Industry 4.0 adopts Internet of things (IoT) and service-oriented architectures to integrate Cyber-Physical systems and Enterprise Planning into manufacturing operations. this kind of integration consists of a combination of connected sensors and run-Time control algorithms. Consequential control decisions are driven by sensor-generated data. Hence, the trustworthiness of the sensor network readings is increasingly crucial to guarantee the performance and the quality of a manufacturing task. However, existing methodologies to test such systems often do not scale to the complexity and dynamic nature of today's sensor networks. this paper proposes a novel run-Time verification framework combining sensor-level fault detection and system-level probabilistic model checking. this framework can rigorously quantify the trustworthiness of sensor readings, hence enabling formal reasoning for system failure prediction. We evaluated our approach on an industrial turn-mill machine equipped with a sensor network to monitor its main components continuously. the results indicate that the proposed verification framework involving the quantified sensor's trustworthiness enhances the accuracy of the system failure prediction. © 2020 ieee.

IoT is one of the most emerging technologies for the growth of the research and development sector. this technology enables the connectivity of the devices so that they can talk to each other. A wide variety of communication techniques, standards and modules are available for data transmission and reception. With the growing interest in Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) complemented by its high functionality and easy accessibility, UAVs are now applied to a variety of fields from delivery services to military surveillance. As much as it holds potential in various positive applications, UAV-associated threats on sensitive facilities and public safety with its increased involvement in illegal activities and terrorist attacks have triggered active research in Counter-UAV (CUAV) systems. the velocity of UAVs has a large impact on the collision distance between UAVs and facilities of importance, and with malicious intent, it could cause a disastrous outcome. In this paper, we propose a UAV threat assessment algorithm that classifies the threat level of UAVs based on the velocity change and distance from the facility of importance. the proposed algorithm was tested and compared with our previous algorithm through simulation. From the simulation results, we were able to confirm that analyzing the velocity and the type of velocity variation of a UAV based on its distance from the target can improve the accuracy of UAV threat assessment compared to our previous study that only utilized the different type of velocity variations. the results of this research are expected to be utilized in CUAV systems on predicting the threat of hostile UAVs and securing mitigation time to the posed threat, and research should further be continued on the velocity factor of UAV threat analysis.

With the continuous growth in population and energy demands more attention has been paid to energy consumption issues in residential environments. At the user-end, the home energy management system (HEMS) has been proposed as a cost-effective solution to reduce the electricity cost in households, while maintaining users' comfort and reducing the pressure on energy providers. However, it is a challenge to design a cost-effective scheduling strategies for HEMS which takes many objectives into consideration while potentially benefiting both users and providers. In our work, we propose a new approach named adaptive multi-objective salp swarm algorithm (AMSSA) based on traditional multi-objective salp swarm algorithm (MSSA) to realise a multi-objective optimisation approach for the power scheduling problem. AMSSA not only fulfils the trade-off among users' comfort, electricity cost and peak to average ratio (PAR), but also enhances the convergence speed for the overall optimisation process. Moreover, we also set up a testbed by using smart appliances and implemented our design on an edge-based energy management system. the experiment results demonstrated a reduction in both electricity cost (47.55%) and PAR (45.73%), compared with the case without a scheduling scheme.

Net Energy Metering (NEM) involves to a mechanism that permits consumers to interconnect their distributed generation systems to the power grid network. NEM allows utility and consumer to mount a bi-directional meter to measure power flow in two directions- one from utility to consumer (import) and another from consumer to utility (export). the consumer's monthly consumption bill will he calculated based on the net energy measured by the meter i.e. energy drawn from the distribution grid minus the energy delivered to the distribution grid over the stated billing cycle. this study assesses the technical and economic potential and feasibility of net metering system implementation for a rooftop Solar Photovoltaic (PV) in a commercial building. It also analyzes the environmental impact reduction by implementing such renewable energy utilization project.

Wireless sensor Networks (WSNs) is a fundamental apparatus for monitoring discrete remote situations. One of the key innovations engaged with WSNs, is fault recognition in WSN applications. WSN are usually fault prone and reliability of sensor network is influenced by flaws that might occur, because of different reasons like malfunctioning hardware and also software faults or due to some natural reasons. the primary motive of this paper is to consider various approaches to fault detection techniques in WSNs and their upcoming predictions. To achieve this point, we reviewed various existing approaches and provided a broader outline of fault detection and also fault tolerance in WSNs. In this paper, the summarization of the existing fault detection techniques is stated, and further examinations are done to help sensor applications. © 2020 ieee.

Monitoring and automation of the critical infrastructures like the power grid are improvised by the support of an efficient and secure communication network. Due to the low-cost, low-power profile, dynamic nature, improved accuracy and scalability, wireless sensor networks (WSN) became an attractive choice for the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) system of the smart grid. However, the energy efficiency and security of WSN depend highly on the network design and routing scheme. In this paper, a WSN-based secure and energy-efficient remote monitoring technique (SERMT) is proposed by demonstrating a WSN-based ICT network model for pervasive monitoring of the generation and transmission part of the power network in a smart grid system. the performance of the proposed network model designed for a smart grid of ieee 118-Bus system coupled with the secure routing technique is tested during cyber-attacks by means of NS2, and the simulation results indicate that it performs better than existing smart grid monitoring methods like Lo-ADI (Dhunna and Al-Anbagi in ieee Sens J 19(13), 2019 [1]) with respect to packet drop count and throughput. © 2021, the Editor(s) (if applicable) and the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Deep Learning (DL) model-based AI services are increasingly offered in a variety of predictive analytics services such as computer vision, natural language processing, speech recognition. However, the quality of the DL models can degrade over time due to changes in the input data distribution, thereby requiring periodic model updates. Although cloud data-centers can meet the computational requirements of the resource-intensive and time-consuming model update task, transferring data from the edge devices to the cloud incurs a significant cost in terms of network bandwidth and are prone to data privacy issues. With the advent of GPU-enabled edge devices, the DL model update can be performed at the edge in a distributed manner using multiple connected edge devices. However, efficiently utilizing the edge resources for the model update is a hard problem due to the heterogeneity among the edge devices and the resource interference caused by the co-location of the DL model update task with latency-critical tasks running in the background. To overcome these challenges, we present Deep-Edge, a load- and interference-aware, fault-tolerant resource management framework for performing model update at the edge that uses distributed training. this paper makes the following contributions. First, it provides a unified framework for monitoring, profiling, and deploying the DL model update tasks on heterogeneous edge devices. Second, it presents a scheduler that reduces the total re-training time by appropriately selecting the edge devices and distributing data among them such that no latency-critical applications experience deadline violations. Finally, we present empirical results to validate the efficacy of the framework using a real-world DL model update case-study based on the Caltech dataset and an edge AI cluster testbed.

Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) is concern with the safety of building which relies on sensor that can be strategically placed in building to monitor and record structural data. Wireless sensor Network (WSN) is one of the supporting and attractive sensing technologies for SHM as it gives accurate, reliable, and healthier information to the users. In this paper, WSN communication is applied to monitor temperature, humidity, and structural parameter which includes vibration, force, and the sensor data stored in MySQL database. these stored data are visualized on dashboard. the original problem of SHM is to find the building damaged by monitoring the measured data and to reduce the cost without compromising the demand of safety. © 2020 ieee.

Intelligent driving functions, such as ACC (Adaptive Cruise Control) and ALC (Automated Lane Changes), require lane assignment for objects. It relies on an accurate traffic lane path estimation. this paper proposes a fused front lane trajectory estimation algorithm based on current common ADAS sensor configuration. this trajectory is generated by fusing information of lane markers, front object trails and host motion state. this algorithm uses a clothoid lane model and its coefficients is estimated by a Kalman Filter, which weighs predicted model state and current measurement. this approach is verified by a set of real road test data. © 2020 ieee.
