this paper intends to provide suggestions of how sustainable building simulation might profit from mathematical models derived from chaos and complexity approaches. It notes that with the increasing complexity of sustainable building systems which are capable of intelligently adjusting buildings' performance from the environment and occupant behavior and adapting to environmental extremes, building performance simulation is becoming more crucial and heading towards new challenges, dimensions, concepts, and theories beyond the traditional ones. the paper then goes on to describe how chaos and complexity theory has been applied in modeling building systems and behavior, and to identify the paucity of literature and the need for a suitable methodology of linking chaos and complexity approaches to mathematical models in building sustainable studies. Chaotic models are proposed thereafter for modelling energy consumption, nonlinear moisture diffusion, and building material properties in building simulation. this paper provides an update on the current simulation models for sustainable buildings. © 2019 CHAOS 2011 - 4th Chaotic modeling and simulation International conference, Proceedings. A concept centered open ended experiments motivates the students to think in multidimensional view. In modeling and simulation lab for the second year undergraduate students, the open ended experiment is designed to expose the students to Internet of things (IOT) applications. Python language is one of the freeware and can be used to implement IOT applications using Raspberry Pi. In most of the industries python programming language is widely used for various test automation. Initially the python language is introduced to implement numerical computation algorithms, so that the students are familiar with the basic libraries. then the open ended experiment is carried out using Raspberry Pi for IOT applications. In this experiment the students are sensing and retrieving data from the cloud. With this approach the students are exposed to python programming and IOT concepts which is most widely used in industry. It also helps the students to carry out higher semester projects in IOT based applications in a better way. © 2016 IEEE.

the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami and the 2011 Great East Japan tsunami left several lessons for future events. Both tsunami events confirmed the importance of early evacuation, tsunami awareness and the need of developing much more resilient communities with effective evacuation plans. To support reconstruction activities and efforts on developing resilient communities, tsunami evacuation simulation are applied to tsunami mitigation and evacuation planning. In this paper we highlight the importance of tsunami evacuation simulation as a tool in disaster management. Case studies of application of a tsunami evacuation model developed by the authors are presented here. Applications in Indonesia, thailand and Japan tsunami prone areas are reported. In addition, challenges and future research directions for tsunami evacuation modeling are briefly discussed. © 2014 SciTePress. All rights reserved.

Cyber-Physical Systems(CPS) involve communication, computation, and control through physical devices and computational components. the intrinsic heterogeneity, integration of computation and physical processes of CPS challenges the existing modeling frameworks. the close interactions between such systems and physical world make event-based approach as a remarkable solution for the modeling and simulation of CPS. this paper discusses an event-based architecture to enable analysis and design of CPS systems in an integrated manner. A lunar rover example is used to illustrate the proposed approach.

this work introduces a novel mesh generation technique for representing ship hull and superstructure complex geometries. the method uses as input, state-of-art computer aided design tools (e.g., CAD, SolidWorks) that deliver STL (Standard Transform Language or Stereo Lithography) files which contain all the details of the ship geometry, that are used to produce coarse and representative meshes for complex geometries. the program is a custom mesh generator that can produce a mesh of an entire ship in less than 4 minutes. the previously developed volume element model based thermal management tool (vemESRDC) is enhanced to include the new mesh strategy. the vemESRDC is a thermal simulation tool developed as part of the Electric Ship Research and Development Consortium (ESRDC) funded by the Office of Naval Research (ONR) that is capable of providing quick responses during early stages of ship design. In order to illustrate the application of the methodology, several thermal management simulations are conducted for a hull representative of the US destroyer DDG-51 external geometry operating with the baseline Medium Voltage Direct Current (MVDC) architecture.

Accurate modeling of multi-source harvesters present design challenges such as the integration of mixed circuit topologies, passive versus active topologies, impedance matching, and optimization. Commercial modeling and simulation software packages offer solutions but often times are not comprehensive enough. In this work P-Spice, Simulink, and Comsol Multiphysics were used to model a multi-source energy harvesting system that incorporates the energy producing capabilities of the piezoelectric, the pyroelectric, and thermoelectric effect. A systems approach that models the material properties of the converters, the power electronics and storage was implemented. Low frequency experimental data from PZT based harvesters and thermoelectric generators were used to produce lumped parameter models. It was demonstrated that within 12% that combining effects may contribute to continuous energy harvesting operation.

the need for a fast numerical method that ensures stability and accuracy for real-time simulation of power systems still remains a challenging problem for researchers. In this paper, a new method based on an explicit integration method and parallel execution on DSPs is proposed. Some examples and preliminary results are included for illustrative purposes.

this paper presents a simulation tool used for the identification of regions of operation and deterministic analysis of a DC-DC boost converter for varying system parameters. Here the focus is on a pulsed-width modulated (PWM) dc-dc boost converter with feedback control and network models used to represent the delay experienced by measurements due to network traffic.

To improve the capability of simulation grid in sharing, collaborating, fault-tolerating and migrating multi-granularity resources on demand through the network by multi-users, the authors proposed a new modeling and simulation named Cloud simulation in our former paper. In this paper, we further studied Cloud simulation Platform and established the High-Performance Cloud simulation Platform (HPCSP). Firstly, this paper presents the architecture and application mode of HPCSP, and then introduces the latest research fruits of some key technologies. Moreover it gives a typical application demonstration. Finally, the future works of HPCSP are presented.
