the internet of things is a rapidly expanding paradigm which is fundamentally altering the way in which we interact with technology. A range of new services are enabled by this technological revolution, one of which is the task of activity recognition from performing classification on sensed information, which is an area of research related to assisted living. the ability to reliably sense the environment is a crucial aspect of this application area, which has, to date, been prone to error and poor data quality. therefore, it is essential that we are able to identify potentially anomalous data before it can have a serious effect in the application domain and evoke dangerous consequences. this work presents a novel Markov-based technique for detecting anomalous sensor events in constrained Internet of things environments. Results from the experiment found a recall score of 97.9% and an F-measure of 92.0%, which represents a promising step forward in this research direction.

Smart Farming is a development that emphasizes on the use of modern technologies in the cyber-physical field management cycle. Technologies such as the Internet of things (IoT) and Cloud computing have accelerated the digital transformation of the conventional agricultural practices promising increased production rate and product quality. the adoption of smart farming though is hampered because of the lack of models providing guidance to practitioners regarding the necessary components that constitute IoT based monitoring systems. To guide the process of designing and implementing Smart farming monitoring systems, in this paper we propose a generic reference architecture model, taking also into consideration a very important non-functional requirement, the energy consumption restriction. Moreover, we present and discuss the technologies that incorporate the four layers of the architecture model that are the sensor Layer, the Network Layer, the Service Layer and the Application Layer. A discussion is also conducted upon the challenges that smart farming monitoring systems face.

the engine is the key part of the armored car. the lubricating oil can reflect the health of the engine. In this paper, the oil sensor on-line real-Time monitoring technology is used to establish the fuzzy comprehensive evaluation model for the oil information of the engine by using the fuzzy theory. the real-Time diagnosis of the engine fault of armored vehicle is realized, which can ensure the safety and effectiveness of the engine, extend the service life of the engine, and greatly reduce the probability of accidents. © 2020 ieee.

A number of sensor network applications are envisioned to be applied to industry settings where the existence of mobile nodes (MN) is required. In critical applications, the real-time monitoring of a MN must always be available, something that requires the existence of a suitable mobility protocol to control the handoff procedure. In this paper, we use an industrial WSN setting to perform a comprehensive performance evaluation of different mobility handling solutions based on single- and multiple-metric options. the results show that Fuzzy Logic-based Mobility Controller (FLMC), the multiple-metric approach we used (based on Fuzzy Logic), performs better compared to any single metric-based approach under a varying set of conditions. More specifically, we demonstrate that the Fuzzy Logic -based approach can efficiently control the handoff triggering procedure and provide high reliability (low packet loss) under different mobility models, different radio propagation models, and different topologies.

In wireless communication, the need for frequency spectrum is rising day by day. the existing accessible frequency bands can be used in a fixed way by Wireless sensor Networks (WSNs). One needs the permission of the particular authority to use the frequency spectrum except for the industrial, scientific and medical(ISM) frequency channels of the spectrum. As the price of procuring permission for authorized spectrum usage is high, several researchers and manufacturers have paid attention to build-up gadgets for ISM frequency bands. Consequently, ISM frequency bands are congested resulting in the occurrence of coincidence problem and on the other hand many authorized frequency bands are either not used or used less leading to spectrum underutilization. To overcome the crisis, a new aspect must be included in Wireless sensor Networks (WSNs) to diminish the inefficiency of spectrum underutilization as well as intrusion incorporated by other uses. the answer to the problem of frequency spectrum underutilization is given by incorporating Cognitive Radio (CR) technology to WSNs towards supporting the wireless sensor nodes with the ability of Opportunistic Spectrum Access (OSA). OSA permits the usage of the suitable frequency spectrum band according to the requirements of the application by using the unexploited frequency spectrum opportunistically, permitting the unauthorized users to use several authorized frequency channels as CR has the capability to recognize the unused spectrum in the authorized and unauthorized frequency spectrum bands. the flexibility has been used to alter the transmission parameters each time when a new channel is selected and minimize power utilization. the reduction of power utilization through OSA does not merely expand the life-time of battery constrained wireless sensor nodes, besides restricts the power usage on the whole by the wireless sensor network. the CR users can sense the identical unoccupied frequency band resulting in the utilizati

Inertial sensor data collected from wearable smart devices such as smartwatches are expected to be used in various smart applications such as video game controllers, hand drawing, hand writing, gestural input devices, human activity recognition, and remote communication using sign language. However, since the maximum sampling rate of inertial sensors in commercial smartwatches is restricted, capturing fine-grained body movements using the low-sampled signals is difficult for these sensors. therefore, this study proposes a new method for generating high sampling rate signals from the low-sampled signals by upsampling the low-sampled signals using interpolation with an artificial neural network. Because it is impossible to obtain "non-existent" data from low-sampled signals according to the information theory, we estimate these data from experience, i.e., using high-sampled signals prepared in advance for training. this is possible because trajectories of a sensor are restricted by the skeletal structure of the body part to which the sensor is attached.

the process of photosynthesis implies the transformation of light into chemical energy in photosynthetic organisms. One of the procedures of utilizing the light reaching the plant leaf for chemical energy production is via the chlorophyll (CF) molecules that enable biochemical processes. Chlorophyll fluorescence measurement technique is used to assess the photosynthetic performance of plants and the main principle is based on light energy distribution. Although the plant physiological status is monitored and influenced with agricultural practices like crop rotation and fertilization, various deviations might happen in the agro-ecosphere. Fluorescence transient is monitored through different parameters like maximum fluorescence and different states of dark-adapted fluorescence are measured. Fluorescence is commonly measured using fluorometers like Pocket plant efficiency analyzer (PEA) and Handy PEA. Novel solutions include satellite observations and IoT solutions. Cost-efficient solutions based on a single sensor node provide less accuracy, while sensor networks acquire results comparable to reference data. this short review presents an overview of available sensors, methods and algorithms for measurements of chlorophyll fluorescence and identifies open issues and research directions for the future work.

Development of Internet and Internet of things (IoTs) has laid rapid advancement in the farming system and medical system. Various relevant data and signals are collected and monitored from these systems and then appropriate results are predicted that help to make agriculture more optimized and sustainable and healthcare more automated. In this paper, a low-cost, power efficient, Long-Range Wide-Area Network (LoRaWAN) based IoT platform is proposed where two LoRa end nodes are designed, one for collecting the parameters from agricultural fields and another for monitoring body temperature and pulse rate. the readings from these two nodes are then communicated to a single gateway which are then forwarded to Network Server. the collected data can be visualised on a web-based dashboard on a daily basis. the main aim of this proposed platform is to help the people living in rural and hilly areas in monitoring their farm and health on a single dashboard regularly. © 2020 ieee.

In this work we analyze the security requirements and challenges of e-Health Internet of things (IoT) applications and propose a complete architecture to address them. this architecture combines VICINITY IoT Framework security features together with General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) compliant mechanisms in order to provide secure e-Health services to elders and middle-aged people. We also demonstrate how an Ambient Assisted Living (AAL) and an mHealth application were designed and implemented, addressing the current security and privacy requirements.

Monitoring ambient air temperature is one of the important operations to ensure resilience and efficiency in large-scale data centers. However, deployment of a data center monitoring system requires recording the location of thousands of sensors which is a labor-intensive task if is done manually. Since Radio-Frequency (RF) based localization solutions in literature are inadequate in the multipath rich environment of data centers, we investigated the possibility of utilizing the measurements of the sensors in localizing themselves. the idea of thermal piloting is to correlate sensor measurements with the expected temperature values at their locations. It can be treated as a classification problem, in which the feature vector is formed by the temperature values at each sensor location across different cooling configurations. the training set is provided by Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD) simulations. Since classical supervised learning techniques fail to account for the bijective relation between sensor indices and locations, we formulated an extra step based on the Maximum Weighted Bi-partite Matching (MWBM) problem. Experimental results show that the proposed methods can achieve an average localization error of 0.64 meters.
