As an extension of 2D SPIHT, 3D SPIHT inherits the properties of 2D SPIHT, and is suited very well large for volume data compression such as video, medical images, and multispectral images. But it still contains a great deal of redundant search, having not fully improved coding speed. In order to solve this problem, the authors of this paper successfully proposed a fast search algorithm, which can be applied to improve the 3D SPIHT coding algorithm, greatly reducing redundant search and improving coding speed. Experiments also show that the improved 3D SPIHT is really faster than the original 3D SPIHT for image and video compression.

Template matching is a fundamental building block for image search operations. In this paper, we present a scheme that allows privacy-preserving template matching operations on images that are stored on clouds. Our scheme uses “ambient imagedata” (images that are found in social media sites such as Flickr) as well as a privacy-preserving encoding technique to encode a given image before it is stored in a cloud. We show a particular encoding strategy that allows template matching to take place in the cloud while not revealing any information about the image or queried template to the cloud. A simplified prototype of the image processing system was implemented and the experimental results are presented in this paper. Our prototype shows the feasibility of performing privacy-aware template matching on encoded images.

Registration of an image non-rigidly to another one causes deformations, which generally do not preserve the initial volume. Volume preservation is however indispensable for observing tumors in medical images. this paper presents the correction of B-spline based registration to preserve the volume in observed regions. In contrast to other approaches, our solution is not obtained through energy minimization, but by calculating the correction parameters for the deformation directly. Especially for high resolution imagedatathis strategy is very efficient in terms of computational expenses. We derive a closed form solution to optimize the registration with respect to the compression at a single point and then extend the problem to multiple points. Finally we prove also that the correction terms do not have any significant influence on the registration quality.

this paper introduces an algorithm for "mapping" locations in a 2D image of an object onto a 3D CAD model of that object. the goal is to align the image withthe CAD model so that the location of various points in the image can be found on the object. We will actually present two methods for achieving this goal. One relies on projective invariants and requires no information about the camera parameters. Unfortunately, its performance is sometimes erratic in the face of particular types of errors. the other method assumes that the user is able to identify a minimum of 4 feature points in the image and the corresponding points on the CAD model. Beyond that, no information is assumed except for knowledge of the size of the camera's CCD and the location of the center of projection in the image. this second algorithm is highly accurate and robust in the face of real-world errors. We call this second algorithm the quaternion optimization algorithm. It positions the camera in CAD space so as to optimally align the matched features. this in turn permits the mapping of other image pixels to the CAD model.

the method for adaptive lossless imagecoding is aimed at efficient compression of grayscale or color digital still images. the method is based on the analysis of the processed images histograms, followed by modified Huffman and Run-lengthcoding. the coding is performed in two consecutive stages. In the first one, the input data (i. e., the digital information about the image brightness and color components) is transformed without affecting their volume in such a way, that to obtain sequences of same values (in particular, zeros) of maximum length. the transform is reversible and is based on the analysis of the input data histograms and on the differences between each number in the processed data and the most frequent one. In the second stage of the processing the transformed data is analyzed and sequences of same numbers are detected. Every such sequence is substituted by a shorter one, corresponding to the number of same values which it contains. the method is extremely suitable for images of graphics or texts (for example: fingerprints, contour images, cartoons, medical signals, etc.). the method has low computational complexity and is suitable for real-time applications.
