the development of applications using service choreographies is becoming one of the de facto standards for the Future Internet. However QoS-aware management of service compositions is usually performed without considering service sharing. this simplifying assumption makes choreography deployment less feasible in real scenarios, in which a single service is typically shared in many scenarios. In this paper we discuss the problem of managing multiple choreographies in multi-cloud environments and we advocate that sharing-aware deployment is a more effective and resource-efficient approach. We propose a model for the combined deployment of multiple choreographies on top of a shared set of services, and we further investigate the problem through experiments.

Code and model generators that are employed in model-driven engineering usually face challenges caused by complexity and tight coupling of generator implementations, particularly when multiple metamodels are involved. As a consequence maintenance, evolution and reuse of generators is expensive and error-prone. We address these challenges with a two fold approach for generator composition, called GECO, which subdivides generators in fragments and modules. (1) fragments are combined utilizing megamodel patterns. these patterns are based on the relationship between base and aspect metamodel, and define that each fragment relates only to one source and target metamodel. (2) fragments are modularized along transformation aspects, such as model navigation, and metamodel semantics. We evaluate our approach with two case studies from different domains. the obtained generators are assessed with modularity and complexity metrics, covering architecture and method level. Our results show that the generator modularity is preserved during evolution utilizing GECO.

the cloud is a distributed architecture providing resources as tiered services. through the principles of service-orientation and generally provided using virtualisation, the deployment and provisioning of applications can be managed dynamically, resulting in cloud platforms and applications as interdependent adaptive systems. Dynamically adaptive systems require a representation of requirements as dynamically manageable models, enacted through a controller implementing a feedback look based on a control-theoretic framework. We argue that a control theory and model-based architectural framework for the cloud is needed. While some critical aspects such as uncertainty have already been taken into account, what has not been accounted for are challenges resulting from the cloud architecture as a multi-tiered, distributed environment. We identify challenges and define a framework that aims at a better understanding and a roadmap towards control-theoretic, modelbased cloud architecture - driven by software architecture concerns.

Several industrial contexts require software engineering methods and tools able to handle large-size artifacts. the central idea of abstraction makes model-driven engineering (MDE) a promising approach in such contexts, but current tools do not scale to very large models (VLMs): already the task of storing and accessing VLMs from a persisting support is currently inefficient. In this paper we propose a scalable persistence layer for the de-facto standard MDE framework EMF. the layer exploits the efficiency of graph databases in storing and accessing graph structures, as EMF models are. A preliminary experimentation shows that typical queries in reverse-engineering EMF models have good performance on such persistence layer, compared to file-based backends.

A pipeline of unidirectional model transformations is a well-understood architecture for model driven engineering tasks such as model compilation or view extraction. However, modern applications require a shift towards networks of models related in various ways, whose synchronization often needs to be incremental and bidirectional. this new situation demands new features from transformation tools and a solid semantic foundation. We address the latter by presenting a taxonomy of model synchronization types, organized into a 3D-space. Each point in the space refers to its set of synchronization requirements and a corresponding algebraic structure modeling the intended semantics. the space aims to help with identifying and communicating the right tool and theory for the synchronization problem at hand. It also intends to guide future theoretical and tool research.

this paper deals with the performance modelling and analysis of offshore wind turbine-driven hydraulic pumps. the concept consists of an open loop hydraulic system with the rotor main shaft directly coupled to a swash plate pump to supply pressurised sea water. A mathematical model is derived to cater for the steady state behaviour of entire system. A simplified model for the pump is implemented together with different control scheme options for regulating the rotor shaft power. A new control scheme is investigated, based on the combined use of hydraulic pressure and pitch control. Using a steady-state analysis, the study shows how the adoption of alternative control schemes in a the wind turbine-hydraulic pump system may result in higher energy yields than those from a conventional system with an electrical generator and standard pitch control for power regulation. this is in particular the case with the new control scheme investigated in this study that is based on the combined use of pressure and rotor blade pitch control.

the decision of choosing a facility location among possible alternatives can be understood as a multi-criteria problem where the solution depends on the available knowledge and the means of exploiting it. In this sense, knowledge can take various forms, where the imprecise nature of information can be expressed by degrees of intensity in which the alternatives satisfy the given criteria. Hence, such degrees can be gradually expressed either by unique values or by intervals, in order to fully represent the characteristics of each alternative. this paper examines the selection of biogas plant location based on a decision support model capable of handling and exploiting both interval and non-interval forms of knowledge. Such model is built on a fuzzy approach to weighted overlap dominance, where an interactive procedure is developed allowing the individuals to explore and put into perspective how their different attitudes affect the final ranking of alternatives. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2014.

An RF driven plasma exciter for producing negative ions, aiming for plasma heating and current drive in neutral beam injectors for fusion applications, is in developing in Huazhong University of Science and Technology. In order to couple effectively the RF power to the exciter, the matching unit is designed to match the impedance of the exciter to that of the RF coaxial line. Firstly, a FEM model was built to estimate the equivalent circuit parameters of the exciter. Numerical predictions were compared with a small experimental setup to verify the accuracy of the FEM model. Based on the numerical results, the RF coil and the matching components were carefully designed. Finally, the matching circuit for the source is developed and will be tested. the main objective of the REMICS project is to specify, develop and evaluate a tool-supported model-driven methodology for migrating legacy applications to interoperable service cloud platforms. the migration process consists of understanding the legacy system in terms of its architecture and functions, designing a new SOA application that provides the same or better functionality, and verifying and implementing the new application in the cloud. the demonstrations will cover the following REMICS research topics: model-based analysis and testing and model-driven interoperability with the tools by Fraunhofer FOKUS and SINTEF.
