Effective interpersonal communication is of key importance in the professional environment, but above all in private life. People with hearing problems find it difficult to communicate their thoughts and feelings to the outside world. To enable them to communicate, sign language was created, to be a bridge between the world of deaf people and the world of people without hearing impairment. Every day it is difficult to find people who are not deaf, and who can use sign language. In this paper, the authors describe the methods used for communication between people hard of hearing and people with normal audible range. the article presents the solutions that use vision systems available at the world market as well as descriptions of gloves enabling the mentioned communication. Additionally, the authors describe a self-made glove that is used to translate letters from sign language into text or speech. For this purpose, as detectors of the degree of finger bending, the sensors built based on textile substrates with thin metallic layers, changing their resistance depending on the degree of finger bending are used. the effectiveness of repeating hand gestures in the proposed solution is 86.5%, with 520 hand gestures symbolizing the letters of the Polish alphabet.

the creation and assessment of a scalable and trustworthy cloud-based UV monitoring system designed for public health applications are the main topics of this research article. Monitoring UV radiation is important because it plays a crucial part in understanding and reducing a variety of health hazards, such as vitamin D insufficiency and skin cancer. Traditional monitoring techniques frequently have limitations due to their confined character and lack of access to real-time data. We suggest a cloud-based UV monitoring system that integrates cutting-edge UV sensors with cloud computing infrastructure to overcome these constraints. the process entails placing UV sensors in various geographical places in order to collect UV radiation data in real time. Due to the seamless integration of these sensors with a cloud platform, continuous data transmission, archival, and analysis are possible. the raw sensor readings used in our study are transformed into meaningful UV index values using data processing techniques, giving us valuable information for public health initiatives. this study introduces a system for tracking the ultraviolet (UV) index that is based on the Internet of things (IoT). the goal is to help avoid ailments that can be brought on by prolonged exposure to sun UV light. In reaction to variations in the UV index level over time, the system accomplishes this by sending warning messages and suggesting preventive steps. With more than 4 billion devices produced in 2020, Bluetooth and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) have become the dominant solutions for short-range wireless communication in IoT. BLE mitigates interference via Adaptive Frequency Hopping (AFH), spreading communication over the entire spectrum. However, the ever-growing number of BLE devices and WiFi traffic in the already crowded 2.4 GHz band lead to situations where the quality of BLE connections dynamically changes with nearby wireless traffic, location, and time of day. these dynamic environments demand new approaches for channel management in AFH, by both dynamically excluding frequencies suffering from localized interference and adaptively re-including channels, thus providing sufficient channel diversity to survive the rise of new *** introduce eAFH, a new channel-management approach in BLE with a strong focus on efficient channel re-inclusion. eAFH introduces informed exploration as a driver for inclusion: using only past measurements, eAFH assesses which frequencies we are most likely to benefit from re-inclusion into the hopping sequence. As a result, eAFH adapts in dynamic scenarios where interference varies over time. We show that eAFH achieves 98-99.5% link-layer reliability in the presence of dynamic WiFi interference with 1% control overhead and 40% higher channel diversity than state-of-the-art approaches.

Multi-robot task allocation (MRTA) problems require that robots take complex choices based on their understanding of a dynamic and uncertain environment. As a distributed computing system, the Multi-Robot System (MRS) must handle and distribute processing tasks (MRpTA). Each robot must contribute to the overall efficiency of the system based solely on a limited knowledge of its environment. Market-based methods are a natural candidate to deal processing tasks over a MRS but recent and numerous developments in reinforcement learning and especially Deep Q-Networks (DQN) provide new opportunities to solve the problem. In this paper we propose a new DQN-based method so that robots can learn directly from experience, and compare it with Market-based approaches as well with centralized and purely local solutions. Our study shows the relevancy of learning-based methods and also highlight research challenges to solve the processing load-balancing problem in MRS.

Publish/subscribe systems are widely used as messaging middleware in various scenarios, such as online business, financial trading, and social media. However, the network overhead intro-duced by the pub/sub system can severely impact application performance. Especially in the latency-sensitive applications of the data center, optimizing the latency of publishing or delivering messages of the pub/sub system is particularly important. RDMA network has gained popularity in relevant applications due to its low latency, high bandwidth and ability to bypass the CPU. Never-theless, it is still challenging to design and optimize the pub/sub system using RDMA. through an in-depth analysis of RDMA features, we design and implement FNotify, a high-performance RDMA-accelerated pub/sub system. FNotify optimizes latency and CPU load using in-memory message management and one-sided RDMA primitives for message collection. FNotify also proposes a topic-based partitioning scheme to achieve good scal-ability. We conducted a comprehensive evaluation and analysis on an 8-node RDMA cluster to verify the validity of our design by comparing the performance of FNotify with Apache Kafka (a state-of-the-art pub/sub system) in a typical pub/sub application scenario and various micro-benchmarks. Experimental results show that FNotify improves overall performance by $1.5\times$ to $3.9\times$ and reduces end-to-end latency by more than $20\times$ compared to Apache Kafka.

this paper describes the reduction of the number of nodes in a WSN network using a neural network. the aim is to show that the neural network can predict the measured quantity at a given location of the wireless sensor network based on measurements at other points. After successfully setting the parameters of the neural network, the node can be removed. the theoretical part deals with wireless sensor networks and an introduction to feedforward neural networks. the experimental part describes the prediction of the temperature at a given point based on measurements at the three surrounding points of the WSN network.

Due to decarbonisation and decentralisation of energy sectors, the rise of distributed generation (DG) will modify generation and demand patterns at grid supply points (GSPs), where the interface between distribution and transmission systems takes place. this paper proposes an analytical method to evaluate the DG locational incremental contribution (LIC) to the interface with the transmission grid. Accordingly, the original model of the UK engineering recommendation P2 is enhanced by studying the impacts from high-voltage distribution networks (i.e. <= 132 kV) under normal and contingent conditions. this approach enables a more accurate network security assessment, especially when considering contingencies such as distribution system faults. the original P2 is compared against different enhanced approaches on three basic distribution networks, followed by a sensitivity analysis on a revised ieee 14-bus GSP system. the proposed LIC method produces results that assess a wider range of conditions including DG penetration, concentration and system reliability. Furthermore, it provides an increased DG visibility for transmission planning and operation.

With the distributed access of large-scale renewable energy, the distribution network is facing more and more serious problems such as overvoltage and power backfeeding. this puts higher demands on the rapidity of voltage control in the current tidal state. Considering the complex control process of voltage centralized control method and the long time consuming traditional zoning method. this paper first analyses the impact of active and reactive power on the voltage of the distribution network after distributed PV access and uses the combined sensitivity as an electrical distance to determine the closeness of the electrical connection between nodes. Secondly, according to the calculated electrical distance as the input of DPC clustering algorithm, the distribution network nodes are clustered to achieve fast partitioning of the distribution network. Finally, the concept of complex network modularity function is introduced to evaluate the partitioning results to obtain the optimal partitioning results. the effectiveness of the method is demonstrated by simulation experiments using ieee 33 nodes.

Nowadays, buildings are responsible of a large consumption of energy in our cities. Moreover, buildings can be seen as the smallest entity of urban energy systems. On these premises, in this paper we present a flexible and distributed co-simulation platform that exploits a multi-modelling approach to simulate and evaluate energy performance in smart buildings. the developed platform exploits the Mosaik co-simulation framework and implements the Functional Mock-up Interface (FMI) standard in order to couple and synchronise heterogeneous simulators and models. the platform integrates: i) the thermal performance of the building simulated with EnergyPlus, ii) the space heating and hot water system modelled as an heat pump with PID control strategy in Modelica, and iii) different Python models used to simulate household occupancy, electrical loads, roof-top photovoltaic production and smart meters. the platform guaranties a plug-and-play integration of models and simulators, hence, one or more models can be easily replaced without affecting the whole simulation engine. Finally, we present a demonstration example to test the functionalities and capabilities of the developed platform, and discuss future developments of our framework.
