to the former technique, LoCoMC continuously monitors the spectrum, which makes it much more robust in the short pulse detection.

with the development of modern science and technology, many high technology fields have entered the nano-world, such as processing and manufacturing of aerospace products, precision measurement devices, and high-density integrated circuits and so on. Close to the nanometer scale with the characteristic size of atoms and molecules, the general conventional techniques are no longer applicable, and therefore many countries focused their eyes on the study of nanotechnology, especially in nano-operation and measurement techniques. Piezoelectric ceramic actuator driver for its excellent performance is widely used in micro/nano positioning operation fields. However, due to the existence of its own hysteresis, creep and nonlinear shortcomings seriously affect the accuracy of the nano-scale position. To solve the above problem, we designed a displacement sensor to measure the real-time displacement of piezoelectric ceramic actuator and use the close-loop control which based on the feedback of displacement to improve the positioning accuracy of piezoelectric ceramic actuator driver. After the improvement, the nano-displacement sensor's accuracy has reached the nanometer level. Experimental results show that the research in this paper can really improve the performance of the nano-displacement sensor

Gyroscope is a sensor that measure angular velocity which is widely used in various fields [1]. the analog processing technology of Gyro-signal is very mature, but due to the noise and other shortcomings of the analog circuit, the development of micro-mechanical gyroscope is limited. Digital gyroscope has superior performance and accuracy, so the signal processing of gyroscope will take digital methods [2]. this paper designs a platform for the digital signal processing of Silicon gyroscope. By using FPGA extend A / D and D / A interface method implement the signals from outside input to output, build a digital signal processing platform of the minimum system, then design the overall digital signal of the hardware part and the control section of the software part, synthesis the designed platform which doesn't depend on crafts use the Xilinx Synthesis tool and gave the synthesized results, verify the correctness of the design eventually.

Spasticity is a common disorder of the skeletal muscle with a high incidence in industrialised countries, occurring for example after multiple sclerosis or stroke and is associated with brain or spinal cord damage. A quantitative measure of spasticity using body-worn sensors is desirable in order to assess rehabilitative motor training and prevent damage, induced by the externally applied forces or torques from the movement support system. In this contribution we present a new approach to spasticity detection using the Integrated Posture and Activity NEtwork by Medit Aachen (IPANEMA) body sensor network (BSN). Towards this goal, a new electromyography (EMG)-sensor node is developed and employed in human locomotion. Following an analysis of clinical walking data of hemiplegic patients, a novel algorithm is developed based on the idea to detect co-activation of antagonistic muscle groups as observed in the exaggerated stretch reflex with associated limb or joint rigidity. the algorithm is subsequently employed in real walking tests conducted with the IPANEMA BSN showing good detection performance. We furthermore introduce a measure for the spasticity severity based on energy considerations of the recorded EMG signals.

Active-pixel CMOS image sensors have many attractive features, such as low power consumption, integrated on peripheral circuits, and nondestructive column-parallel readouts. Integrated on signal-processing circuits, they provide the advantages of high-speed parallel operation and lower power consumption, features which meet the special requirements of CMOS image sensors. A number of integrated signal processing circuit sensors have been developed and adopted not only for video but also for machine-vision and security applications as well. However, these approaches almost always involve lowering the pixel density and increasing the chip size to accommodate the added functions requiring large circuits. Hence proposed system is designed to detect a motion on the basis of difference between current and previous frame. While finding the difference system will indicate the location or the position of the motions. System will also capable to detect motion in dark by reducing the infrared filtering from CMOS sensor. the system will then give alert to user through light operating or buzzing the sound.
